Build: 1996 Odyssey RA1 (StyleWagon)

Well, my plans aren't final at this point, but I'll post up what I've got gathered for the build thus far.  Keep in mind, I'm trying to stay under $10,000 for total costs.  I'm up to about $3,000 right now.

As for the interior, I've got an '01 Accord 6-disc in-dash CD Player with new Alpine speakers for the doors.  I didn't want to go to heavy on the sound system, but the stock setup left a LOT to be desired.  I plan on cleaning up the interior for now, then reupholstering the seats and door panels in the future.  I'm debating on removal of the third row bench (it folds into the floor), and putting in a hatch door, so I can use it for air tank storage.  Then relocating the second row seats slightly back, to allow for more leg room.  I've also thought about fabricating some shelves to mount to the back of the front two seats, so the back seat passengers have a place for laptops or whatever.  But, that's far down the road.

Feel free to comment as you like, as I'd love to see some different opinions.

PS.  If I'm incorrect with the kit manufacturers, I'll change them.  I did not get much information from UPGARAGE or Yahoo.jp.

I'm hoping to go with a UAS or Air Runner setup, to be honest.  The roads around where I live suffer too much heaving during the cold season (Wisconsin), to stay nice and smooth for longer than a year or two, so coilovers are out of the question.  I can't sit as low as I want, when clearing normal road gaps is an issue.  This also dictated my choice on wheels, since running 19's, I'd be limited to a 30-series sidewall... which wouldn't allow me much in terms of wheel insurance. :(  So I went with 18's, but I also like the sizing of them better.

As for testing the wheel fitment, I haven't had a chance to yet.  One, they're not here yet from Japan, and two... it has yet to get over 45 degrees since about November.  Way too cold to be outside working on my cars, just yet. :(

don't for get that you'll need to roll and pll the fenders(or cut them) with those deep ass wheels.just flares without the work won't cut it. looks like a good start. to me

Yeah, I know the fenders will need cutting along with the flares, to fit the wheels.  It's not the first time I've run a large wheel/tire combination on a vehicle. ;)

Great start, you have the majority of what you need... after a long 3 years, I finally have my kit coming in when it should have been the first thing I ordered.... go figure... Have to order my wheels still, next month or so.... then it will be putting it all together.... can't wait, can't wait to see yours either... good luck....

After review, it does look sort of like the Fabulous kit.  When it gets here, I'll have to double check.  I hope it isn't, because I don't like how the front bumper looks like Jay Leno's chin. :(

Rarity really doesn't inspire me so much anymore, to be honest.  I've got a collection of rare wheels, and it's not like it's something "new" (if that makes sense).  I'm just trying to make the van look good. :)

Yeah, I'm dying to get it all under one roof.  Then some "fitment" is in order. :)

I'm trying to think of a color to go with, but I don't want to deviate far from the original color.  I don't want to feel like I need to re-spray the ENTIRE car, if that makes sense, just the jams and under the hood (after the swap).

The Civic is making the journey again this year.  It's getting the priority of my attention, at this point. ;)  I sold those Schumachers a couple months back, because even though they were the proper width... I had to run spacers just to fit them.  I don't like having to worry about those spacers on the track, so they had to go.  I dug out one of my older sets of wheels, and dropped them off at the powder coater last week. ;)  Should get them early next week, so I can test fit them with the tires that just got here. :)

The only reason why I'm selling some wheels (mind you, it's less than half of my overall collection), is because they don't fit the car and I don't fancy them enough to get them re-worked to fit.  Don't worry, though.  More wheels will make their way to my storage unit, after the dust settles. ;)

Total expenditures thus far, including the van's cost:  roughly $3,800.  I'm well within budget thus far, but the engine swap, paint, interior finishing, body/paint work, and suspension will bring me awfully close to budget.  We'll see in a year or so, when I get time to devote to the van.  Right now, I'm perfectly fine with just one project up on jack stands. ;)

I paid roughly $900 for the wheels and about $1100 for the kit.

Well... unfortunately this project will no longer be in action.  As of last night, I had a deer jump the divider on the highway, and I pegged it at 70 mph.  :(  The van is pretty much toast.

Thanks everyone for your concerns.  Yes, it was a crazy event.  Never would I have suspected a deer to sit on a 3-lane wide highway... but I guess they're not that concerned with human interactions.

As for that van... it's toast, and I'm fortunate that none of the gear that was planned for it ever made it into the build....  (I'll get pictures up as soon as I get a chance, since this was my daily driver... I've been in a mad scramble to find a replacement vehicle of any kind so I can get to/from work.)

But, don't despair... I may be down, but not out.

Potential replacement van nearby.  I took it for a test drive today, and (since it's Memorial day tomorrow), we'll be talking Tuesday about me potentially buying it.

The plans really haven't changed.  I've already got the body kit and wheels... the suspension is all I'm really missing.  The only thing I can think of that might change, is the color.  I'll probably keep the purple, as I like how it looks.

Good deal kid, the leather doesn't look bad either. I'm having a hard time making the final decision on my seats. If I had leather.. I might not feel so pressed to decide...

I'm leaning towards a Katzkin setup, when I finally dig into this project... but who knows for sure what I'll go with at that point.

The door panels, as always, need repair internally under the elbow rests.

o man...the first one was a perfect donor for the ra6 front end conversion i got in stock. :pat:

The only problem, was that it needed a bit of frame and mechanical work. :(

Here's how she stands.

Things to note:
1.  Stock height sucks, and it will be addressed when money is available for this project.
2.  The tire size is entirely too small.  215/30/18's on 18x10's is just ridiculous.  I'm shooting for a 275/35/18 in the rear and 245/40/18 up front.

275/35 on an 18x10 will not be stretched at all; and 245/40 will barely stretch on a 18x9. You going for the fatty tyre look?
 
If you want higher profile tyres; go 225/40 and 245/40; it wont be too stretched (if you are worried about that), yet it will still let you get close to the fenders for a flush fitment.

I'll be doing a bunch of metalwork to get the fenders/quarterpanels to match the width of the wheels, so fitment at this point is not going to be an issue.

As for the tire sizes, I've never been much for the super-stretched look, and I'm always interested in keeping my speedometer accurate (overall diameter must be within 1% of original tire diameter).

Looking forward in the Metal "massaging" of the fenders that you are planning.  That is some pretty good "poke" going on there.  One good thing about these Oddys.....you don't got to worry about clearance on the Sliding door as there is none.  I'll be watching for updates.

Well, the VIP project got scrapped due to the purchase of a nice little house.  Sorry guys (and gals?), but that's a little more important to me at this point in life.

I've sold the wheels, but I'll probably keep the wing and the grille, for future use. :)  I'm selling the kit and fender flares, though.

79k for a 1 acre lot with a 4-car garage that's less than a year and a half old (comes with the permit, as well).  There is a house on the property, but it's not something I'm going to bother mentioning, as it's not the important part of the property. ;)

Yeah, sorry it didn't pan out, but I will probably still pick up a set of lesser aggressive wheels/tires for summer, along with some coilovers.  I'm not so much a fan of it's ride height, to be honest.  A little lower would still work for me.

Just as a head's up, it's not a legit Fabulous kit. It's a Japanese knock-off. I didn't find that out, until the kit got here, and I apologize for any misrepresentation. Also, for shipping purposes, I had to cut the side skirts in half. The only way to ship them whole, was to spend over $600 on a freight charge. And, considering it's just fiberglass, I didn't mind cutting them.

For shipping, I'm only thinking $150 - $250 (can't recall exact number) via. Greyhound bus in the Continental USA, as that's about what it cost me to get it here from California (I'm in Wisconsin). I'd be willing to sell the kit for what I paid, though ($750, but I also had to pay International shipping and Japanese shipping costs).


As for the flares, I'd do $150 + shipping, even though I paid double that.

I paid more than my requested price, but that's only because I don't value it as high as I when I bought it.  :(
