My 1999 Y34 Gloria (Australia)

my name is Jason and im from Western Australia

this is my 1999 Nissan Gloria Ultima Gran Turismo

The engine details are as follows:

VQ30DET (turbo'd VQ30 out of the 300GT V35 sedan)

These pics were taken in Japan by the supplier i bought the car from

the car is now in Brisbane on the East Coast of Australia awaiting customs clearance and compliancing. i t be another 5 weeks or so before i get it registered in WA 

Modifying will be slow due to me still being at uni and the fact that aftermarket parts are expensive, even moreso with the yen being so strong.

i will be putting on a Blitz nur specR exhaust and then probably another set of rims with dish (looking at AME shallen) and a set of lowering springs for now

Y34's have only just become available to import to Australia (Nov 08) so mine is the 5th in the country and will be the first series1 in Western Australia. Due to this there are no local parts available so everything will be coming from Japan

I didnt know they came out so early in Japan.  I figured 01 was the first year of production.  Good luck with it.  We are having lots of new Austalian members sign up who are in love with the style. Glad to see it is kind of spreading down under

the VIP scene is starting to pick up now because we are finally seeing a few more VIP platforms being approved for import into Aus through the strict import ruling. until about mid last year the only VIP cars floating around were toyota celsiors, a few aristos (only been elegible to import for a couple of years now) and a handful (couple of thousand if that) '89-'94 infinity Q45 which were bought in by nissan for a rediculous RRP of AU$150,000 when new. GS300 are available but there arent many of them either and they only have the 2JZGE

just recently the Y34 gloria/cedric, F50 Cima, jzx110 mark II, jzs171 crown and a few others are able to be imported. Y33 will be available soon too i hope

as you can see from these cars that Aus isnt big on V8 in their Japanese cars with the F50 really the only one with the VH45. The toyotas run the 1JZ and the 2JZ turbo engines while the Y34's like mine run the VQ30DET.

in my opinion the VIP scene in Aus will also grow due to the growing pressure the police are putting on JDM style cars where its getting hard to drive a fairly modified car without being targeted, while having a big 4 door car means you blend in a bit more. Having the turbo engine also means its pretty sleeper so non-enthusiasts will be none the wiser.

In saying that though if i were to drive around in a car like some of you guys that is incredibly low with huge -ve camber then it is likely that i would get a defect notice and have to return the car to stock, clear the defect and put all the stuff back on only to be done in a few weeks and repeat the process. We also have a 100mm clearance law, so the car cant be too low, i almost got a defect in my 180sx because the exhaust was 95mm off the road.

I hope that VIP will become bigger in Aus so that we can have a community like you guys do in the US

if you read all of this then thanks, just thought i would let you know whats going on down here and i know that others like Dominik have been here a while and i would like to hear your view of whats going on down here in regards to VIP

just thought i would clarify that being defected for being low will not stop me going low, i will gladly spend the time removing the defect only to put it all back together because i want my car to look good and i wont let the stupid government ruin that

Lol Jason my exhaust has been 45mm off the ground for 5 months now and i havnt even been pulled over. Dont stress, its really not as bad as people make it out to be.

yes but your car is standard looks wise (just lowered), i was more talking with reference to massive rims, kit and dropped on its hole, ie cars that stand out heaps

Thats why you get coilovers... Just wind them up, pass the defect, put it back down.
 
Congrats on the purchase btw! I'd love to get my hands on one of them, and if i dont go back to Japan soon i will probably trade up. But IMO these things look best tucking rim ;)

i will be tucking rim, dont worry, temped to run staggered 19 on the front and 20 at the back. will be a fair while before anything like that happens.

the good thing about the Y34's is that they are pretty cheap, when/if the AUS$ strengthens they will be similar price to late model 180sx's and the like

picked up a set of Junction produce lowered springs for now to start with.

Love those cars, tails are sick as well as the dash. Interesting, cloth interior as a choice! Cant wait to see it lowered.

cloth interior is the norm on these as leather was a rare option on the earlier model ones like mine, only the top of the range Y34's normally have leather and they are a bit more expensive. 

one day i might sell this one and get a late model with leather but that will be in a few years

I kind of like the fact that it has cloth, makes it easier to ditch stock and run something a bit more agressive and sporty. A pair of Recaro SRD's or Brides, for example.

Very nice ride. The only thing that really gives away the age is the dash. Personally, I love the cloth interiors available in Japan. I should do my Q in a nice cloth, leather is nice and all, but on lux cars sold in the U.S.  it's your only choice, I'd like to see some nice cloth options.

yeah i didnt particularly like the dash when i first saw it but it kinda grew on me. i have seen the dash's on the infinity Y34 over there and they are completely different to any dash that came in the cedric/gloria's right through till 2004

the late model Y34's have black trim/dash and granite/marble instead of the wood grain

thats so wierd with the cloth...

Nice platform!  Very cool that you guys can now import newer vehicles.  We still have the 15 yr rule in Canada.

So strange that they used that dash up until 2004 in Japan!
