I think I read somewhere that mcintosh was the japanese marketed name for alpine. Is this the case or is alpine the usdm name for mcintosh? Or are they 2 seperate entities?

mcintosh was owned by clarion for a while (when this hu was made) and is now owned by d&m holdings (boston acoustic, denon, etc.). they still operate independently and everything is hand made in new york, just part of a larger corporation.

When I saw this I went shopping for a Carozzeria since better ones than my current deck are cheap, but they all have menus in Japanese, which is pretty useless.

yeah... subaru legacy. it is based off the mx series aftermarket hu, and while it's not exactly the same it shares the key design features in a double din (+ tape deck) package.
