Is VIP style going the way of hoodride?

Yes I said it. And I think a few people here are wondering the same thing. When I took a break from VSC 2-3 years ago I found hoodride (the forum before it closed) I was obsessed with it. I paid a dude a $350 deposit for him to keep his beetle next to his barn and i'd pick it up after a good rusty winter. But then, I started noticing that the same things that pushed me away from VSC at the time was happening. The OG's hatin on the new guys, the new guys trying to do dumb shit and diluting the style. Then before it got popular (and way before it could get mainstream) the head guy was like "fuck it" and closed the forums. It stuck around in the VW forums a little bit but about as much as boso VIP builds when you look at the ratios of hoodride to modded VW's. One could easily draw parallels between the people who wanted to paint fake rust on the cars and the nonplatform (and I mean FAAAAAR from platform) knockoff builds on here. Well not so much on here but on other sites with less (real) VIP guys that can defend VIP when someone posts their 1994 ford escort VIP build.

Now i've been around a while (you can find my old handle on page 4 of the member list IIRC) and i've noticed a serious drop in builds in the last 6 months. I understand the economy is shitty and whatnot but isn't this style supposed to be for ballers? Did the knock off plague kill everyones mod boner? Did everybody see agi's Q and give up?? Seriously what happened?! The board is getting ghost town status and it is bumming me out. People were FINALLY getting what VIP style is all about then all the builds stopped! I understand what is like to be broke and not be able to build your car. I went through 3 VIP platforms before I even had the cash to but some wheels and a drop on one of them.

I'm just trying to see whats up. It seems like activity and builds are as low as the cars on here. We succeeded in not having VIP blow up and become mainstream, we succeeded (for the most part) in educating people on what VIP style is, and we've got our people all over the web defending the style, so why stop now??

I've notice not many people on as well, but I'm just thinking its cause of the Christmas season. I myself don't have a platform car, however I'm hoping around May-June of next year 2009 I'll have a LS 400. But ya I think for d most part all the cookie cutters are slowing down especially wit d introduction of the VIP 101 section. Honestly though I don't think it's going to end up like hoodride did.

Much Respect.

Be Blessed.

I haven't quit. Still working on the Protege, trying to get the 240 back on its feet, and I've got another car for spring.

I don't have a garage heater, so work is at a stand still, which means no new updates.

Lots of people just don't like doing buildup threads, its not their style. Thats fine but buildup threads keep message forums going. I can't speak for all but I know my region is going to put out some really sick VIP cars in the next 4-6 months, atleast 6-10 cars easily.

I agree with the idea that there are members who have sick builds but dont advertise. Here in socal i know of a few ucf10/20s that are beautiful and rarely post, just ghost the forum. Even some members who just dont do updates anymore on here. But i bet in the year to come people will post their end results and it be viewed as out of no where when in fact the local vsc friends or close friends will be seeing the build from the get go...

^^ Truth. Just because we don't see what everyone is doing doesn't mean that shiz isn't getting worked on. Every time I see meet pictures I see people doing new things. Plus like 5 members are working on getting oversized wheels to 'fit' on their rides as we speak. As people push the bar father and farther it takes more and more time. No more just putting on a body kit and rims... but actually fabing stuff up to make it work.

I think season has ALOT to do with it. Anyone not in Socal or warmer climates are locking up there cars for the winter or not adding on. If you dont add on, there's not too many reasons to take pics so it seems dead. When it's -10 below actual temp, you REALLY dont wanna be working on a car in that weather. I chalk a majority of this to weather. The OGs are still with it and theres tons of noobs still wanting to do it and learn about it.

Winter means I bring my "fast car" in the garage and drop all my money into it for next season. So I don't plan on buying anything for my Infiniti till the snow goes away.

I have to agree with Agi in regards to NYC area. NYC region hasn't really been on the map in regards to VIP but hopefully for '09 this will change.

Dang this thread blew up in one day. Good i'm glad to hear everyone is busy working. I was getting a little worried. I'd hate to finish all this work and have no one see what I made ;) When its this cold out theres nothing to do so its the prime time to work on cars! I figured this was the time when everyone would be building stuff so i'm glad to hear thats the case. I guess I just didn't remember it getting THIS quiet in years past.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but everytime I finish an aspect of my car(s) I come up with 2 more ideas of sweet things to do. So 2 months of interior work and 2 months of body turned into 3 months of interior with another months worth of work ahead!

I've got some stuff coming,....just taking forever to get here. Our numbers are very small and basically we are a cult group. Some here are more willing to show off their rides while others do it occassionally. I like it like this....nice and slow. I really don't want other VIP styled cars rolling around everywhere like how I see Subarus and Evos...and they ALL look the same. Therefore very boring and uninteresting to look at.

LOL @ the Hoodride reference. Dope Beat Derrik was a fuckn tool. Sorry for cussing but I cant think of a better way to dicribe that little poser. Hoodride is dead, good riddens. Build something nice now. Rust in not a crime but driving a POS and pretending its anything but that is... Or at least should be.

Tx is coming all out for '09. we try to keep things on the DL but there's gonna be some new mods and new builds coming out. People haven't been posting up builds since it takes time and money to do it right.

2009 will be an interesting year for me as well. Plus I don't bump up my build thread unless it's installed. Heh.

The roads do not help at all. I'm gonna videotape some of the roads up here and do a thread on it ... LMAO.

I think the east coast is gonna do it big this summer . Rite now its just too damn cold . I have a bunch of stuff I ordered for my car , but I dont get a chance to do anything because the garage I keep my car in is about a mile from my home and too small to do any kind of work . My garage is so small I have to climb out of the sunroof to get out :smiley-rofl:.
