We'll see how this turns out. He promised, but can he deliver? That will decide his legacy. One who took on too much, or one who changed the world.

I still think he won't be a two term president, that he'll either tremendously fail, or he'll scrape by and start to fix the problems by the time his term is up, yet people will still see it as failing, because he didn't turn this country into another booming economy with money flowing out of everyone's ears.

The truth of the matter is that most people are setting the bar too high for him. It's monumental that he's been elected into office but we have to be realistic with the disaster that he's walking into to clean up and the possibility that it may take more than one term to fix. So he may get the ball rolling but it may not end with him... the clean up.

At least we have someone who actually has a brain compared to the idiot that has been in office for the past 8 years.

Set the bar too high? The man promised change, and all these dreams he was campaigning about...and if he didn't mean as much as he said, he still took that bar and threw it up there. He promised, and set the bar high himself. Like I previously said, he's going to be perceived as a failure because he won't deliver what the people want, which is back to when we had money shooting out of every pore, and infinite credit. Not gonna happen, and the man, is going to get blamed for it even though it's not really his fault.

^^I disagree with you (which has been pretty rare lately), I think we needed just that...HOPE. Bush screwed so much ish up that it'd be a hard job for anyone. I think he's giving us exactly what we needed. People look too far into things with politics...you do realize our world standing just went up even more...within minutes. When has that happened in the last few decades?

Mike and Grant, I agree with you both on the fact that he is who the majority wanted. I'm just skeptical on how much will really happen for the good, now that he's here. America wanted him, America got him, four years from now what will we think of him?

I do hope he turns this country around and looks more to 'his people' rather than the rest of the world for at least this four years.

That's all I had wanted anybody to do, whoever was elected. Focus here at home. You gotta fix your problems here at home, before you can go fix those other problems here in the world.

dunno what fire you are taling about?

Cao, dont get it twisted, i didnt, and dont think either one of the candidates woudl do anything that will benefit me in the long run. End of story. I didnt vote becuase neither one of the could even hold a speech when their teleprompters broke. and seriously, if they can not do that, in my eyes they can not run a country.

alot of the problems at home....are created by the people here to take advantage of the system. wanna fix problems at home? report hte people on welfare and other government programs that dont need to be. thats a start

He brought hope?? WTF??!?!? man hope in one hand and shit in the other, then tell me which one fills up first?? LOL!

No but seriously, we are watching history being made, I NEVER thought I would see a black president in MY lifetime. Its going to be interesting on how he handles things and does or does not actually make some change. I am waiting to see what happens next.

I love the people who believe the world just became better because he took the oath! hahahaha wake up everyone since tomorrow the issues will all still be here, our economy will still be stagnant, we will still be in Iraq, Guantanamo will still be open, and no one will know where Hoffa is or what really is in those Pinkberry drinks.

But on a separate note I wish the new President all the best and regardless of my views on politics, all hail our new Commander In Chief! That's what REAL Americans do.

Bush kept us safe. He didn't screw us. He did what the COMMANDER IN CHIEF is supposed to do...protect it's citizens.

Let's try to figure out the job of president... Barack went on in his speech today about his job, and that was all BS. He needs to figure out his main job function. IMO, that is to protect us from hostile nations. He is not supposed to give us health care, or bail out the banks, or any of that. Am i wrong here?!

This is so frustrating.

You guys know that it is all donated funds right? If you have 40 million people donate 4 dollars you've got your 160mil...

People THINK it's all tax payer money, just like people THINK he's going to give another rebate check. He's not.

It's a tax BREAK that, if it goes through, you will have less taxes taken out of your check. He has it planned the SMART way, pumping the economy by letting people keep more of their own money, rather than pushing money on them that they will end up paying back later. The other money that is going to the 'people' are tax breaks for smaller businesses, helping out everyone, and not bail out money just given to people. At least this time we don't get stuck with a trillion dollar deficit that we get to pay, when it didn't help us out one bit.

AND for that comment about stocks taking a dump and seeing it as his fault....wow. I can't believe people actually think that had ANYTHING to do with the stock market. Stock market took a big dump because BofA is taking on too big of a bite to chew, and is gambling that they will become a nationalized bank too big to be broken up, or they will be broken up and shit will hit the fan...something like that. NOT the president's inauguration, I have no idea why people honestly think that's going to ruin the economy.

That's like saying St. Patrick's day is going to make the stock market take a dump because people are going to be drinking and partying.

I am a Bush supporter. I was never a McCain supporter. I just voted for him to keep Obama out.

I am serious, why wouldn't I be? What is Obama going to bring to us? He's already halted Gitmo trials. Why would he do that? He's going to close the prison and bring the prisoners stateside. Why would the gov't want to do that? It's an Obama administration, I blame HIM for all the consequences of their actions.

What "gift" are you talking about btw? Let's see how much Obama decides to spend on his "projects" (more like paybacks).

It's not as easy as you think...there are people...millions of people that will not give up 4 bucks. However, they'll do all they can to keep the gov't from taking 4 bucks from them. Then there are the people that expect the gov't to give them the 4 bucks for free.

I think you misinterpreted Phrost's statement. He was saying the stock market took a shit, but I'm sure he wasn't saying it was because of $ spent on the inauguration. I am not well informed on the stock market so I won't try to speculate on why it went south yesterday. Perhaps coincidence...I don't know.

Either way, to add to phrost's point....the media refused to air the cost of the inauguration. Like there was a secret pact to not say how much it cost after it slammed Bush in 2004 for his $40mil "party". ref - http://newsbusters.org/blogs/rich-noyes/2009/01/14/ap-slammed-bush-s-extravagant-inaugural-05-now-it-s-spend-baby-spend

I think conservatives or citizens that do not believe in Obama ideals just find frustration in the ass backwardness of how people feel about a president based on emotion or skin color as opposed to the "content of their character" (who said that?) America is ready for a new president, but can this one pull off the hope and change he preaches?

Chris

Your right I was just responding to viptintglass' post, no way was I saying Obama led to the stock market dipping yesterday, just said it didnt suprise me. Just thought it was amazing how if Bush spent 160mil on a party, the people would want him burnt at the stake, but obama, no problem..the media is the reason he got elected in the first place, still til this day I have not heard a bad work spoken about him on TV, ever.. Anything dumb or bad hes ever done has just been swept under the carpet out of the publics eye, basically all disregarded. guy is more of a wannbe moviestar/superstar then president.

If he is really just a moviestar/ superstar then we will really see what he is made of now. And judge him accordingly. However, if you look at the media's reaction to him during his campaign, you're right, they didn't say bad things. But, many lend that to the fact that he ran a seamless campaign. In this day and age, that is very rare. If you look at the books he has written, the people his is surrounding himself with, and the goals he is laying out for his 4 year term, I think that we have a very gifted, and intelligent individual serving as our 44th President.

Many of you have said that he is our Commander and Chief, and that his job is to make sure the country is safe. While I agree with those statements, I think he also serves an almost greater role; the spokesman (and figure head) of our nation. And in that regard, I can't wait for him to meet with foreign ambassadors, and heads of state. His wit, calming demeanor, and overall level of intelligence is really going to (IMO) boost the respect that America receives from not only our allies, but also our enemies.

In the end, he is not going to be able change everything, at home or abroad. But I hope that he works with congress in a progressive way to not only solve the problems we are facing, but also to introduce new ideas to the process of government. This is our country, as a collective whole, and we (all of us) are responsible for the changes that need to be made.

Some of the right wingers at work here yesterday complained about the 150mil inauguration. So here was my reply to them:

150 million is 1/6,000th of the amount the govt. gave to the financial bailout. That's equivalent to having 6,000 in your bank and spending ONE dollar of it. In another way of viewing it, that's 6,000 presidential inaugurations at 150 million each to equal the sum given to corporations last year alone. By the time they would equal the financial bailout in inauguration spending, it will be the year 4,409. That's right, 2,400 years later we'd finally match the money given to corporations last year.

150mil is nothing in terms of a nation like the USA.

My point and many's point is not the money spent... but the lack of negative press it had vs. what Bush had. Double standard and no fair shakes is what we are griping about.

we have double standards all the time. Think back to the 2000 election, with Gore "inventing the internet." :saiyancrunks: It happens all the time. I think the media let this spending spree slip because Obama is the first black president. Double standards? Sure, I'll give you that, but how long are you going to dwell on it. There are more productive ways to talk about politics than talk about what the media is doing.

Is everything that people say going to be compared to W? I remember a few years ago, ya know after 9/11 when you couldn't talk out against either of the two wars without being called un-American and un-Patriotic. This is the way the media operates man. Other than that, I am not really sure how your comment relates to the other points I raised.

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I am not going to get in an internet shouting match.

Either way I am happy with the changes he has already made.

You realize that the money for the inaugration is not taxpayer money but donations right?

Obama is only on his 1st day in office and he's been working busting his ass already. Bush, what did he do? Went on fucking vacation for most of the year.

Hilary Clinton wasn't in the Clinton administration other than as 1st lady. Bill Clinton isn't in the Obama adminisstration. So yes, her new role IS a change. LOL....

I think we can realistically say Obama has done more work in his 1st day in office than Bush would do in weeks or months. Any sign of trouble and he'd run off to his ranch in Texas.

guess it depends on where you fall politically... for me, I think the closing of the Prison camp is a good thing. I for one am not in support of the Military Commissions Act and other stigmas that have been associated with the camp i.e. torture, holding prisoners without just cause etc. I think that Obama made a wise decision by asking for a 120 day hold to review the prison and the methods in practice there.

Bush is not responsible for economic crisis. It was on his watch but look to Barney Frank the faggot to lay blame. Bush warned about too lenient lending. He was shot down by Barney Frank and was told they needed to lend to all these people that couldn't afford homes.

It was on Bush's watch, so of course he takes the blame. But he shouldn't be the only one. I think it was Congress' gift to us...another handout or lack of oversight or trying to make everyone like them type of gift.

^^then don't be a hypocrite next time and go blaming Obama for anything that happens on HIS watch. When I said the "gift", I meant a lot of things..in other words, it meant to take your pick. I can't believe that some of you got his back so hard, yet, what did he really do for you that makes you so loyal? He pulled the wool over so many eyes it's not even funny, so many naive people. You'd then turn around and say I'm naive for wanting Obama in office..but why? I made my decision to vote for him based on what I was presented and HOW it was presented. In intelligent complete sentences. Hell, Bush can't even do that and there's no way for you to tell me otherwise. And VP Biden..that guy is awesome...he can shoot from the hip with the best of them. What can you tell me about Cheney other than that he has bad aim? Ok, low blow..but seriously? I'm not intending to blame Obama for everything ... just some things... haha. All kidding aside. I just do not share his ideals. I'm not a hard core Bush backer, but his ideals align more with mine. Nothing wrong with new blood, but we still have to lookout for what gov't is doing so we dont' get the wool pulled over our eyes...again?
We NEEDED new blood, younger blood...this old school politics crap just wasn't working in the new world...
I agree, the government needs to be accountable. Just watch what goes down in the first 100 days...I think we'll all be surprised.

first image of Bush and binoculars: It's silly, but really...what binoculars have caps on them? Military ones i guess...
[edit] Those are night vision goggles. They are capped to prevent the lens from burning out. There is a pinhole on the cap to look through to get a sense of how they work at night. He is/was using them properly.[/edit]

second image of Bush reading upside down book: Photoshopped ref: http://www.snopes.com/photos/politics/bushbook.asp

I didn't bother commenting on the other stuff. I'm not a Bush lover but he has done a lot of good that will probably come out in the years to come. I am also pointing out fallacies that people put on the internet to perpetuate a belief that often isn't true.

he has done a lot of good...
Seriously, I just fell out of my chair. That was a good one. And no, there aren't pinholes in those binoculars, they're caps. Why the fuck would you use "night vision" binoculars in the middle of the day anyhow?

And if you want to get technical, the US Flag on his sleeve is going the WRONG direction. All military uniforms have the stars facing forward, (closest to your heart), it's a requirement on military uniforms. And he appears to be wearing a military styled flight jacket.

You don't think his contributions to Africa were good? $1.4mil initially, then tripling that. Then trying to push to $9mil. ref: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/30/AR2006123000941.html

I would have brought up something domestic, but I know many people want to see the good that we did for other people besides ourselves.

In regards to "Why the fuck would you use "night vision" binoculars in the middle of the day anyhow?"
FACT: The pinhole in the lens cap allows you to test the scope in daylight conditions.

ref: http://www.bushnell.com/customer_service/manuals/nightivision/26-3652_Night_Vision.pdf

About that military flight jacket...

FACT:
Wearing a Flag patch on a jacket.

Only members of the military, firefighters, police officers, or patriotic organizations may
wear a Flag patch on their uniform. Use of a Flag patch on costumes, athletic clothing,
or casual wear is inappropriate. To wear our country's flag properly, the field of stars is
worn closest to your heart. Further, when worn on the sleeve of a military uniform, the
flag should appear to be advancing and not retreating. Thus, if your patch is to be worn
on your LEFT sleeve, use a left flag (normal). For patches worn on your RIGHT sleeve,
use a "right" or "reversed field" flag.
ref: http://www.vfw3893.org/flag.htm

So he's got the wrong patch on it. You win! Bush is a complete jackass.

Chris...is there Bush stock or something I'm missing here?

BTW..I posted that as a complete joke...and those are not NVG's per say.

Although they can be outfitted to be such, but would have extended scopes:
Forum image

...they are gyro-stabilized binoculars. I used to use them (those actual ones above) on almost every daytime flight for maritime interdiction ops. I did have a gyro-nvg scope on my .50cal though, but it looked NOTHING like that. The NVG's we used we helmet mounted since I flew in SH-60's. So you're right...and wrong (they are most positively caps)

But just relax man...we have a lot of reasons to laugh at Bush and you really can't deny well...most of them. He's out of office, he's history, he's the past. So like other things in the past, lets not dwell on him...

Nah no stock. There is just so much BS floating around not just political. It always upsets me when people on forums just talk with nothing to back up their statements. I'm a person that believes things based on fact, I don't listen to (or try not to) listen to hearsay. So of course when people post things, I always have to get to the bottom of it, regardless of what it is. I know it's a forum, I know I should relax. But if someone doesn't point out fact ... then we'll go around like sheeple.

BTW...thanks for clarification on the binoculars. Thanks for your service also. Much respect.

the thing about the inauguration that kills me is that there were SOOOO many black people there and they have NEVER been there before. So they never cared about the person running their country until now??? And you wonder why it took so long to get a black president....

I hope that he does well and can change a few things. Few people remember that Bush had one of the Highest approval ratings of all time during one point in his administration. Its not where you start its how you end. I hope he ends even stronger than he begins!
