Needed "ASAP" help for a FINAL photo school project.

Hi all,

I am posting here to be more specific about my needs and so you can better understand the project and what you might be able to do to contribute to it. For those of you that do not know I am a photography Major at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena.

Basically this is my final project for my "Capture" class. It's all B&W photos so I will prob. be using B&W film cameras and such. The photographer that has inspired my project is Edward Burtynsky. This guy makes magic. At least to me. please check his site and work. http://www.edwardburtynsky.com/

Samples of his color stuff (Gonna bring the Digital with me as well). So of course I doubt I will do as well as this, but it's worth a try :)

Ok so now you know the kind of spectrum I am looking at here. It's pretty overwhelming what we are doing to this planet every day. Literally changing the face of the world. So if you can help in any way bring me closer to taking cool photographs like these I would be in your debt for many years to come. I need contacts to plants, mines, harbors etc. etc. If You can get me in yourself well all the better. I need to "SECURE" at least 3 locations in about 5 days. and then after that I have about 7 days to present the finished prints.

So I have about 10days till I MUST have already done the shooting for this project on some way. Thanks again and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
James

Sorry, I can't help a Bronze member ;)

JK. Wish I could help. If you were out here in NYC, you would have so many locations to choose from.

Good luck. I hope to see some sick car pics in the future

lol thanks guys. I did allot of shooting last week in Irwindale and decided to maybe do two more locations but prob. not. Out here there are not many "EPIC" locations like the ones I am showed. If any at all.

Yeah Art Center is not just a rumor it's hard work and highly competitive. I am also about 20yrs older than allot of my "Peers" :)

Anyways allot of them have allot of talent and possibilities of great careers like I hope I do. It's first term so I am not gonna be to hard on myself for not being Edward Burtynsky or even close to his level of work yet. But I still have hope.

I would drive out to Mojave and shoot at the dead airplane field.
Lots of retired passenger jets.

Also around Long Beach you could find unused dry docks.

Oil fields in Ladera heights.

I am sure there are a few derelict air fileds around LA county also.

Gee3Five those area some great location suggestions. If you wanna set up a day I would be willing to go to one or all of those locations in the next 4 weeks or so. I have already done my shooting for the final and am so glad to now be leaving the 35mm B&W film world behind.

Next term I can re-approach this subject as well with a 4x5 camera. Take some pics like these.

Let me know if you want to shoot.

Well here are some results from the B&W class. I kind of had a hard time with the quality of 35MM B&W film as under some conditions ESPECIALLY when printing large over 11x14 your in trouble. One must really have a technically perfect shot. Next Term I will be primarily shooting 4x5 film cameras. And am investing in Medium format. This is the Ansel Adams type where you have to put black cloths over your head etc. etc. much better DOF and resolution.

The outside shots were so bad I had to use the best of the bunch and they were not my fave location. the prize location I got good digital shots though. So to all you B&W film lovers here you go!

For the sake of space this is really small. I was not happy here so just showing samples. Kind of made it into an old style 1920's photo.

I felt this reminded me of a big natural cave I saw in China, thus another manufactured landscape. These were good shots that I felt were good for the finals. It was good cause it ended up being "my own" rather than trying to replicate Edward's work and fail.

Well I decided to really go ahead to where the big boys are playing photographer these days (besides my school) and bought this :)

This Big Daddy really is what I needed for the project:
Mamiya 645 AF Medium Format Camera

This is a film camera that I can turn into a digital one with some $$ :) Of course it's allot more expensive that the top Canon Pro cameras though so I gotta wait a bit.

Hi all,

To my surprise some or one of my photos submitted for the Art Center public showcase gallery has been selected! It's my first public recondition so I thought I would share it with you guys Forum image I don't even know what photo was picked yet Forum image Just got the email today. It will be displayed for the public in there open gallery where all the Major's works are shown. So us Photo-gs have our own wall Forum image All I know so far is my photo or photos will be displayed large! Nice! well at 20x24 or larger area is bigger than any prints I can make at home. So I will see them bigger than I have before.

Looking at some of the other names I see in the email only 3 other students from my class have also been selected. I am sure there stuff is exceptional so I am glad for them. But with only 4 of us from our term our stuff had to be above the rest to make the final cut. Kind of tickles Forum image I will post samples of the photo(s) they chose when I find out.

I wonder if they picked these finals? Well the indoor ones.
