y33 owners with z32 brake upgrade, Clearance Q!!
To those who have run z32 brakes on their Q, what kind of clearance is required to clear the wheels?? Are high disk BBK fitment wheels required up front?? Mid disk work?? Or can you run Low disk front and rear with the brakes??

My fronts are O disk Works (19x9 +20), and I needed 15mm spacers to clear. And that shit BARELY clears, like 1 14-point thick business card is all that fits between spokes and calipers. The calipers are about 1" wider to the outside than the stock ones, it's quite a lot. HTH

Awesome, I just want to get a general Idea when ordering new wheels, to see how much dish I can run up front. Because i really want to do this brake upgrade.

I like this brake upgrade, but I put the Sumitomo pads on and they suck. Soon as the shims arrive, I'm putting the Axxis Deluxe back on, they had way more bite, but squealed w/o shims.

-5 high disk fit nicely and i believe you said we have the exact same fitment unless you are changing up

Wheels are for sale, trying to decide on new wheels and if brakes are going to be visible, Hi disk will have to be ordered again.

Yeah, that's what I'm running (factory pads are Sumitomo, same MFG as the calipers) and they do indeed suck.

i don't have a problem with dust or squeal what part number are you using?

I don't have a problem with dust and the squeal is only because I don't have the shims in there. The only area I think they suck in terms of is stopping power. The Axxis Deluxe stopped much better.
Got a link to a bigger version of the pic in your sig?? :D

I want to go BBK but when I do I'm jus gonna bite the bullet but compensate by running a step lip wheel!

Yo J, you're running the Axxis Deluxe pads.
I have 3 sets of pads, Axxis Ultimate, Deluxe and Sumitomo OE. The Axxis Deluxe are the best for us IMO. The Ultimates are insanely powerful, but SUPER dusty, they're really more of a track pad than a daily street pad. The Deluxe are the perfect balance of power and low dusting. I'm going to put the Deluxe back on very soon, prolly next week.

I think alot of these questions are general and here is why.
when doing 300z or skyline brakes there are a whole mess of options.
1)are you just redrilling the mounting wholes and using the stock rotors w/ Z or skyline calipers?. you will then have the same clearance issues as a 300z in terms of rims to caliper space ( no problem)
2) are you trying to go even bigger and do the 350Z track rotors with Z/skyline calipers? if so you will be using a bracket to push out (up) the calipers and which bracket you use will determine your clearance. most brackets are front mount but there is one that mounts to the rear of the caliper mounting tabs and therfore does not push the caliper out any further than the stock 300z size. The others do. how far they push the caliper out will determine your clearance over and above the 300z clearance
3) if you are running the Z/skyline calipers with the STi or VR6 rotors the brackets move the caliper forward and you will have less clearance than the stock 300z sizes as well.
In both 2&3 the actual bracket used will change the clearance slightly.
I am looking into alternatives as we speak since I am trying to not only do Skyline calipers but also Y32 coilovers... Having some issues with rotor size and fitting the rotor to the center of the caliper. G/L people hope this helps a little.

BURGY!!!!!!! I did another set of y32 coils and we came to the conclusion that to get the minimum clearance you need to shave exactly 2.5mm for Z calipers and pads (28mm).
Good luck bro

Thanks, did you have to do anything to the rotors or the caliper itself? or just the mounting tabs and then use the stoc Y33 rotors?? Thanks again though.

nope just the spindle ears for caliper mounts and use stock y33 rotors!

Did my R32 GTS-T calipers in front and 300zx in rear with Stainless lines all around!

Light surface rust from todays rain.

rears
Ignore the ride height for now....will be going much lower later.
