Yes they do salt the roads in NY. I don't drive in the snow, I get no traction. The most I will do is go to a wide, dead end street and do some doughnuts. This winter, I didn't drive my car at all.

When I was a kid my dad drove us out on the lake each year I dunno how many people can say they've driven on a lake before? It's just something different. It's kinda trippy (I hate using that word but its true) during the summer being in a canoe in the middle of the lake in the spot where 6 months prior you were tearing it up in your car.

In the whole state with our "famous 10,000 lakes" I would say it happens once or twice a year. The people who are out there first measure and all that good stuff and all the other cars flock around them, its kinda funny to see actually.
However, dumbass drunk people try and race across the lake in snowmobiles (going to center is big no no unless its been VERY cold for a VERY long time AND its the right lake) and they end up going in. Pretty often. Often enough that they news doesn't even cover it anymore when it happens, only in extreme cases or if they are covering it to honor the guy who saved the dumbass dudes life.
