flat tire while parked

Well it happened to me this past weekend. My GF and I were driving to the store (630pm) to grab some things to grill for the next day, turned left into the parking stall, and threw it in park while the wheel was turned fully to the left. Did my thing came back to my car, started it up and took off, not even getting 50yrds I knew something was wrong. Turned off into the next street, jumped out and my left front tire was flat, outer bead off... I was like g'damn.... oh yeah, im in my lexus, 19x9.5 225/35... not such a good idea to park with your wheel turned.. The weight of the car pushes on the side wall and allows air to escape, only with stretched tires... after about an hour (GF got picked up by her mom, took her home to get her car and drove back to where I was) I was able to put my spare on, I had to make 1 trip home cuz my wheel lock wasn't in my car, and my aftermarket lugs are 17mm nuts-my lexus tire iron is a 21mm=great!! Luckily my GF drives an audi so I used the tire iron from her car... anyways, next day I went to my work, which happens to be right across the street where I got the flat, and 2 mins away from my house, to inflate my wheel, I checked the right front tire pressure and it was 10, 10psi... checked the backs and they was right around 15psi... I inflated all my tires to 40psi after seeing this. So, everyone, check your tire pressure maybe once a week... I work at goodyear, and I feel like an ass that I don't even check my own tire pressures often enough, or as often as I should...  its the little things, that really f%^k you up....

I'm willing to bet that when you remove the wheel, you'll find a dent on the inner lip of that wheel that you'll need to pound out.  It may not have done much when it happened (usually a pothole) but it created a slow leak that you didn't notice until it was at a point where the weight of the car couldn't support the tire (and the spot where that dent was WHEN you parked) at a low pressure.  Trust me...been there done that.

The worst part is because of the low profile tires, camber and stretch, you cant notice a flat tire.  Its happened to me plenty of times and my inner barells had to pay the price :shrug: :sad:

I never check mine also and now my front tire is flatspotted:pat:

i got paranoid from you guys about this so i check mine every weekend or 2nd weekend. i only have pretty weak stretch, especially on the fronts, cause its daily but still. (235/35 on 9, 245/35 on 10).
 
i bought myself a reasonable pressure gauge, and then a small compressor tyre pump so i could do it at home. tried going to servo's but their are pretty unreliable and the heads on the thing are so large i scratched both rear wheels lips on the first week i owned them trying to pump them up :(
 
mine do bleed out, esp the rears, ive found. Go from around 40 down to about 34-35 over a couple of weeks

Nope, no dents. I check while it was off the car... also I didn't even stratch the outer lip cuz the outer bead was off and I drove it straight, made 2 left turns and a right turn and no damages... and yes this was in my red LS.
