Re-Drilling wheel ????????
I was just wondering if re-drilling a set of wheels is safe, and is it worth doing. I'd also like to know If the wheels have to have center caps or can it be done on an exposed lug wheel as well. I'm asking this because I see a lot of wheels in the classified thread that I'd love to put on my bimmer but the lug pattern is different.
Thanks,

it depends on which size to what....like 5x112 to 114.3 is pretty close....5x112 to 5x120 i think not.......................................................................................

You can always get small adapters for the wheels, if the wheels have the appropriate space available between the lug holes.

Oooops I forgot to mention that. My lug pattern is 5x120 and the wheels would be 5x114.3
So the wheels would need to be drilled from 114.3 to 120
Thanks guys

I don't think it's possible. unless you use a spacer/adapter thingy

It's possible to do, but you'll need plugs welded into the original lug holes first.

but can the wheels have exposed lugs or will I only be able to drill wheels that have center caps?
Also is this even safe? Has anyone here done this?

I think an adapter is safer than redrilling. 5x112->5x114 is easier to get away with because it is only 2mm difference.

Well I've only had 1 set of adapters before, and they were so thick (like 1.5" inches) and that would mean that I'd have to go with a wheel that's not so agressive unless there are adapters out there that are not so thick. The adapters I had were on my Suzuki sidekick going from 5x5.5 to 5x114.3
Then I wound up with center bore issues, because although I didn't have 4wd, all sidekicks have the same 4wd hub.

I've got two sets of converted wheels (4x114.3 -> 4x100), and haven't had an issue with them. You don't HAVE to use capped lug wheels, but you'll want to make sure that the work done is clean, otherwise you'll see it every day. Capped wheels are just easier to make look clean.

Thanks guys I've decided to just keep the wheels I have already.
