where and when

I would like to know when exactly was the style started because to me cars like the lexus gs, sc, ls, infinity q45, acura ledgend, RL, honda accord have been rocking low offset and deep dish wheels like the bbs RS and MAE dishes since the late 80,s in my state and I have always been into the look it just seems funny to me that this is a style now but I am confused a lil cause what is called VIP/ bippu has been to me what you do to the bigger rwd japanese cars. Hell most of my cars vip platform or not, rwd or not have all ways been slammed on wheels with some kind of lip. Now of course since I couldnt afford those kind of cars in high school and only most of the drug dealers or people with good jobs were the only ones who could I am trying to do  a car like that now cause they are cheap now but I would just like to know when did it start cause I know its not like older people and the drug dealers where copying the vip style from japan or like the internet was popular like that then, and there deffinatly were no magazines for imports like that then.  But I will say that it still could have been copied from japan but I am almost sure it wasnt.  So what I guess I should as is anybody know why cars that would be considered VIP have been popping up for so long and why is it so popular now???

doing a little research i've seen it back to the mid-90s. i don't think anyone has the 100% answer on when but the where is japan. and yeah... if you look at the similarities damn near every style of modification shares one or two characteristics (rwd v8; muslecar, poke and stretch; euro; slammed with huge reverse lips; lowrider, etc.). it's the combination of things that makes it unique and, in all honesety, even then it's not completely different than everything else.

There is so much to the style that it is difficult to grasp all at once.  I would say it takes most people a year to get a feel for it and about 2-3 to really understand it.
 
Slamming a car on nice fitting expensive wheels are just the basics.  There is so much that most people don't notice but those details effects the overall feel of the car.

True but the basics are what im talking about cause other that some of the inside modification's, airbag setup's and the ultra fine attension to detail, I dont see that much of a difference, well at least not to define a certain way you costumize your car as a official style, or at least not to say VIP is new cause its not to me in a sence. The best platforms to start with are not even new cars with the exeption of the few models that still carry names from the late 80,s early 90's, Im not hating or complaining or nuffin Im just tring to figure out why something that I have been seeing people doing to there cars for close 20 years now is all of a sudden the "NEW" style now.  Is this what people mean when they say whats old is new???.  But I can admit that the approach and the source for parts and where and how easy you can get them has evolved for the better.  And I am looking foward to seeing where it will go in the future

where'd you get "new style" from? just cause it's new to [I]you[/I] (us) doesn't mean it's new. trying to downplay the style just because you've seen something similar before is a waste of time and effort. i'm sure the originators saw the same cars you did in the 80's and 90's, but vip is what it evolved into.

No you got what I am asking or saying all wrong, now for an example on other websites and different forums and in some magizines the VIP, "BIPPU" (which I know buy saying is like a slap in the face, is always said or interpreted as new new craze from japan, and all Im saying is that I am sure its nothing new in japan, or hear for that matter I am tring to figure out WHY this is so, which is why I asked the question of where and when, and I figured that somebody on here would have a answer as to the when more that the where. I am here because of the love I have for the cars I like, which I dont see by asking me why im hear helps to getting a answer, if there is even one. In all honesty it starting to just piss me of that everytime somebody does something to there car that everybody else seems not to be doing then its NEW and a "NEW" trend starts. Like for example at import car show its a class in the judging and it wasnt 5-10 years ago hear even though the cars, wheels, modifications, bodykits etc... etc... have been around alot longer than that. I was just thinking that there would have been a guy on hear maybey from japan that lives hear now that would have had some sort of answer, or would have at least been like, (I have been trying to figure out why it got big all a sudden to) which is my point really. And not once did I say "your style is nothing special" so I am kinda confused as to why you took it that way?????

you can definitely see the progression starting back in the mid 90's. it's nothing new, it's just popular right now and it's nothing that we decided was a style. that happened on the other side of the earth. so you may have seen cars in your hood that looked similar but the orginators weren't in your hood.

hey one of the links on there has one to many muscle cars on it like the purple dodge but its funny because we would love to have some true jdm rides and the obviously like american cars I wish there was a way we could do some trades with them lol

i don't really know that guy's story as i found the link just surfin the web. seems like he's just an all around car enthusiast. those k-break 1/2 are my favorite galleries, just because the biggest vip event in japan now.

VIP wheel fitments remind me of the 80's mini truckin scene. the deep dish wheels and stretched out tires. looked good then!

Look at Yankee car style from the 80's (and as far back as the late 70's!) and you'll get an idea of where some of the influence came from..that branched into something completely different...then changed again, and again, and again.  But...the are all just eras of style.  It's easy to confuse and it's easy to assume.  I actually tire of explaining it to people, and many of them refuse to listen or fathom that the style is actually pretty old and stems pretty far back...

A couple cars on there have some heavy metal flake paint jobs like you would find on a carnival ride or some dudes fishing boat but look suprisingly good on a car, those kind of paint jobs look something like you would see on a costume van from the 70's, overall it old school pimpin at its purest
