got some new headlights
Hey quick question I just bought some new headlights for my 03 Q45 they are the newer ones with the built in fog light I think I'm not positive on that but I like the extra little light and I am curious as to how or if I can remove the amber lens thats inside them. I would love to remove it and get that clean look that the JDM versions come with
heres what I just bought
and this shows you a better view of the piece I want to remove

Im glad you picked those up. Those headlights will give 5 years back to your car in the looks department.
The JDM headlights actually have a projector in there that swivels with the wheel.
Persoanlly, I think you should leave your headlights as is. No one has those on their modified Q. They look nice.

Perhaps you can pull them apart by putting them in the oven at a very low temp. I've seen lots of headlights taken apart this way and then resealed. You could always go the blacked out route!

wow that car looks nice ... looks like it has the whole front end swithed to the newer model with the newer grille ... dont know if I like the blacked out lights or not but I was planning on opening my lights up anyways and im pretty sure the low temp oven would be the way I go thats how I did my red and clear tail lights on my old maxima

The lights are going to look empty without the amber IMO. I wish I would of saved the clear reflectors for you when I junked my headlights
I am pretty sure Blackonblack98 is reffering the the Vlene F50. That car is sick
The silver Q pictured is sick, might be my favorite. The owner is a cool guy too

most likely youll have to remove your bumper. dont quote me though.
as for my opinion, i think you should remove the amber. clear headlights looks especially clean on black and grey cars.
or actually spray them a real light grey or maybe even a chrome finish color.

agi got me. he knows how i drool over this car.
for silver i think clear would look just as good as amber, but i'm not sure i would bother opening the lights to clear em. in the past i've cleared some lights without having to open them through the hole in the back. you might try and remove the projector and see if you can get at it like that. that or just rock em as is... they look fine imo.

still not sure and everything outside is covered in 4inches of sleet/snow/rain/ice so I wont be putting them on anytime soon. One of my friends mentioned something that hasnt been mentioned here he said to try to smoke the amber piece by spraying it with VHT nightshade now that might look very nice and i dont think anyone has done it but i'll probably end up rocking them as is for a whileI got a lot of things goin on and a lot planned for over the summer.

If you are going to pull them apart in the oven do it this way:
1. Heat the oven to 300
2. Once its heated turn off the oven but keep the door closed (to keep the heat in)
3. Put the headlights lens up on the BOTTOM rack on a cookiesheet with tin foil over it.
4. Let them sit for 3-4 minutes.
5. Take them out, try to separate them with a butterknife with painters tape over the tip (to protect against scratching if you slip) if they aren't coming apart easily then put them in for a few more minutes.
6. While the glue holding them together is still hot, scrape out the glue with a chopstick wiping it off on a towel frequently.
7. Once apart take the amber lens out. Let everything cool down, then put glue them back together with BLACK RTV. If it oozes out the sides just wipe/rub it off with your finger. Let it sit for 24 hours without moving them.
Whole thing takes 20 minutes at the most. Good luck!

I was actually looking for a jdm set for a while now but couldn't find any and from what I've heard they run about 2000 for a good set, and I think thats prob true. I got mine for less than that but I think I got real lucky

We got hit pretty hard with snow too. Over 12"
I still got the "butt cheek projectors", thats the reason I trashed my headlights. Im using them for a retro-fit on my car. I havn't seen anyone use those in anything.
To remove the headlights, you don't need to remove the bumper but it makes your life alot easier. There are about 12 bolts holding the headlamp in place. Just when you think you got every possible bolt, there is another one somewhere.

LOL first time I did it, it took be about two hours to remove one light. There are so many bolts in hard to reach area's. Try to find a benley repair manual on google. It will make your life easier if you can print out the doc.

they def look dif and make my car stand out I could notice the lights all the way across a campus parking lot but that might just be because I am excited about them and they make me anxious about the other changes that are coming soon.

I am sure everyone has walked into a pole or tripped over something at one point while staring at their cars with their heads turned in one direction and their bodies moving the other. Its a common side effect and it keeps people modding to get the same feeling again.

hey another quick question so I have the lights installed and am very happy with them I just have one more question do the 05 06 USDM Q headlights have the ability to move up and down with the interior switch like the 02-04 do cuz that was one thing I really liked about my stock headlight. I just noticed its not working and it loos like its wired correctly.

II's and tires on soon. but still dont have any suspension I might do springs for this summer until i can tackle air in the fall winter or next spring. but we'll talk about that in a later thread and I'll post up the rims in an old thread of mine. When they are on.

I also have the 05 lamps on my 02. The 05 auto adjust (as per the 05FSM) based on a sensor that sets at the rear axle. It sends a signal to the motors and auto adjusts them. Now all the plugins are correct so everything works, heck your little motors should whine when you turn on the car. BUT nothing is going to happen. Mine happen to defalt to about 15 feet in front of the car. I did not feel like trying to figure out the signal from the senosr(05) or the signal (02) from the dash. So I just undid the black cable that ran between the hi and low.
I can manually adjust my lows anytime. the little gear wheel is right in reach.
the his are another storey. 3 screws down low.
