#246469Review: (extremely) affordable and quality burlwood
Alright so I thought wood vinyl was wack. I got some blackwood that was extremely lame. So I gave it ONE more chance and grabbed some burlwood vinyl. I'm not going to lie it looks pretty damn good. It FEELS good too. It doesn't have that "deep" wood grain look but it DOES have the glossy feel of woodgrain not vinyl. Plus with a heatgun (I used a lighter) you can get it to wrap around ANYTHING with few (if any) relief cuts. This stuff is PERFECT for van/scion/carmy/ect.. builds since its not overly nice that it looks out of place, but looks better then most OEM fake wood trim. It has that true grain look unlike some of the cheaper woodgrain that comes from the factory, or some of the factory wood dips, none of those surface sparkles.I wanted to see how crazy I could get in terms of stretching/wrapping... so I did my airsoft FAL.
pistol grip is 1 peice of vinyl, foregrip breaks into 2 parts to hold the battery, each side is only 1 piece of vinyl. A tip if you are blending use an xacto blade to cut around the burl knots, that way when it folds over it looks natural. Then heat it up a little longer then you would and MASH it straight down (if you go at an angle it can bunch up or fold over) it'll blend together. You can even use that technique with little scrap pieces if you need to cover certain spots. Just be sure to heat it up right before it burns/discolors/liquifies.
See look, the seam is nearly in the middle of the side of the grip but you can't see it.
Look at how detailed you can get with it. 1 peice, heated it up with the lighter and pushed down... took like 20 heatings to get it all even and secure... look at the grove and where the hand guard bolts together to the gas block.
It's real easy to install, repositionable till you heat it so if its off center its no big deal. Clean the surface real good. Use a lighter to heat it up and push it down firmly with your fingers. Thats it. It's that easy. That gun took ~$4 of material. You could do your headliner for like $30 ;)
The burlwoods are legit the other styles just don't look right. Burlwood is a winner though.
