Let me set the record straight. Should I be pissed? Is this quality for a 6500 paint job.  My dumb as paid cash and went off the honor system and shook joe's hand when he assured me that he would take care of all the things wrong with the car.....stupid me and when it came down to it, dude would not write me a receipt why? because he said his lawyer advised him not to, in the end this was what i was left with.  So F Joe at Midnight.  I was holding on to this for sometime now, repainted my car just to put the pass behind me and move on but some dude tried to smear my good name.

Wow that is some fuckin bullshit. Who is this guy again?? For that price and that shitty quality you better put his ass on blast and if hes on this forum he should be banned. His lawyer said he shouldnt give you a receipt? wtf.

Wow that is BS!  you need to request a receipt in writing and by law he needs to produce one for you.  That sucks man.

I'll put pick up of my first paint job and we can compare.....was they a picture of your paint pulling off....?  needed more prep time he didnt mix it right...how long was it in the shop for this paint job.....?

this is what a certain someone is referring to...why i called the cops, but no law written that he has to produce a reciept atleast none that i can find oh, check out the receipt here.......awesome these are the kind of people that a certain someone refers to as a friend that feels that i wronged him.

Who should i be pissed off with?  The guy that painted the car? The guy that referred me to the guy? The people that continue to do business with the guy even after the fact and then say i fucked up business? business was f'd from the jump

It was in the shop about 4 weeks, could have been longer but hmmm i'm not even going to go there but funny its the same guy that painted the twin f50's  but when I asked to keep the car black he refused and said my cost would be the same even to keep it black...i know as retarded as it sound...at the time i knew nothing and was too damn trusting  to the people that i had around me and this was the end outcome...and yes i'm a cash customer, I paid cash for everything, I did not want this build to haunt me with credit debt...I got hustled but its all good, lesson learned so yeah anyone that i deal with from here on out - id have to admit, i'm a pain in the ass to deal with because that trust in no longer there.  At one point if its ready stock and I want it...i will buy it.  

I can write a book on this build and my experience from start to finish but hmmmm never shit where you sleep!

ayo jermaine, is this after he redid your car for the second time?!?! thats f'd up if it is.... and i dont understand, he does such a great job on the twin F50's but does this type of job for you? man, i really wish i had the time to work on your car man... im pretty sure i couldve done a better job, drrunk... hahaha. 

this reminds me of that one dude out in cali that everyone hates, mike something i think.....? the guy yokotas13 flew to japan to "fark" up his car.... those 2 guys should get together and make some smors. together, they would be an unstopable team. lol

And yes this was after HIN after I gave him the car for 3 more weeks while I was in the Philippines and the same result....hence the air brush cover up...the plot thickens

wow..thats horrible...sorry for your loss...for that price you could have got the paint job and a new daily beater with a new paint job while your car was in paint....and his receipt is as good as his paint job. wow...

damn im sorry this happened to you man, because someone who spends $6500 for a paint job should be getting like OEM quality and refinish.

not in the painters defense, butt i know people who can do great work, (the twins f50's) and then do average/crappy work for other poeple they don;t know very well. so the people who refered you, could have talked to this guy and helped you out by making sure he does his best work. 

i would be pissed if it was me! and fuck the reputation of the shop and their business, as they should stand by all work that leaves their doors. if they have feel ok to let you have it back in that condition, then thay should be happy to get all responses good and bad!

obviously in this case their shop looks like shit, with the half ass work and quality they did for you. i would try and get your money back if possible. and then when you come to cali, get the car painted by diego at his dad's shop, or at platinum vip, and get the killer black paint you wanted in the first place.


as for the reciept, i'm not sure you can force him to produce a reciept. this will be you your biggest issue if you do take him to court. 

JUDGE: did you have a contract for the work provided?

YOU: no i didn't

jUDGE: then how do you prove what you paid and what was supposed to happen to your     car?

i got the car re-painted already and if i took more pics on the disassemble you could really see how much stuff he did not take off the car. 

Yeah thats where I was stuck, without the contract, it would have been my word against his and considering the people that new about it did not step up and make any attempt to talk some sense into him...the cops advise me to stay away  because then i would be the one breaking the law by harrassing him.

new paint - new wheels - new kit - new look and thank god thats all behind me.

it would have been nice if he admitted he did an ass job and recooped me some of my money, that would have been the honorable thing to do but i guess he figured he was going out of business anyway so he did not have the care for his name!

i wouldnt pay $6500 for a paintjob in the first place. i would expect better work at the $4000 range too. sucks you got ripped off. but, never pay up front or before youre completely satisfied and avoid cash if you can. things tend to go much smoother that way if there is a dispute.

agreed, i would have never took delivery of my car in that shape. it would have stayed until he did the job i paid for. but you live and you learn. sorry you got jipped dude.

You need to collect docs w/ sigs for errything you do.

pay with credit or check...minimize cash transactions unless noted in writing..especially for anything over $500..yada yada yada....i would have the guy and his shop taken out...but thats just me...

in his defense(33flavors) on the big pricetag, down here its hard to find shops that will do a quality job for under 5 grand. i basically looked all over and for 5 grand the best i could get was an exterior respray, no jams nothing. oh and thats semi hooked up too. i got quoted over 10 grand for a full respray plus kit fitment and fender work. (techone and JL's)   also i should mention i was limited to legit shops that work with insurance since my car got vandalized, otherwise i would have got it done by any old shop or backyard bodyshopper for a lot less.

i got my car painted there at midnight too, in all honesty it was kinda junk, but i got a typed receipt at least and his word on paper that he will fix what im not happy with. i hope he keeps his word cause i know a lot of people that know him. dont want it to get ugly cause were on good terms still. it is irritating to me how the 2 other f50s and the ls430 came out with less visible flaws, but ill save further judgement til he works on it again.


i do feel for you man, paint is a bitch. this is my third paintjob and none have come out even close to how i wanted, maybe im a perfectionist, or maybe i need to GET THE F*CK OFF THIS ISLAND!  lol if i was still in LA i would have bought my car, all my parts, and had it painted years ago. and i probably would have saved 5+ grand total while im at it(im talking audio,interior,paint,suspension etc). i dont think im happy with ANY work that was done to any of my cars so far...everything had more than a couple of mistakes and mishaps. 
thing that pisses me off is i always pay for the better product, and in cash. if i were in business id like to keep cash customers who pay top dollar for whatever product instead of dicking him around. that goes for shops and companies. 
anyway im glad you could afford to move on and repaint and restyle the car. i didnt like the kit anyway =) jk

lol i was gonna leave my car there but he was moving shop that week. ill give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that he was just rushing to finish my car and get his shop cleared out. :shrug:

for a full change color 2 stage paint job for a big body sedan would run you $3500-$4000 and thats including small dents and dings for body work. door jams, underhood, both windows removed, bumpers, and all other R&i procedures. It cost a bit more because of the PPG-DBC base and clearcoat we use. for cheaper quotes we have to sacrifice the quality of materials but this is our standard price for doing it the right way. I can't believe 10k for a paint job for a regular 2stage change color??? with that much money you can get a chameleon or candy paint job for a big ass dually truck!

THats fucked up.  Shops like that hold people back from getting any work done.  Never leave more then a 10% deposit so they have to work for that other 90%

Sorry to hear about this. You could take care of %90 of the fish eyes by block sanding the whole car and rebuffing. Or insist that he does it. You can also give him the "I can call my lawyer if you want, if that doesn't get a resolution to the situation there are a few other numbers I can call to resolve it.

yeah i got caught up, getting all into the show hype...and thinking that because he was a Marine that there is no way he would do a fellow Marine the same......I did not second guess it up until the point I was rear ended and I figured him and I could work it out by him fixing my car and doing some additional work on top of the insurance claim but he basically wanted to charge me another 8,000.00 for the additional work to include all that stuff that was messed up with the car.  i had about 4500 of insurance money to play with and thats all i was willing to part with....could have been win win but he still tried to get even more out of me..and yeah i made my rounds and like jaynick said base was like 7-8 g's and to go over someone else f'd up work 10+. So i was trapped-cornered with no place to go but things looked up I will have the end result this week

That is some bullshit. Totally inexcusable for that kind of money

damn same exact boat as me.. and i refused to pay 8+ for a paintjob down here, even if i know the shop and know they do solid work thats just too much for me to swallow even when i had the money to drop on. guys like daygo at jocsons makes me jealous of the options that some other people have. :pat:   i made a promise to myself that if i start another big project im goin goin back back to cali cali 
 it seems like its more of a buyers market up there.

midnight has a reputation for bags...never been known to be a good paint shop...
 
it also depends on who works on your car...you should know who the painter is, not who the shop owner...the shop owner is just a business man...the painter has all the skill and will be working on your car...if you know a good painter, it doesn't matter where he works, you'll probably get a good outcome...its like taking your car to a mechanic...you can take it to the best shop in town, but you have no idea who the technician is that will be working on it...it could be a lube tech making his way up and changing a head gasket...too many variables that can go wrong...
 
you're better off grabbing a production painter at a known and respected shop since quality is number one on their list...

Got to say that I love the new color.  Not quite feeling the wheel color combo.  The Gold and Silver/Chrome pieces seem to clash to me.  I think that Color Matched Wheels or even Silver Polish would match better.  Just my .02 cents.
