1997 Cedrics alternator finally dies

AH!! rage.

Just got this car two weeks ago to replace the 1996 cedric that got spashed up by some idiot. so i got this car and kept the old just incase i need parts.

Sure enough the alternator dies FAR~ away from home, but luckily in my mates driveway :\

My car is way to low to get up on ramps, so i couldn't approach from underneath. So i thought i'd see what was the proper way to to get at the alternator and replace it with the OEM from my first car. It's threatening to rain now -_-; and i really wanted to get this thing running so i quicky jumped on the computer and downloaded a service manual. I will definately wont get this done in 2-3 hours -_-;

I have to drain the radiator of some fluid. Then i have to remove the upper hose.
Remove radiator shroud thing which surrounds the cooling fan too.
Remove the cooling fan
Remove teh alternator upper bracket
Remove air conditioner pipe mounting bracket
Remove idler pully, then remove the belt
THEN i have to remove the two power steering cooler pipe mounting screws
Remove alternator mounting bolt, this long ass one that does two sides
I can then remove the harness heat shroud by pullign it towards the radiator
YAY!!!

its pretty involved it seems, but is it really? I need your opinion. Would it just be better to take it to an autoelectrician for them to give it a good inspection?

Thanks guys, i know you are brutally honest, and you've all done this stuff before.

yeah... got an appointment tomorrow morning to get this fixed... they seem to think its the brushes inside because it still does give a slight charge now. if i rev to 3k rpm i get a slight voltage increase from 12v to 12.2 :D

*facepalm. i think im going to jack up the car and try and get to it from underneath... man... there has to be a better way. so i will try underneath... if i can get it done....

Edit:

jacked up the car, it was pretty straight forward to remove the alternator, just that it is suuuucccchhh a biiiittcchhh to get tools to the bolts....

the service manual was wrong, you don't have to remove half of the car just to get to it. you drop the cover below, reach in from below to access all the bolts...

There is two bolts from the top which hold it in place, bottom screw does the same, but that goes through another bolt which tighten the belt which attaches to the alternator. Ground is bolted on, along with the capacitor, and the electrics plug straight in.

job would be SOOOOO much easier if you have access to a hoist.
