The Fast has spoken...twice in one year

Had a get together yesterday, which turned into a 40 mile drive to museum of glass. There were 4 cars total. Long story short:
Two dumb asses up front started driving like crazy, cutting people off, etc. Instead of doing the smart thing and driving with the traffic, I began driving faster to keep up with them, same thing with the 4th car. Someone called cops because they got cut off. Unmarked cop claimed he was trying to pace us for 4 miles and couldn't get a clear reading, but knew for sue we were going above 80mph. All 4 of us got pulled over by him and a state trooper. One car that was cutting people off got a warning, the rest of us got 20mph over speeding tickets. Blows that I made the same mistake again in less than 1 year. Last time I got pulled over it was for 96 in a 60.

I know that this is my fault 100%, I can make my own decisions...this is the same as me jumping off the bridge just because all my friends are doing it. But this is also getting me to think that maybe I should get a different car thats more "chill". Right now the GTI feels at home going 70mph or more. At 60 it feels like I'm going 30. I remember when I had the Q, I barely exceeded the speed limit. What are some cars that will be fun to drive, but at the same time more "grown up". 

I really like the Range Rover and can get the supercharged one for a super great deal with 22s already installed. But its still a Land Rover and reliability as well as gas mileage sucks. I don't want a super big body car either...Q45 was too big. I'm interested in 335 BMW, but that car is even faster than a GTI. Maybe an A4 station wagon? I want to keep the price tag under 30K. Also the next car will have minimum mods on it. If its an A4, it will have wheels and springs...thats it.

So what do you think? What cars should I look at? No American cars and I prefer German...but not excluding Japanese at this moment.

We were not racing anyone. I didn't even cut anyone off. But the description given to police was "4 identical cars speeding and cutting everybody off". I do drive faster than I should be, but never push the car or myself beyond safe limits. I'm not one of those people who takes their car through 25mph corner going 80. I admit to being a dumb ass and driving at speeds I should not have been driving. This thread is not about that. I am asking for ideas on cars. Specifically cars that are nice inside and out, a bit more grown up, that are still fun to drive. The GTI is fun, but in a different way...it trully does belong on an autobahn. Reason why I am bringing up a Range Rover is because it's nice inside and out, but more of a cruiser than a speed rocket. Also because the one I have in mind is a killer deal: '06 or '07, Supercharged, every single option available, 22" 3-piece wheels for $38K...which is more than what I want to spend...but should be able to afford. I don't like any of the MB cars, so thats out of the question. From German cars I do like Audi and BMW. Japanese...Infiniti and Lexus. This doesn't leave me with many choices.

If I were to pick 1 brand new car right now, I think it would be a VW Eos.

For you, it would be fun, you get the benefit of open-air motoring, but you still have mid-class luxury, and it's not too sporty, so you shouldn't be too tempted to horse around with it.

Seriously for 38k you could get a Genesis....brand new with a 10 year warranty, and cheaper than your typical Lexus! (lol remember those commercials? just like your blah blah blah but 10k cheaper!)

I do like the Eos, but so far I've seen grandmas drive it and that's about it. Also I doubt i'd get a VW again. Kinda want to move up a little bit. That's why I'm considering the Audi...although a new Passat wagon looks good.
Genesis...no way. 10 year warranty or not, I will not drive that thing. 
I may go and test drive a 335 coupe and see how that car feels. Also I like the look of G37s. 

I guess the cheapest thing to do is slow down and maybe do what I planned from the beginning...do some track days on GTI. That way I get the thrill of fast driving without a ticket.

The car and auto manufacturer has no character whatsoever. The car won't age well and will look dated in one year. Why would I want that? At least if you look at Lexus from 2001, it still looks great...and if you didn't know better, would think its a 2009 model. German manufacturers always stick to their tradition. Look at Audi...A3, A4, TT, R8, RS4, etc....they all have something in common that ties them to the same manufacturer. BMW has kidney grilles dating back to when BMW got started. Now look at Hyundai....they take whatever little bits they like about other manufacturers and use it on their cars...so you end up with 10% Lexus, 30% Honda, 5% BMW, etc. If I'm going to spend money on a car, I'd rather get one thats a few years older than Genesis, but is better quality (not just mechanical, but finish, etc.), and joy to drive.

I think I am pretty sure the cars I want to test drive are as follows:
335i coupe, 645Ci (as long as its certified to 100K miles), A4 Avant (S4 if I can afford it), G35/37 coupe.

No point in looking for another car if the driver has no self control. Learn to control yourself first and enjoy what you have now instead of going to a much bigger car that can go faster than your smaller one.  
 
The Audis and BMW's you want to test drive are definitely faster than your GTi.

Wow Vince! It's been ages. I know self control goes a long way. I am usually fine, but at times I really want to push the car. Maybe doing track/lapping day is a good way to go.

^ Or just burn down a J when you drive. Guaran-god-damned-teed you won't be doing anything other then the speed limit and driving in a perfectly straight line. Plus you'll be the only person actually making the 3 second stops at stop signs. Self imposed control and fast food delicousium enhancer.

haha well my car is a 2 door minivan! kind of...We have to get the old crew together and catch up. Maybe sometime next weekend?

I stopped going to those VW gtg's because there were too many guys driving like idiots and I don't want to get pulled over because somebody else's mistakes. 

But I understand what you are talking about too. I'm mainly going to use my Corrado as a track car, but I bought a Lexus GS400 that is still a blast to drive, but at the same time it is more grown-up and I don't feel like I have to speed around in it even though it is pretty fast.

I think it's pretty close...I raised up the back end because I kept on scraping on speed-bumps.
