Nissan MAF is right behind the filter box, you'll get oil on it and it will throw off the MAF. At least that's what they say. The factory filters and intake system is very good to begin w/ so best bet is just replace it every year, they're only like 7 bucks at everythinginfiniti.com.
thank you
woot thats a pretty good site.
the oiled filter/maf deal isnt really a problem, only dumbfolk soak the filters with oil. you just lightly coat the outer-most part of the filter and have no problem. When the check engine lights kick on, people tend to think "oh no the oil ruined my car!"... no its just that your maf is reading more air so it trips the light, but drive for a few dozen miles and it will tune/set itself. So go for it!
nah, forget k&n. expensive and not that great. just stick with oem or i prefer wix brand. both are wayyy cheaper than k&n and work just fine without the oil, u just cant clean them. u just have to replace them often like FLS said. the dry type oem style filters are the best. stay away from the oiled or foam ones.
ehhh 2yrs later and no issues out of my k&n
its not a big issue, its just not worth it. the whole throttle body and MAFS get a light coat of oil on it. its not terrible, but something im tired of paying 50 dollars for. ive had like 4 drop in panels and 2 k&n shortram intakes and only recently figured out it was a mistake. rather pay 12 dollars for an oem or WIX n replace it about once a year or so, and shake it clean every couple months.
i run a K&N filter in my Q right now, haven't had any real issues. i did notice better gas mileage and accelaration but i'm thinking about switching back to the OEM filter cause i'm too lazy to wash and re-oil my K&N :P
