Thanks for sharing! I knew diffusers would blow up around now. I can't wait for the crazy vent phase to be over with. I think it takes a lot away from these cars. That red crown would be so much cleaner without those 'dirty' vents. But to each their own.

lol agreed. some cars are pretty nasty. theyre like full on show cars which means, as el pres says, theyre just doing wierd and wonderful things just purely to stand out and to tick EVERY box. it isnt necessarilly what you would do to a car if it werent for shows

Hmm...
Couple observations of mine (not like they are important but i'm still going to say them, wut, wut now wut... what?)
1. I think its really funny how they japanese come up with a tight idea then everybody does it, then its evolution is to take the same idea and multiply it. The result is then spreads to the builds and so on and so on...
Examples I can think of off the top of my head:
Junction Produce fenders -> Double stacked Junction Produce fenders
"C" vents in front bumpers -> Tripe C's
Quad tips -> Double stacked quad tips
IS-F tips -> Double stacked IS-F tips
Dual fogs -> Dual rows of dual fogs.
2. I think its funny people are taking pictures of that 300C when most of us probably wouldn't look twice if that drove by. I see 300's on multipeice 22's 7-8 times a week and I live in freaking MINNESOTA. I bet in california you guys see that 7-8 times a MINUTE. Don't get me wrong there are 2 300C's on here that are freaking awesome but those guys had to be at "take psychedelics and go vision quest through space and time to the fathomless depths of your brain, sorting all possible modification routes till you achieve a state of mod-zen in which your whip of destiny is build in front of you" status to get noticed.
3. That Crown with the vertical doors and chrome herriborini's is a showstopper. If I ran a show and that pulled in i'd get on the loudspeaker "THAT guy just won all the thropies, stop the show, everybody get the fuck out." The doors even show off the interior. Don't hate, you know deep deep inside you secretly think they are cool. The color choices on that are phenomenal. The red sideskirt curb feelers make me laugh though.
4. Racingstylez either has a admirer or a japanese twin. Possibly 2 in fact after looking at the pictures again.
5. Triple exhaust is awesome is fuque. It's so awesome I have to spell it with a "que" instead of a K cause its that baller. It took me YEARS to warm up to it but now that I am I love that shit. I wish I had my own exhaust company. I bet even if I did nobody would buy most of what I made cause everyone would say "I like it but it's a little too extreme for my tastes"... then all the 240 guys would buy them ;D
6. The benz's have custom japanese bumpers and the lexses have custom benz bumpers.

so let me get this strait..... being that this whole style began over there and grew so much that it had to evolve to its present state, you say ''its not what to do''. thats just your opinion man! do you think people would rather listen to someone on the other side who is mocking the style in the first place over someone who knows where its going by living the lifestyle themself.
whether you go to cars shows or not , the car enthusiast living in the style with both feet first is who decides where the scene should go and what should be done. not the magazines, not the big companies, and definately not someone from the outside looking in. magazines are mainly there to document and promote what going on, companies who sell aftermarket parts have to change their inventory to the needs of the enthusiast or they would be out of business.
rewind just 5 years at least.....do you think junction produce would make a 21 inch wheel? do you think vipcar magazine would consider a cadillac on the cover? i dont know about you but im still shocked its happening now.
dont get me wrong i dont like how crazy the mods are getting myself. i do respect it though and understand why it is going in the direction it is. in all honesty some of it looks like vip/rice or something, but i would never get on here and think that my personal taste, or even traditional vip style is what ''should be done''still for right now.
im sorry that my opinion has to bang heads with yours, and i really hate to turn a great picture thread into a long debate over this, but where did you first see a vip car? was it in person? perhaps a magazine, could it have been from show coverage from japan?
do you at least see my point ?
you are off your rocker saying that ''you shoulnt take examples'' of what seems to be the present trend to an area where it all started.
flame away if you must, but thats just real talk.

That white crown with the LM-R's did it for me. He took a bunch of bad ideas and combined them to come up with something so sick. Props.
I personally love where the style is heading. Not saying I love all the cars, I just love the creativity

opinions should be stated as such, rather than being presented as fact for the sake of steering the u.s. scene (read: noobs).
personally, i can't stand the new s**t. i think it is exactly viprice. i don't give it credit for being creative and most of the time lately it is poorly exectued imo. to me there's a clear and distinct line between someone with a well done original idea and the guy who comes behind them and says "man... if 1 was cool 4 will be awesome!".
at the same time, as is always pointed out, it's not ours so whatever they do over there as a whole has to be respected. you don''t have to like it but you can't write it off. "staying true to the style" includes the roots and the branches. ya dig?
now me.... i willl stay stuck in my little place, do what i think is cool, and make fun of stuff i think is ugly but i would never try and tell someone how to build their car. unless they asked...

See, that's just it. I agree with you. I give them credit for the craftsmanship..whether or not I think it looks like garbage or not. The thing we don't want is newbs misreading/misinterpreting what they're seeing. The "show scene" is not "the scene" in it's entirety as you pointed out as well. That's the idea behind what I said. People just like to try and read too much into what I post and they get all defensive...which I find amusing. I've said it before and I'll say it again.."There isn't one person in this world that I don't think I can learn something from.", so yah..I'm not a know it all, but don't think for a minute that I haven't been on that porch for a minute.

yeah, we all know you know your stuff and i also understand (haven't decided if i agree or not) why you take the hard line on some of the things you do.
but what kind of message do we really want to send? do you want to sugar coat it so it's easy to swallow or do you want to speak the 100% truth whether noobs struggle with it or not?
the 100% truth is that that stuff you picked up on the porch a minute ago is becoming outdated, for better or worse. i saw it coming in the mags last year and it's stupid obvious this year. i refuse to believe these cars getting coverage aren't the new school. the cars featured in mags, the cars on japanese sites, and the show coverage that gets posted for us on vsc and other places are all the same. ugly or not it is what they are doing and therefore is vip.
i think digging our feet in where we feel feel vip was at its best styling wise in order to steer the direction of what happens over here completely contradicts the "keep it true" approach that has been, and needs to continue to be, practiced/preached.
you can't say "get ouside the box" until you find out you don't like what's out there and you can't say "stay true to what japan is doing" until you decide you don't like what they're doing.
i personally won't be biting on the new style, and it doesn't get any love from me. i've never really felt the need to color in the lines so i won't have any problem not following. however, i have always felt is was important to know and acknowledge what the real deal is. that's what you guys taught me and i wouldn't preach it any other way.

yeah, we all know you know your stuff and i also understand (haven't decided if i agree or not) why you take the hard line on some of the things you do.
but what kind of message do we really want to send? do you want to sugar coat it so it's easy to swallow or do you want to speak the 100% truth whether noobs struggle with it or not?
the 100% truth is that that stuff you picked up on the porch a minute ago is becoming outdated, for better or worse. i saw it coming in the mags last year and it's stupid obvious this year. i refuse to believe these cars getting coverage aren't the new school. the cars featured in mags, the cars on japanese sites, and the show coverage that gets posted for us on vsc and other places are all the same. ugly or not it is what they are doing and therefore is vip.

I totally know where you're coming from..but I still don't see those cars as mainstream deal. I see them as the exception...and I hope it stays that way (please God). Many of those featured cars are just doing those things to win shows...pure and simple, and it's killing what vip stood for and "in my opinion" should stand for. DUB is not vip..right?? Because that's where I see those show guys going and it's lame (and from wheel manufacturers). From what I see from the meets of the "regular cars" it hasn't caught on in full yet. There's still guys doing it old school too..which is actually more like this "new school" of crap we've been seeing but in abomination form this time. So maybe it's another branch of the style and not really a continuation of it. The whole "dish is going out, face is coming in" thing didn't last long either. I guess only time will tell, but don't take the show cars as the example of what to do...I still stand firm on that. Doing things to the car to get points rather than doing things because they look good is completely different..am I wrong here?? Seriously..crap is still crap, it now just has more HID fog lights than it did before.
Yes, the style has evolved over time..and I'm willing to bet that it eventually goes back to being "cleaner" again if it does in fact turn south..almost all styles go in full circle. I believe in mods that serve a purpose (form follows function train of thought), but the ones that are just multiplied for the sake of being "more" are retarded..apparently we can agree on that?

Yes, we (I speak only for you and me) absolutely can. I'm not calling you out or anything like that (and this I think you already know). As you have said to me, it's nothing personal. As much as you feel the need to defend VIP based on your opinions and "save" it from the noobs, so do I.
DUB is not vip..right??
What is DUB? How is it defined? Are there rules to DUB? Are there platforms or restrictions? cause... last time I checked there is NO definition of DUB style; it is as subjective as rice.
El pres you are very passionate about VIP and very knowledgeable and I respect you for that. Trust me man, I know what its like to look at some aspects of VIP stlye and cringe at the direction its going. It's how I feel everytime I see "VIP 240". But the fact of the matter is change is going to happen, there will always be progression and evolution, that is how life goes. [william shatner voice]It.. can't be faught.. YOU.. can't stop it...[/william shatner voice] you can only accept it.
As hard as you want to deny something isn't VIP cause it has 22's, or pass of the trends as only being on "show cars" cause of the level of attention, it can't be denied. It's fucked up to say "those cars are just built to win shows" when its just pics of a VIP get together. Cause judging by the size of the 'crowd' and the complete lack of vendors that doesn't look like a show at all, it looks like a meet & greet.
As people here in the US evolve their pika-poke to tsu-raichu so too will the japanese style be evolving. You don't have to like it, you certainly don't have to take cues from it, but
you absolutely can't place where it stands, or decide its relevance. None of us can. All we can do is our own thing, and hope the japanese take note.
Don't worry about the noobs. They are trying to figure out what offset is. If somewhere between "will 19x8 +45 fit" and "what is camber?" they make a bumper with 4 HID LS460 fogs and ten gills out of fiberglass and bondo with a W211 front bumper then more power to them. I just think we have bigger things to worry about then people in the US putting a shit load of attention and work into their cars. In fact, I think that noobs should take a note from those pictures, look at all the ways you can modify your car to suit your tastes. Change your door handles, change your chrome, pull apart your headlights and put LED's in them, use OEM parts from other cars, make your own rear diffuser, put crazy ass exhaust on your car. Use suspension & wheels as a foundation and build everything else around it. It's just a car, you can make and unmake it as you please. Nothing is set in stone, only in steel. And for everything else, there's mastercard.

yeah, we're definitely on the same page as far as feelings about some of the newer trends and i don't think we have a whole lot to worry about as far as it having a huge effect on what we see happen over here. i think, if anything, it might actually serve us well because when the new guys see an extremely overdone car they probably won't recreate it, since we in general usually don't take it to a japan level, but it might give them the confidence to do something that might not have got done a couple years ago. it's really not the type of mods that are so bad, it's the number of them.
i think a lot of it has to do with the newer body styles as well. they lend themselve's to a more sporty type of look. it could also be realted to time itself. the guys in their late 20's-30's now were youngsters when import tuning was at it's awesomest. by awesome i mean that mid 90's look that's kind of what the new vip trends remind me of. just theories of course.
i agree with you that it will probably calm down soon enough. someday these guys are gonna wake up, look at their car, and be like "wtf was i thinking?".... i hope.

Many of those meets are still competitions...some garnering more importance than most shows. K-Break for instance. Meets here in the US are not like meets in Japan. Although the principal is the same, there IS heightened competitiveness which can outweigh comradery.
I myself stated that things evolve and change..it's a natural process. So that's beating a dead horse...there's no denying it (but I did love the Shatner! Hahaha).
I think many people can look at certain cars and say "that's DUB". Nit picking is not quite the same as bold statements of a style, but your statements do hold merit. Look at the current trend of new wheels..they totally look like DUB style wheels from the US..look at the most recent VIP Car and VIP Style and you'll see exactly what I'm referring to...
I agree that most new people to the scene will not put forth the effort or funds to do mods of that caliber, but if we have the chance to "keep things clean" and progress on our own, independently, maybe Japan will take notes as they have from other US styles. Maybe that's the angle to take?? Thoughts???

I've been saying this for a while. It's definitely important to acknowledge and respect the Japenese roots, but at the same time I always thought we (U.S.) should add something (or in this case take away) something of our own. IMO every enthusiast has something to offer, and every enthusiast has a different take on things whether the differences be minor or major. Use the guidelines and mod with the spirit in mind but I don't think anyone should ever be just a follower. Just because they're doing it doesn't mean you have to and just cause they're not doesn't mean you can't.
I support your statement 100%, but at the same time I can't be mad if someone else does like the new style and runs with it. I will still have to acknowledge it as a vip build... just a tacky one.

I think this also has to do with the growing number of vip enthusists in Japan. Dominik said that the K-Break King Of Sedan show has to be moved this year to a bigger location because the number of cars.
The highly creative detail orinted guys are still there doing their thing. It's some of the new guys that are watching them and trying to emulate what they are doing with out the same skill level or thought process as the veterans.
I was just telling blackonblack98 one of my brilliant drunk analogies.
"Not everyone is qualified to be modding cars. Just because I own a pair of scissors doesn't mean I should cut my own hair."

only thing that i DONT like and CANT appreciate it that some of these cars seem to completely stray away form the whole stance/fitment aspect of vip. other than that, like it or not, its just evolution baby!
