Do the y34's in Japan tub the wheel wells?

Since I am planning on going air next year, almost there on the funds, I was wondering how the Y34's in Japan get so low. I know MrMark went air on his Y34 but was unable to compleately dump it.

Just wondering what the japanese guys are doing to get that low. Any ideas?

i really doubt you need to tub. i think wheel specs and suspension selection are the keys. might want to check with mark and see where exactly he ran into trouble.

maybe I am wrong, but the JDM pics seem to have body kits also???

MrMark has the full JP kit also. I dont think the kits on the JDM ones have wider fenders though so the kit should not matter.

It didn't look like he had any side skirts in that pic, but ok..and the rear bumper didn't look as low as the other two kits

it seems to me that mr mark's wheels are wider than the jdm ones shown tucking. That may possibly be a start.

on a side note. Damnnnnnnnnnnn Japan was just made with a ton of places to use as nice backgrounds for car pics.lol

MrMarks car was using UAS over factory struts with no major modifications. Y34/Y33 factory struts do NOT allow for a serious drop like the JDM cars you shown with UAS over just the factory struts. You are either going to need to highly modify the front struts for UAS or run coilovers with bags over them.

And for the rear, the UAS Aerosport is not the bag you want to use given the suspension design. If you are able to find a rear kit for a 350z(share almost identicle rear suspensions) that uses a standard billow bag that will compress smaller than the 4" of the Aerosport and have some proper mounting plates made you will get the severe drop you are looking for.

No tubbing fenders, no widening fenders, just build a proper air suspension the first time.

I beg to differ on this one partially. I am running a 19"/235/35 front and 20"/245/35 rear setup. During the process of trying to fit my rear wheel w/o rubbing i removed the rear spring and compressed pushed the wheel well up for clearance. With the 20" I was able to achieve tsuraichi but the top of the tires were resting against my wheel well. On 19s i was able to achieve a much bigger tuck
I believe to achieve this type of drop on the rear, there is some amount of tubbing involved. To what extent, am not sure about. Too bad you are getting rid of you car, or you would have found that out for us.

I forgot to mention that there was a pic of a white US y34/m45 at some meet that was super dropped that was posted a while back. I cant find the darn pic. Can someone please post it?

Yeah a lot of it has to do with running skinny enough wheels or enough camber to get them in there. I know I will have a better chance of getting the drop I want with 19's. I actually wanted 19's but got a deal on the 20's. With the wheels I have now there is no way I could drive tucked unless I went major camber.

I don't think i will be going with the UAS kit. Something custom I think.

i doubt they are all tubbed. it depends on the wheel specs, AND the type of kits. some skirts are tall, and some short. it just depends.
if you look at the wheels, theyre tucked, where as Mr.Marks car isnt.

Yes you have to get the wheel tire setup proper with the camber in the rear to get the tuck you see, but I can promise you that If you have them setup correctly with a good bag setup that has had some thought put into it, you can achieve the stance of the black one shown above easy.

You do also have to remember that the y34 is a lot smaller car than a y33 f50. especially in the fender area. 18"s on a y34 are equivelant to 19"s on a y33 and maybe even 20"s on an f50. Look at most Japanese examples and they are running 18's.

There is also the silver Mode Parfume y34 that is on 19"s tucking the same as the white one shown and it does have tubbed fenders. This is why I DO believe the white one has had some fender modifications, because those look like 19s that are tucking in a lot further than any other example I have seen.

But trying to roll 20" inch wheels and have the car sitting like the ones you have pictured will require fender work. I can all but promise you the black one is on 18" and the white one on 19" with some decent fender work inside.

yup id agree on the fronts. uas over stock infiniti struts will not get very low at all. without a kit it just doesnt look right to me to be at 0psi. i was very disappointed so i had them redone so the car lays way lower.
im not so sure if f50 rears are the same as y34, but my rear does get pretty low, i think maybe a shorter rear strut would work fine in achieving that extra inch of dump, since it already raises up like 3-4 inches above tire. anyway to me the rear is low enough in their regular uas setup(i think he made custom brackets for the rears, not sure if that helped lower it). ill try to post better pics soon of the dump, but in the meantime i have other pictures in other threads.

id definitely say with infinitis just go air over coils or airrunner since its almost the same price since we need to pay extra for damn spindles on the coils. uas over stock struts is a quick solution but after all the custom fabbing, time etc youll probably just want a more bolt up system. i dont think the soft struts are that good to rebound the bags at low psi heights anyway.
front tubbing could be helpful as my 245/35 tire on a 9" width (basically the biggest size tire that is considered a slight stretch over oem) rests on the inner fenders and i have no idea how much lower it could get. will find out soon with a hammer :runcoold:

Yes, the combination of the factory struts and the UAS system does not allow the Y34 to drop any lower. In the front, we even flipped the top mount to gain another inch of drop. The rear does not go any further down due to the UAS design. My wheels did tuck....barely, but the suspension would not allow any further travel. The issue is there are few selections for this car.

Oh, the JP kit does have side skirts with door panels. The JP kit sits much higher than the Mode kit, especially in the front and rear.

The tucking is what I am referring to as being low. Not that the side skirts are low to the ground. I knew Mark had a full kit. I guess my custom setup is going to be the way to go if I want it dumped.

I just realized today that all Air Sus are not created equal. Dont go the custom route too quick. You can get air runner instead.
