alright so i finally got a ticket.

pulled over in San Jose for code: 24002(a)VC Unsafe vehicle condition

reasons: 
* wheels stick out 6 inches from vehicle side (which is not true. its like like 3 or 4 inches. or maybe 5)
* incorrect wheels for vehicle
* incorrect tire size for wheels

the cop was being nice and let me drive home instead of a tow. hahaha. i was less then a mile away from home. 

haha. so anyone have experience with this kind of ticket??! something i can possible fight? or what price range i am looking at?

WTF!! I have never heard of that. You should have asked him what wheels and tire size he recommends. =) If he can't answer that, then he can't make that type of decision. Did he actually write down your tire specs on the ticket? I bet its one of Rosetti's students. =p

thats all the ticket says. the reason and the code i was written up for.

i am wondering if there is a way to prove its "maybe" safe... i was gonna show the cop that the tires don't rub by dumping the air suspension but i didnt wanna get a ticket for that too... haha

Yeah I wouldn't do that. Anyways, I would see what the ticket fee and if its worth it or not to fight it. I would also research and find out what is considered a "Vehicle Not Equipped or Unsafe." Ask some questions on this forum. Good luck. PM Sent!

haha yup. Last I heard he was teaching local PDs on how to spot cars from smoked taillights to wheels. But before that, I guess they took away his bike and put him on a truck stop along 680 due to complaints. But now hes back on the road. so yeah, GREAT! now we have little rosettis on the road.

definitely not a fix it. theres has to be a way out of it (no pictures taken, wheel/tires specs noted, etc).

Check your ticket, you may have to get it DOT inspected. That's a bitch, and you might have to return your car completely back to stock.

Sucks to hear. But as others have said your best bet would be to put the stock wheels on and fight it. They'll probably throw it out if its the first time you've gotten tickets like this.

Maybe he's 100% in the right, and you're hooped, but definitely try and find any wording that can bring the legitimacy of the ticket in question.

I quoted the California Vehicle Code, so that is what it says. If Shane wasn't so cool, he'd have not gotten a ticket for it.

I wouldn't mention anything about air suspension...that will definitely not pass DOT inspection.     After abit lets erase this thread so they (Cops) can't use this for research.

I wouldn't assume anything. I'm on a Hip-Hop forum and this dude posted about how he got in a car accident at work one day and had mentioned something about smoking weed or something earlier. The cops showed up at his door a couple days later with printouts of posts that he had already deleted. Turns out someone on the forum didn't like him and ratted him out.

All I'm saying is, who knows who's on here watching...

When you post something like that, what do you expect? You are posting on a public forum, you might as well go shout it out in the streets. It's not like this is a private message board.
 
I really don't think DOT is going to say anything if the car is fixed and in a stock condition.

When I had more camber up front (like -8* for a short period of time) I got pulled off of the highway and the cop was just yelling at me but I told him that I was on my way to the suspension shop to get it fixed and he calmed down.  From there he made me get off of the highway and ordered I get the car towed or else he would give me a ticket.  I just drove off on the side streets and got away.

ah i got the same shit about a year ago over by raging waters. it was for stretched tires. i was told it was a fix it ticket and just threw my stocks on. He was really cool about it tho. 

The feeling i got when the cop tried to run his finger between my fender and tire...mmmmmm

the part about tow is what bugs me. i could care less if they ticket me again, but tow is just lame.... when i drive in san jose how i hella watch for cops.. i havent had any problems in other cities... YET..... hhahaha 

But do you know if the COP tows my car away or do i just have to Tow it to my house or something?

They'll tow it to an impound yard. You pay the tow fees, impound fees, AND you can't get it out for like 1-2 days or some BS.

As far as the air suspension comments, if it's factory, it will be DOT compliant. If it's aftermarket, you gotta check with UAS, and if it is, I'd get some documents faxed saying it is just to cover myself. 

If it's just a fix it ticket, slap the stock wheels on, drive to a CHP office and get it written off.

i thought it was just a fix it ticket too. i got a window tint ticket it n it was just 10 bucks

ive heard its just illegal to adjust ride height while driving, or even at a stop light.  i dont think luxury bags or overload bags were meant to be adjusted on the fly.

i got asked about it by a cop once.  i said my lexus came with factory bags and i just upgraded the compressor and tank so i can adjust it more often for ride height.  he bought it.

They don't have to pop your trunk, unless you consent. 

LS430 bags (only ones that I know for sure) can be adjusted on the fly. Those things take like 10 minutes to go from high to full dump though.

BUT I think it can only be adjusted from 'normal' to 'sport' mode which automatically happens when you hit 60mph. 

For the data systems controller you have to be parked.

Land/Range Rovers can also, but that is not reall relevent to this. As they are SUV's.

I got a similar bullshit ticket from a bicycle cop in San Antonio.  Cop told me that my car was unsafe and a road hazard because of my air bags and how low the car is.

Sorry to hear this Shane hopefully you'll find a way around this...one thing about the midwest is our car laws arent half as strict the main reason is our coppers dont have a clue

I got a fix it ticket on my SC400 for the wheels sticking out as well (road block).  He was going to have it towed but I explained I was about a mile away from home and only had the wheels on for a car show.  

I got a fix it to put different wheels on or add fender flares.  I put some stock 350Z wheels on and took it to the station and they tore up the ticket.  

Here in BC Canada you are not allowed to have too much camber but I bet its rarely enforced. 

"The caster, camber or toe-in of a vehicle shall not be out of adjustment to the extent that it is apparent visually."

Hopefully your ticket won't be too expensive and you won't need an inspection.

We (808 peeps) have tried fighting this. There's just no way around it. Its called RECON here, reconstruction permit. Any modifications made to a vehicle hs to be reinspected to ensure it is safe. Over the yearas our recon law has calmed down, it used to be for every little thing from rims +/- 2" over stock, to exhaust, to altered suspension. Now its just altered suspension, lowered or lifted. Our car scene here is crazy and people don't give a f*ck about recon. I think the state makes a killing on tickets (money wise). Without it, I think our economy would fall apart. Cops are dicks here. If a cops stops you cuz your car is slammed, he'll also tag you for whatever he can. They say they don't have a monthly quota but everyone knows they do... there's ways to fight it but every state is different. Thank goodness we don't have smog here, but we all hate recon... its stupid too cuz our island (oahu) is the only one that has it. The outer islands, you can pretty much do whatever as long as your light horn and wipers work fine.... fight it....

i hate how obvious obnoxious lifted trucks can have wheels stick out a foot out the wheel well, but an import luxury car has some rims stickin out and gets pulled over.

DO NOT GO TO THE CHP. ive heard many stories where people go there to get things signed off since its free, but the inspector checks other stuff on the car and enforces those too.

i got the stick out the fender ticket in my truck. I have 15x12 with stock flares and i added mudflaps to it..but they tagged me anyways...my wheels stuck out about 4" from the body. they said they give out the tickets cause the exposed tires can pick up rocks or debris from the road and toss it onto oncoming traffic. which is probably a legit reason if youve ever had your windsheild smashed when a rock pops up from the floor in front of you. 
 
As for the unsafe tire size ..you can blame that ticket on the low riders out there. They are trying so hard to stretch cheapy tires on their 13x10 daytons and always have catastrophic failures on the roads. so thats where they made that rule up..not anything new...
 
recon in hawaii is the same as getting yout car "barred" in california..
 
be glad they didnt impound the car on site...
 
1. they would have found the air ride and bust you for more nonsense and charge you more fees 
2. if it got to the impound yard, once those monkeys have there way with it..youll for sure have some kind of body damage and pretty sure, missing parts unless you can bail it out within that day or the next day 
3. you alredy saved on the $300 impound/ towing fee and $100 a day storage fee...
 
put on the stocks and get it written off..not worth the hassle...

my friend got busted like how you did, too low and too wide with the bottom part of the wheels poking out like 4 inches. he tried to show that he had air and the height was adjustable and they thought the tanks had drugs until he showed they were fully operational. after they searched the whole car looking for drugs and came up empty they gave him recon and unsafe vehicle conditions tickets.(i guess they profiled him as a dealer)

he threw the stocks on with some spacers so they are flush looking and took a bunch of pictures and i think got off of everything clean. i hope yours works out like his did. 

honestly though you have to expect to get harassed with your wheels poking and cambered like that. 90% of people think the car is broken with that much camber. although the whole vip trend is getting big, a ton of people dont get it still and see extreme fitment and freak out. :shrug:

Man i got a ticket today :sad: 21453b, i stopped for a brief second before making my right now... I dont know if i should try to fight this or not. but i googled it up and it looks like its a fricken 300.00 fine!

alright. the ticket arrived in the mail. 
there are sections with box next to them for options available to resolve the problem. 
 
sections: 

1. proof of correction N/A

2. To pay you ticket (bail forfeiture) $288

3. Request Court Appearance $288

4. Traffic school  N/A


so it looks like its a straight fine. i only have option 2 and 3 available. it's going to be the same price if i pay the ticket or try to go to court. so i am probably going to go to court and have some fun.  :) 

first i will probably ask for a extension and pro long the ticket and then set a court date.  

i will try to get a cop to sign off the ticket first and see what happens. haha. man... paying $288 to drive to sj.. that's one expensive drive home.. could of bought a round trip to Las Vegas...

if u can get a cop to sign it off as fixed, the judge will  be more likely to give you a reduced fine or drop the ticket.

i hope if i can get it signed off... i can just pay $10 and say thank you to the clerk at the traffic court house. :)

When I got emission fix it ticket for my old 91 integra I got a fine for $750.  It was for speeding also.   Anyways went to court and just paid it without fixing it...Judge didn't say anything about fixing it...  I lucked out.    I would have had to change everything back to stock which would cost way more then $750.    

B16A motor fully built N/A.   Made a good amount of power out of a little 1.6L.

If it doesn't say you can get it signed off on the ticket, you can't...you can try, but most won't.
 
I've tried that one time, because I had no muffler on my CRX, and they told me I had to get the car State reff'd. Went to fight it in court, and luckily they sent the ticket to the wrong court room, at the wrong time, so neither the officer nor I showed up. 
 
Get it delayed, slap the stock wheels on, take pictures, try to get an officer to sign it off as proof it's corrected, even if it's just to show that it is corrected, and go to court and defend your case to have the fine reduced to a correction, And wear a suit to court. Appearances make or break your case as well as defending it. 
 
You might even get off easy with the officer realizing he meant it a correctable offense, and you not even having to fight it.

yeah same VC. i got a state ref ticket signed off by a cop before and paid $10. it was on my celica. :) but it was a cop i knew. so i think as long as a cop signs it... you're ok. but i will keep everyone updated.

yea i got state reffed on sunday, my way to wekfest. This asshole got me for modified emissions. I have an apex-i air "FILTER" not even a full intake system. And he got me for being too low(my car was full up) he tried to get me for the modified suspension cuz he seen my switch and valves but so called "let me off" and for white turn signals.
 
Can i fight to not go to state ref? Possibly get the taillights and stupid filter written off. Cuz i dont have the stock box. I thought the cone was legal. As long as it was not a full intake system.

You should not have popped your hood. You can't not go to the state ref, besides, it's just like smog, it's not a DMV inspection. Pop some bulbs in the tails, I'm sure there's a J-yard in SJ that has another box. Even Nico club (gasp) might have one...

the only thing you can do to not go to the ref is pay the fine, but they only allow you to do that once

thats bullshit the city i live in the cops dont care i had some hot pink headlights in my sc and the only thing that happened to me was cops either laughed or call me a bitch there was one that called me pretty other than that the cops here just dont care as long as you have working lights and wipers they dont even care about my horn not working

or you can get a a licence plate that say i support the police or when they do those charity runs .. 
i know people that get away with that out here in vegas maybe cali might be different
