HID's pointing too high?

hello everyone

i was just wondering if anyone had problems with HID's in non-HID housing?

i just installed some 6000K HID's on my UCF10, which uses H4 bulbs. It seemed like my driver side is pointing too high as on coming traffic is giving me the "high-beam flash".

maybe i installed the bulb upside down? or does it have to do with how my headlights are pointed?

i had no problems with mines.i guess its because it a projector.and since your headlights has a fluted lense,the light output glares out of control.

is there any way to fix that?

or am i gonna have to deal with angry on-coming traffic?

im pretty sure it's a glare because many non HID headlight housings do that with an HID kit.. your best bet is to retro fit some projectors by a professional installer, it would fix your problem and make them look a lot cleaner.

yeah that's what i figured

the light prisms on the glass itself is making the HID shine everywhere. Since the HID gives out a bright light, the prisms make it even worse

general question for everyone

you think i can wet sand the prisms out and re-polish the glass? then build a better shrouder (sp?) to cut the light off better? 

i really want to stick to a old look, that's why i'm kinda staying away from retrofitting any projectors

No, you cannot. It's Glass..not plastic...common sense here. 

You are going to need to create a 'shield' that helps block out the light from the bottom of the bulb where the light hits the 'high beam' area. You do look like your brights are on all the time, because the light is actually hitting the high beam and shooting out. It's not the prisms. 

Simple solution, get rid of the HID's. Other solution is to drop your car so low that they can't get high beamed by it. Best solution, is to wait until someone creates a clear lens, then retrofit. No other way around it.

Buy some casper shields.

yeah i've taken out the HID's already
i guess i'll just have to wait

the only reason for me to put HID's on is the stock lights don't generate enough light at night. i've already changed the bulb to a brighter one. guess i'll just have to wait till my kit comes and get my fog lights installed.

any solutions you can suggest for now?

Where would you get casper shields?

Ebay...just look for H4 Casper shields...mainly a honda thing...but it works. You could make your own, not too hard, just need to block the bottom half/play around with it to see how much glare you can shield.

The stock lamps generate enough light. If they didn't, they wouldn't pass DOT/SAE standards and the car wouldn't make it to market. Nobody seems to realize that you don't need to light up the road in front of you, you need to light up [i]things ahead of you[/i]. Things that need to be lit get lit, because the headlights are aimed properly.

I agree that it is enough to light up things in front of you, but for a lot of us riding 2 inches off the ground, it's good to see the road in front also. 

Im rocking HIDs in my halogen housings with no problems.   HID fogs are on the way too!

yeah i know, the stock headlights with some brighter bulbs isn't really that bad

i'm just greedy with wanting more light at night. plus, i'm just jealous of all the cars i see driving around with HID's in their halogen housing. :giggity:

yeah i know HID fogs are the way to go

but...do u think it's ugly to run halogen headlights and HID fogs?

That's like pooping out of your mouth. Just not going to work man...especially with the way the fogs are situated at the headlight housing, not lower and off to the sides...you are going to be blinding everyone and you gotta quit thinking about  the 'looks' and more of the 'function'...

oh...thats not what i meant

the stock fogs are gonna stay yellow...i wouldn't change it if the world depended on it
what i meant was HID fogs or whatever you want to call it when i get my kit

tophat customs or sherlock society were suppose to make some clear lenses for the LS400s, sc300/400s, gs300/400/430s but something came up and they ended up giving some refunds back. so theres one supplier down the drain, but currently there are "eagle eyes" for the LS400 on ebay that run around $250 and they have the clear plastic lenses but it is a 2 piece set, not the 1 piece set like the JDM headlights are. i was thinking about getting a pair and retrofitting some Q45 gatlings to fill up the space but decided im gonna do something else first and gonna stick to blinding NY-ers.

The stock JDM foglights are already REALLY bright...you tossing HID's in them, is going to make it blindingly bright, and it's not good. Do what you want, but I'm saying you won't need it. Throw the HID kit in the headlights, with a casper shield, align them properly and remember the lights are pointing to the left now, not the right, like the US lights. Just align them properly, and that's the best you can do for now.
 
You can always open up both headlights, and see if you can 'retro' the stock US reflectors into the JDM ones, that way the cutoff points to the right ( US= ____/         JDM=\___)

no HID's will go into my headlights or the stock fog lights on my 93 LS400

HIDs might go in my bumper fog lights when i get my body kit...that's all i'm saying

then next u need to specify on what ur talking about. u had posts saying u want them in your headlights, then another saying you dont.

time to end this thread as HID's are no longer a feasible option for me

k cool, u could get some superwhite bulbs if that makes u feel any better. nokya makes some pretty good quality bulbs.
