PC help

I have a DELL inspiron 1520 laptop that I use browsing the net and playing WOW. Yesterday the powercord was accidentally unplugged resulting in the battery getting drained.
 
 When I got home to check on emails, it had to restart since it was so low on battery power, when it did I noticed that the mouse pointer starting to skip every now and then, and noticed it more when i played the game.
 
  I have updated my vid card driver and change my settings to low settings just incase. But it still didnt solve the problem.  
 
  So the question is will the battery dying cause something else to fail in the PC's internals? What should I check out first?

Laptop was left unplugged causing graphics to skip every second or so. 
Happens during regular internet browsing and in game.

are you using the mouse pad or an mouse device?

it could be a coincidence that the mouse pad is failing at the same time. and it is common for the mouse pad to fail.

I'm using a plug in mouse.  Looked at my mouse pad and sensors and it looked ok and klean.

Perform a Disk Cleanup to see if freeing up space helps with the lag.  Do you let your laptop rest from time to time?  If anything, your laptop could be overheating or there's a lot of things running in the background.

Also if your battery has gone bad it can cause random issues, try running your system with out the battery.

Canned air and blow it in to the vents to clear out any dust.

when you use your mousepad does it have the same problem? have you tried another mouse device? i know it sounds simple enough, but thats what a lot of people overlook and is usually the solution.

if it's low on battery, it may have throttled down the CPU power, even though it should revert to full power once it's plugged back in and charged up, it might have gotten stuck in low-power mode.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. Seems like it just needed to rest for a full day for it to work properly.
