Should I Change My Offsets?

The rims i currently have are 18x8.5" +40 / 18x9.5" +45, with 215/40 and 225/40 tires...

also, if i get 5mm or 8mm spacers for the rear... will i need to get extended studs/where can i get them from?

offset is just a number, do what fits. extended lugs should come with the spacers.

ichiba, h&r, eibach, kics, etc. come with studs... don't cheap out on spacers. it's already bad from an engineering standpoint, don't make it worse using cheap parts.

the length of studs will depend on your stock length. no one size fits all answer here.

stock stud length + width of spacer = length of extended stud for correct thread engagment

Personally I would sell the rims and get the right rims...even if it cost alittle more. You're going to spend the money on spacers and extended studs then why not just buy new/used set of wheels with the offset you need. UNLESS, these rims are like your dream rims and want to keep them...then I can understand. What rims are they? Got any pics?

Yeah those are Honda offsets. Really weak. I'd either rebarrel them or get a different set. VS-XX is easy to come by.

Mesh styles are easy to come by in general. Looks like in good condition. You should be able to get a decent amount for those. I'm not too sure but sounds like S2000 sizing.

Go with HnR over Ichiba. I've read about the studs breaking on the Ichiba ones.
Again, not worth it to buy spacers for these wheels. Just sell them, and get new ones.

where did you get those comments? that sounds llike the wussiest advise ever. stretch and roll for +65? :smiley-rofl:

either way... just mount em already. everyone is obsessed with mm's like they're big or something. i mean... wheel sizes are usually 5-10 mm apart anyway so you could buy brand new wheels and still need 5mm spacers to get it on point.

pretty funny that someone would recommend selling wheels because of the specs without even knowing what car it's for.

number chasers. :pat:

http://www.workwheelsusa.com/media/wheels/26/75/VSXX_PDF.pdf

He has R disk up front. Which takes away the lip. Now he has +40 up front but with a A disk he can go down to +32 and gain 25mm of more lip. It's only -8mm and he gains 25mm of lip just by changing the disk and offset.

Rears looks like he is running an A disk with +45 offset. Drop it to a +39 with an O disk and he will gain 13mm of lip...

After all that he's also accomplished pushing the wheels out without spacers. If more is needed all he'll need are 3mm spacers which most cars don't require extended studs. All depends on rim manufacturer. In our styling I think most should go as big as they can go and knowing they will have to modify the car to fit over the rims. This is the best way to get the closest and best flush fitment.

your opinion is your opinion and your taste is your taste but don't confuse that with "the style". there's 1000000 ways to do anything.

we can play the numbers game though. how bout: he drops from an a disk (normal) to an o disk (super low) and his brakes don't fit. now he needs a 5 mm spacer anyway. was it worth it for 13mm (.5") lip. let me reiterate that. half an inch.

i won't speak on the fitment because i don't know the car.

if you can convince me that he is lacking in fitment then my next question will be what makes working from out to in better than in to out? not everybody is chasing lip, not everyone thinks extreme camber is cool, and not everyone want flares/widebody. those are all personal preferences.

if everyone should run the hugest wheel with the hugest lip and just take the rest for granted then i gotta ask. what are you running? i think agi is at 13 wide negative offsets now.

Those specs are wack, and when he puts them on the car, he's worried about having his fender liner (hence that +75 fender liner mod crap) in there still.

Those 'specs' sound like something from is300.net or CL, where a LOT of people don't like modding fenders for wheels.

He can toss those wheels on and be fine, they are made for clearance. JUST enough space to clear the inner suspensions, and plenty of room to clear the fender lips.

With those specs you can run a fat tire, or rather, 'in spec' for the rim, and it'll be fine, with no rubbing.

I say toss the wheels on, snap some pictures, then post it on the net, and be told to mod those fenders and buy some 25mm spacers.

All that needs to be done is shave the fenders all around and you get a lot more clearance.

Has the OP even test fit the wheels with tires?

Or is HE being the number chaser?

And the car in question is an is300, he's posted that already.

selling 5mm off wheels is stupid, but his rear is more off than that from being a front.

Knowing alittle bit about lexus I'm betting he won't be able to go an O disk up front. Lexus brakes are usually bigger then normal. I had an O disk front VS-XX on my Q and needed a 3mm spacer to clear my shitty small brakes. Thats why I didn't mention going O disk up front since most likely it won't fit. I'm guessing mostly from alittle experience. the rears should be able to run O disk since the rears are always smaller calipers. However I could be all wrong and maybe he has a BBK.

Seems the OP is thinking he needs to push the wheels out or clear brakes. Those are the only reasons I can see him wanting spacers...most likely to be more flush. He is thinking of using 5~8? mm spacers? Anyways that picture you found now thats a sizing he should get close to. Could maybe go alittle less aggressive and still look pretty darn nice. You are right it's all up to his style and taste. It's up to him if he wants to just go the spacer way. Just was my opinion to go different sized rims after selling these instead of spacers. It will benefit in multiple ways vs. just putting on spacers. You're right about some people don't chase lips or fender flares or whatever. With these VS-XX rims I don't see why you wouldn't want more lip.

I'm 20x9.5 +27 and 20x11 +23....for sure if I went 18s or 19s and have a width of like 9/10 and get even more stretched tires then for sure I can get to 0 offset and negative. However I bought these rims used and got lucky and fit pretty nicely. Fronts for sure I could go lower about 10-15mm offset less maybe even lesser if I play with the camber plates. I actually have these up for sale so I could go more aggressive just for the fronts. Most likely another set of Works.

Anyways, the OP was about studs and spacers. Go with the H&R if you can but I'm sure there is signifcant price difference. From what I've been told from my rim shop they said the bolt should turn atleast 5 full turns to be considered safe. If you put on the spacer and can't thread on atleast 5 full turns then its recommended...no, YOU SHOULD get extended studs.

all of you are correct, i should post pics to see how they look and if i would need to get spacers or not...

hopefully i will be getting my car back within a week, so i will do a test fit and some measuring!

my goal is kind strange. I want to be flushed, but at the same time have slight rim poking out from fender and i will try to spin my tein cst coilover close to all the way down... i want to be as aggressive i can without having to pull or shave my fenders (i don't mind rolling) - hence the reason i went with stretch tires!

I don't know but I've been told not to roll Toyota/Lexus fenders. You can only do so much rolling before paint starts cracking. Cutting/shaving you can get all the way to the edge almost. I dunno how those people run their cars with the fender sitting on top of the very edge of the lips. How do you avoid hitting the fender while driving and hitting a nasty bump? I guess air suspension? Or maybe I was fooled by those pictures I've seen. Maybe it was just for show temporarily.
all of you are correct, i should post pics to see how they look and if i would need to get spacers or not...

hopefully i will be getting my car back within a week, so i will do a test fit and some measuring!

my goal is kind strange.

Good luck!

Nothing wrong with pulling really. If you are willing to do all that then I don't see a problem with pulling. I want to get it done but not sure where and how much. It only really gives a few miilimeters but I think it helps clear the tire/rim when the suspension is travelling.

IS300 guys are usually really wimpy with their fitment. That 9/10 +25 is definitely possible and it looks good.

Don't roll, just shave the fender lips. If you need to pull, you can do so afterwards.
