Unspoken rules

I always hear people say they want something but they can't get it because so and so has it. This goes with wheels, body kits and even cars. I think its funny. Thats not to say I don't see both sides of this arguement. You don't want to bite off of so and so or you don't want to have an identical looking car as someone else.

If something is nice and you want it, why shouldn't you get it? Does your life revolve around car forums and shows/meets? The parts are available to the public meaning if you don't get it, your neighbor can tomorrow.

Chances are the person you are "biting" off of will get over it in a week or two anyway. Just do you

Agreed 100%. Someone out there always has something off the shelf that you could get. Unless you're going to do some work yourself and customize (or take it to a shop or something), then expect SOMEONE out there has the same thing. You gotta pay to be unique.

If by "people" do you mean me? haha

I see it as more of a respect thing. I wanted to paint my car brown soooo bad but when someone else did it to me it was like "welp, looks like he beat me to it!" To me its about originality. I want to paint my car brown, someone else does it, so then that makes me have to pick a even more baller color instead. On the flip side my heart is still set on brown and will probably still end up painting it that new brown from the toyota vensa but the point i'm trying to make here is YES, it IS about you. Build a car for YOU, for YOUR tastes, and build the best car you can. If someone "bites" your style or beats you to the punch, then let it be motivation to do something even better. If you can't come up with better, then fuck it, its a car. Odds are you're the only mofackey within at least 300 miles with a car like that.

EDIT: You also have to draw the line somewhere. To use the example above there's a million black VIP GS's out there and 1 brown one in the states, so having another brown one isn't a big deal, its a color, but if I rocked the aimgain kit and leons AND a JP grill wouldn't that be pretty damn lame? Yes. What about if someone with a Q put bentley headlights in his car, they are available right? so why not? Because, to me, that is crossing that line between 'copying' an idea and 'being inspired by" an idea. Much like how Weds and AME have a particular wheel that appears to have been inspired by the other, where as i'm sure somewhere in china that design is being COPIED by Funkshun Goduce.

LOL I wasn't directing that towards you. I just hear stuff like that every day in real life and on forums. Like someone in one state won't get wheels because someone else across the US has those wheels. Seriously, you are never going to see that person and 99.9% of the people that see your car on a daily basis won't know that the other person exists.

I think the line should be drawn when going custom. If you like something, take the idea and tweak it to make it yours. Example like you said would be to choose another color brown so your not directly biting off of someone.

I personally don't care if someone was to build another PresiBent. If someone is willing to go through all of that trouble to replicate something I created, I will feel really really good about it. Now if they try to mass produce it, thats another story.

I hear you bro, people should indulge in what appeals to them dispite the popularity of an item. The only reason "wheels", for example, or styles of them seem more prominate or "played out" is because we here in the community are too damn used to seein them in various pics. However our cars are not a dime a dozen by no means in the community environment. Shoot my ride shines like a diamond (IMO) compared to most on the road during daily travels, ie grocery store or work etc... I think peeps should def be less concerned about what others think.

haha I know I know I just had to laugh when I read your post since I think my last 4-5 PM started with "God damn it, someone just _________"

If someone made the presibent you're telling me you seriously wouldn't want to catch them at the light and give them a glass bottom boat on their sunroof??

Dude's just chillin at the light, hears pounding on his sunroof, pulls the visor back and "OH GOD!!"

The wheel thing I think is where it gets touchy cause for real, wheels come in a million colors and offsets and sizes and widths, and somehow some other asshole has the SAME ONES as you. The scara is one, and 3-4 people having the same wheel isn't that big of a deal either, but when 20 people have the same wheel... that doesn't really ever happen here though so I dunno. Glass bottom boat.
