advisory: snow chains

with certain snow chain types, remember to mask your lips before installing the chains.

i forgot and my rims got scratched up pretty nice.

p.s. if you are heading up to bear mountain this week.chains ARE NEEDED(reports may say chains aren't required on the 330/18 but you WILL NEED it for big bear ave), but chains arent necessary till the end of HWY 18. 330 definately doesnt need it. (and this was through heavy conditions.)

Why would you roll there on your nice wheels? I'd throw the stocks back on. I wouldn't even take my car. Haha.

I know a thing or two about snow and ice. And one of those things is I've never seen anybody use snow chains ever in my life.

I've seen a few with chains here in Victoria this past week. Often we barely get a week of snow a year so its not worth buying snow tires. Because of the lack of snow we are always unprepared for it ie lack of snow plows.

I was going to borrow some chains and put them on my stock 17" wheels on my F50 but they were for 14-16" wheels.

the reason the guy from winnipeg has not seen them is because it is flat there... out here in the mountains some people put them on for the final stretch of the road to the ski hill

this is how my car is sitting right now haha

So how are V8 RWD cars on chains? My Q is an epic FAIL on snow. Cant even get it up my driveway when there is a few inches of powder on the ground. I have to admit though... i have shit tires.

Im sure no one uses chains in places where is snow tires are required. We So cal people arnt use to the snow fall and when CHP says chains required we have no choice. I ran my Subi up to Mammoth and had no chains and no snow tires and it was fine with just all season tires. But to this thread next time use your stock wheels if you going to put chains =)

Man I have been all over the mid west and even in the foot hills and plains often you will need chains.

I hated FWD in the snow, I never had any luck with anything FWD in the snow, RWD and good snow tires FTW.
Except for those occasions when they tell you that you must have snow tires I would just get a good set of cheap ass wheels and a good set of snow tires with spikes. I would just stay away from those spots that say you must have chains.

I gotta see these pics. I bet they aren't as bad as my last set. All we get is ice and slush here!
