Large tires...
What is to large?
Example, I got a guy flaming me on another forum cause I gave someone good advice on getting 245's on his 8.5" wheel. The guy wasn't looking for any stretch or anything wild but some dude insists that he can and should run a f*cking 275!
WTF? is with people, can someone school me in better words on what is to large?
Its to my understanding that it has just as bad of a adverse effect as stretching could.
Not to mention it makes a car look like a god damn Jeep Wrangler!

rofl@ 275 on a 8.5
235 on a 8.5 is normal. 275 should be on a 10.5

I know I know. The guys justification is even worst. He claims it must work cause he has been riding a 275 on a shitty 20x7.5 Akuza wheel!
I just want reassurance that Im not going nuts here!

depends if hes talking about a 30 series tire or a 35 series. 275/30 really isnt as big as it seems. 275/35 is a different story.

its a 35.
For some reason I have been seeing this a lot lately with the American biased ( the kind that thinks everything else is rice ) type of crowd.

Im used to it. I came from GM's. Anything less then a 245/40 on a 8" wheel is rice

I can't stand this look. We call them "Buffalo tires" because they
are all ballooned-out on the skinny wheels.
I see guys do this on cars like stock Accords with OE 16x6.5" rims.
They need new tires and figure "hey, I'll put 225/50-16 on them"
and it inevitably looks like butt.
Tire manufacturers give a range of acceptable rim widths for each tire size.
A 275 on a 7" rim is DEFINITELY out of spec.
(not to mention it must look like ass)

The answer is simple. Look up the make and model of tire, go to the spec sheet. If the spec sheet says it's too big for an 8.5", the guy is a moron and you can feel free to inform him. If it does fit, then who cares what's doing? Just inform him that it's not necessary but he can feel free to.

Thats what I have been doing, letting him be and keeping my pride but it was him that comes off on me like Im doing something wrong. I was just trying to help a person out.
Over all I just think its stupid and annoying when people spread so much hate and they are the ones in the wrong you know? The thing of it is is that he knows in the spec sheet says no go but he claims its all good.
Yokotas, NO! It didnt blow up...yet!

if it doesn't have enough sidewall, and it's too wide, it simply won't go on.
he can find out for himself if it will work or not if he's so clever

different strokes. everyone has their own preference and everyone thinks they're right. i wouldn't think twice about it.

Its not about preference, its about telling someone to do something that may harm them.

you're kidding right? in a land of stretched tires you're arguing safety? 275 is 1 size out of recommendation for a 8.5. you gonna go into every thread on vsc and tell ppl how unsafe non recommended tire sizes are? didn't think so. get over it.

Read up bro! The guy wanted a average conservative fit and it wasn't here on vsc! He didnt want anything wild, get over it! If he did then he can except the responsibility.
Looks like the majority rules against here-on vsc. I dont need to go into every thread.
