Might buy a 93 LS400 NEED ADVISE PLZ
hey guys i need some input here. I friend of mine has a 1993 LS400 that he wants to sell. The motor has around 160k on it but runs just fine, no leaks whatsoever and has been maintained. the only thing(s) that need work are
1.) the cars interior dash lights suffer from a flickering/blinking problem
2.) the steering wheel is stuck in the highest tilt position (possible electric gear problem?)
cosmeticly the car is ok, just a few light scratches and there is some oxidation on the trunk lid
the car is two tone, dark green on top and the grey runners.
he wants 3k for it
what do yall think?
should i hop on this and get started on my first vip car?
thx guys

No rust? I could live with that.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal considering what ucf10's go for around here.
But is this something you really want or you just trying to get your hands on a vip platform?
If you really want it go for it. But if not then definitely wait for what you really want to buy.

the flickering lights are a common problem in the 1LS. pretty easy to fix if ur good with soldering or knows someone who is. the steering tilt problem could be a bunch of things but i suggest you search on clublexus and find out. im sure u can lower the price down from 3k due to the minor problems that u can dish out. say u have to repaint the trunk, thats like 200-300? the dash problem is another 100-200 if u send it out to fix. a full detail costs around 200 or so, so u can use that to ur advantage and try to haggle. good luck, hope to see you make a good choice.

no rust at all
i really do like vip styled cars. I love the low wide stance and the massive dished wheels. plus get the beast dropped on coilovers with some nice wheels and offset, exhaust....that would be fabulous.(no pun intended)

One thing to look out for on those 1st gen. LS is the power steering pump. Make sure it doesnt squeel when turning. The P/S pump is located above the alternator and when it leaks it drips down to the alternator giving you more problems. The rack and pinion rack on these cars tend to go bad as well, especially that many miles on it.
Good Luck on that car, but I do think for that much dough you can wait and get something else or prob newer.
By the way thats a UCF10 1990-1994 LS400

motor and trannys are bullet proof if kept up to tiptop shape. non interference motor so you dont have to worry about bending ur valves and etc when the timing belt snaps but check when the major maintenance was done. ie. TB, water pump, etc.

i will check the timing belt date and get back with ya
i dont want to get ahead of myself, but as far as mufflers go, what type of mufflers and tips would be appropriate to give this thing a vip look and make the car sound mean? thx guys

Where is the Starter ???
ok for 3 grand thats a Damn Good Deal you should Jump on It.
I just bought a UFC10 myself and the first major Problem I encountered is the Starter.
Can you Imagine the Starter being under the Intake Manifold ???
Now think how much that is to Repair or Replace. $700 plus.
Also our Year with that many miles will soon need Gaskets and Rings Replaced.
So do a Compression Test before you purchase to see where you stand.
