Coilovers for the G50
Just picked up my coilovers from the UPS.
These coilovers will be going onto this:
The car is currently sitting on cut springs with g35 wheels. Spacers are coming in soon so these wheels will be flush by the sumospeed meet. Now i have to save up and buy some wide and low-offset 18s.

Custom made to fit G50 w/ no Modifications. Or you bought the 300zx or skyline ones?
Those look nice.

Yeah details and specs on the Coilovers would help alot of people.

coilovers are r32 GTR
- 40-way adjustable dampers
- 50mm piston (way beyond the industry standard of 44-47mm)
- Height adjustment independent of preload to allow for an extremely low ride height without sacrificing suspension travel.
I've done my share of researching and havent found anyone fitting gtr coilovers on a g50. People say it bolts straight up, some say they are the same process as the 300zx...I guess ill have to find out myself.
But does anyone have soild evidence about gtr coilovers on a g50?

Word is you still have to modify the top hats on the rear.
And the strut housing in the front.
But your installation will be all the evidence you need. So stop questioning and start installing. heheh.

It works, find a set of teins for a 90+ 300zx. I have them on my g50. I had a machinist mod them to fit. Not exactly sure what he did but it wasn't to difficult from what he told me.

you guys have to remember tho, the 90-93 q45 suspension is different from the 1994-1996. So you guys might want to take that into consideration.

word. pretty much all of the older info is worthless as far as bolt in since no one ever mentioned what year they were talking about. a direct fit on a zenki means no go on a kouki and vice versa.

well I atleast know the z32 fit a kouki. with modifying the front upper hat and lower rear I bolt/bushing.

Unless I misunderstood you there Ron.
Front lower bushing needs to be modified. Strut tower holes.
Rear you need to swap the Oem Q top hats with the Coilovers top hats or make custome ones.

I guess we could start logging this again for future reference.
kouki to z32
front: modify strut tower holes, lower strut bushing
rear: use g50 tophats
zenki to z32
front: modify sturt tower holes
rear: use g50 tophats
interested to see how r32 gtrs work out. i have the old g50 interchangable suspension thread bookmarked. a little more info and maybe we can update it or start another one.

updates! i started the install today and only got the rears on. For everyone to know, basically the r32 gtr is the exact same process as the z32. I didnt have access to press out the front lower bushings. These front lower bushing is about 3mm smaller then the G50 and the front top hat needs one hole to be filed in about 3mm also. But something else also came in the mail. look at the results. sorry for the crappy pics, took them with my phone. ohh yea im about to get laid off soon soo plans to get better wheels will be in the farrr future.

Actually, I only need smaller tires for the back because the rears are 225/40/18. The fronts are 215/45/18 which fit perfect when i switched them to the rear.

Damn what is the offset on those wheels? I'm running a 275 on a 20x10 in the rear that is pretty streched with a 5mm spacer and my wheels have basically the same fitment. But I have adjustable control arms that allowed me to do a crazy negative camber to make it not rub and about 2hrs of major fender rolling.

lol your not doing crazy camber until your are cutting rucas and making them shorter because aftermarket arms dont go low enough.

The pic in my signature was before I installed the adjustable arms, much more camber now. Anyone on air can slam their car showing ridiculous camber for a pic. Driving with that much camber is another feat. Apparently "crazy" wasn't the appropriate term to use in my case. The same for your "lol" coming from a grown man in referring to another's opinion or comment.

I pb blasted the top hat hole so it files down quicker. As for the spring rates there 11k in front and 7k in the rear. I was thinking about custom spring rates but didn't have the funds for it. maybe i can ask fortune auto for a custom spring rate later on. but as for now i love the ride. And the coilover is adjusted to full hardness. Little tweaking and ride will be perfect.

Sorry to take your thread off topic but you seemed to have done alot of reasearch on suspension options. I am a slight bit lazy and not knowing where to get this specific options .
Anyway , i have a y34 2003 M45 .
I want to get air suspension for it as easy as possible.
I am trying to find out what shocks would bolt on mainly if the ones from a q45 do or any others ?
I appreciate your time with a Nissan Noob as i am.
thanks

+1 on the front arches. I need to run smaller tires on the rear so i can go lower. 215/45 rubs a little like this. The fronts are 215/40 so im thinking about switching those to the rears and getting 205/40 for the fronts. Or I can stretch 195/40 all the way around....

true...i feel you on that but with the fender work i did to fit this setup i can probably fit 18x11 with an offset between 5-15. When i do get better wheels, i am going to slap on some snow tires and how you see the car now will be my winter setup.

How are the coilovers btw? Too harsh/stiff? Just right? Bone-breaking? I'm thinking about jumping on Fortune Auto coilovers but I'm afraid of having a very bumpy and harsh ride in a luxury car.

The coilovers are amazing. I love how they ride. My ride is a little bumpy but its because i have soft spring rate with max hard dampening. Make sure you research on the spring rates other coilover companies have so you can compare. Since i bought the r32 gtr set they came with 11k front rate and 7k rear spring rate. I need 14k front and 10k rear to keep the luxury ride.
What car are you planning to buy coilovers for?

I will be buying Fortune Auto S14 coilovers to go into my Y33, which have a spring rate of 7k front and 6k rear. I'm doing a S14 suspension swap in the front. I've seen spring rates for Y33 coilovers range from 7-10k for the front and 5-8k for the rear. I have my old springs from my Stances which are 9k/7k, so I can probably use those if I need to (assuming they will fit). I'm sure Terry can hook it up with custom spring rates if I wanted to.

Yea, Terry can definitely help you out a lot if you have questions. Also, if you are willing to sell the Stance springs i'll be interested in buying the 9k pair. Let me know.

You missed it lol. You are suppose to push out the lower bushing of the gtr coilover and push in the q45 one. But 99% of the time you will need to machine it. And it wont work. So the best thing to do is to get the 1990-1993 Infiniti q45 arm where the bottom mount attaches to. And that mounting point is the size of the gtr lower mount.
So after you get that there is no modifications needed to the front coilovers itself.

that sucks... can you buy just the bushing from infiniti? it looks like it should press right into the coilover

it should press into the coilover. what i did is actually bore out the lower bushing 4mm. that was easier for me because i have a friend that has a machine.

Yeah but what i was told from a machine shop is that because the bushing sleeve on the stock bushing is steel and the lower part of the coilover is aluminum, you are going to have issues with the bushing sleeve gouging the aluminum and eventually stripping out the hole.
Again, this was information given to me and I took it upon myself to figure this shit out. It will cost you maybe 50 bucks to get the 90-93 arms from a junkyard.

Exactly what I dod to my old kouki G50 when I put Z32 struts on, did the same thing when we put z32 Megan coilovers on my cousins kouki G50, just go to pick n pull and get the arms off a zenki g50 and bolt them on youe kouki, then all you need to do is file the upper mount holes and switch the rear top mount o the G50 one, btw megan's ride super nice

I did the boring too only issue I ran into was removal when I sold the sus. The metal of the coilover strut mount had damn near fused to the knuckle. SO taking the coilover the bushing poppe dout and stayed on the car. Infiniti did sell just the mount bushing but finding that part number has been an elusive mystery. could try calling IOS (Infiniti of Scottsdale) and see if Joe can help you out.

separated my shoulder this weekend before i had the chance to snap some good pics with the dslr... so black berry pics it is haha
for some reason this is as low as the rears will go if i want to maintain full suspension travel... i find it strange since normally coilovers have more chance to go low in the back then fronts
this needs spacer...

don't get me wrong i CAN go lower, but then it will not have full travel, and springs wil need helper springs or they will become unseated... which scares the crap out of people when they hear them slide back into place haha (skyline is like that)
i can drop it a good 2 moe inches... but i do not like how that will be on a daily

On my coilovers the bottom section is able to adjust up which keeps full travel. Is yours able to?

Yeah, my megan's were the same. the rears are full tap so you can slam it and still keep travel.

i threaded the bottom all they way down then lowered the collars for the springs so the springs have 0 pressure on them (can spin spring when corner is off the ground)
these are them

what you need to do is adjust the top collar to have some pressure on the spring and unlock the bottom collar and spin it up with the bottom mount

yeah.... done, i took all preload off the spring though so i could get it that half inch lower... so next step is less travel :(
that pic is from before i adjusted it. now i would say there is 1.5-2inches between collars.

what i seen people do is take off the two lower collars to get that much more adjustment for drop.

there is pretty much no weight in the rear except on a full tank anyways. I don't think you would have much of an issue with suspension travel

if all else fails, at least you have beautiful coilovers :)
