Heres a question for the experienced bodymens (no homo).im buying a project car thats gonna replace my ae86.the car already has some custom body work done,like a molded front bumper.the front bumper is made out of fiberglass and its molded to the factory metal fenders.the bumper has some damage on it like cracks and what not.and i want to replace the bumper with something else.so,what methods can i use to take off the bumper?do i find the seams and go crazy with a grinder?

Pretty much, yeah. The bumper is going to be scrap after.

I had to use a screw driver and hammer to pry off the bumper and side skirts on my 240SX

Moulding bumpers/skirts to sheetmetal is always a bad idea, for that exact reason.

Just break it off and grind all the junk down to metal. Thats whats gonna have to be done to the molded sideskirts on my daily.

yeah get the hammer and chisel and grinder and get nasty with it.

if you have an air hog sander or d/a take 40 grit sandpapper and expose the area between the fender and bumper...use a reciprocating saw and remove the bumper...use tape to help guide where you wanna cut...
 
you should be able to salvage the bumper...

if the front bumper is anything worth keeping, i would check on the ae86 sites to see if anyone would want to buy it. if they did, i would remove it along the seem carefully then sell it...if u like money =p

Depends how it's moulded.

On my 240SX, the bumper overlapped the fenders, which means cutting it off was not an option. I don't know what he's dealing with, so maybe that will be an issue he'll run into as well.

as long as the the fenders are metal,  there shouldn't be any problems finding the seam and salvaging the bumper...
