Tire stretching

How does tire stretching work? is it just based on the rim itself?

Yeah it depends on how wide your rims are.  Say you have a 19x10 rim.  A decent tire side would be probably 275.  Instead of putting a 275, you'd drop it down to a 235 or something around that.

Don't worry.  I didn't know about the whole tire stretching thing until this past summer when I picked up my GS.

wide wheel + skinny tire = stretch

and just for the record, stretching is a tool for fitting aggressive offsets. it allows one to ride low on flush fitment by eliminating tire clearance issues.

if you don't need it don't bother.

same thing for camber.

Sooo I want to stretch my tires on my car because I want to ride low without scraping (like almost to the bottom of my bags) when I am on the interstate. I dont really have a flush fit... but when it does rub its on the outside lip.. I am runnin 20x9's up front and 20x10's in the back... would that be consided a good reason to stretch? Also when I am dropped to the ground I was told I would have more of a cambered look with the stretch. Is that tru? Thanks

basically, if you need the clearance of a stretch then run it. my post was a little too focused on outward fitment but the point i was trying to make is stretching is not so much a cosmetic thing as a tool for clearance (again, same with camber).

i personally will be running a tucked fitment with a stretch, due to my fender design and how i want my wheels to fit.

as far as the tuck giving the appearance of camber... :pat:

haha I understood and strecthed tires on my stupid ol Honda before I have on my Q.

That's pretty chubby.  I would do 225/40 fronts and 235/40 rears.

i dont get it man.. so u basicly streched the tyres to fit to the rim? then on the early video, 245 on 12", how come it seemed like it just popped?

It popped because the barrel design helped keep the tire lip sealed to keep air during it's unstretched state..  Then the guy probably pumped it up to 90-100psi and it popped into place.  It still stretched.

Some barrel designs have gaps between the tire lips which doesn't hold air when unstretched, so they need an sudden force of air.
