GS300 Automatic Question
Im new to the whole car scene and i was wondering. If i have a gs300 and want it to stay automatic. If i put any mods in the engine would it be the same ass doing it to a manual transmission? And a friend was telling me that you can tune for an automatic to switch at a higher rpm rate is this true?
Thanks much help needed.

if you have to ask that you shouldnt even be opening your hood to add water to the engine.

Your question is a bit blurry.
If you plan on increasing your engine performance vividly - a shift kit and oil cooler become requirements among other improvements to be done. Shift kits provide more positive and firm shifts over stock by reducing/eliminating shift overlap. So you will no longer have that silky smooth Lexus feel. These kits reduce wear since the transmission will not be trying to drive into two gears at once anymore.
To obtain full gain of the shift kit - adjusting the programming is needed, most contemporary transmissions - the valves are controlled by electro mechanical servos which are controlled by an EMS (Engine Management System) or a separate transmission controller.
With oil coolers - there are a few different styles/designs: fin, tube, and stacked plate. There are numerous companies out there you could use – the sole purpose of them is clearly to keep the transmission oil temperature with in a safe range.
I suggest planning out your project before rushing into it and do not be afraid to consult with professionals ever.

o wow. I thought you would have known more about cars and modifications. Well I guess you have to start sooner or later then.
Automatics aren't that hard to deal with IMO.
What are your goals for the car?

You have a good base car then.
Well then the GS300. Is a pretty good start. Solid engine. What I would recommend is probably to get the automatic built. Your best bet though would be to speak with shops in your area that builds supras. In my eyes the GS300 is a Supra Saloon.lol

It's a toyota man it can handle it.lol worst case scenario you can swap in a supra turbo 4 speed auto. Those can handle more than a gs' 5 spd auto. If I remember correctly the second gen gs is a 5spd auto right?
