Can I reuse rim rivets after used once?
I broke my brothers Iforged rims apart this past weekend. The lips are getting repolished and the face is being powder coated. Rivets look like they just need some cleaning but in good shape. I contacted the tech dept of Iforged looking for torque specs and the guy responded saying they recommend using new rivets when I put it back together. I messaged him back and asked how much they were but got the same response that I'll have problems later and SHOULD get new rivets. Now has anybody had any problems with reusing the same rim rivets on their rebuilt wheels? Is 27.5 ft lbs. enough? Should I put some blue loctite?

The rivets should be replaced everytime they are removed.

27.5 ft lbs of torque. Do not use the same rivets again as you will have issues down the road.

first of alll, let's get the terminology correct. there are not rivets, there are nuts and bolts. a lot of rebuilders reuse hardware (especially in cases where all original is desired), but a lot also replace it. there can be a good amount of stress on the bolts which can cause them to stretch slightly out of spec and not torque correctly. my guess is the manufacturer is playing the "bettter safe than sorry" route, as i have never heard of it causing problems. from what i have seen, ppl that reuse hardware torque slightly under the oem spec. not sure why exactly. loctite for sure.
i bought stainless nuts/studs (not necessarily recommended) for the lowenharts i am having refinished to replace/prevent rusted parts. ran me about $75 iirc. i will be using the original bolts though.

you're right...they shouldn't be called rivets but alot of people misuse the word to describe it. Anyways I found it should be called a 12pt stainless steel bolt. I hear ya...I think I'll just reuse them but for sure use some loctite on them and torque to spec. I'll most likely torque it to 27lbs with loctite and see how it goes. I've seen some wheels with missing bolts and I'm sure it was due to incorrect assembly. Just don't want that to happen to me.

so the iforged came with stainless bolts? most companies use plated steel. i touched on it before but did not go into detail. common stainless (304/A2) is slightly weaker than grade 8 steel. if you are not replacing the hardware it's a non-issue but just in case someone uses this thread for reference it should be clarified.

Re useing them is fine. If they start to snap you will see a few of them lying around and know you have to start gettign a new set.
My rims have been through hell and taken apart multiple times. I have had maybe 3 that broke off over 5 years .
At 28 lbs it is extremly hard to snap them unless over torqued.

I took mine apart and reused them with no issues.....twice already....and fixin to take them apart again....
Mine was actually close to the 28lbs torque spec...
I didnt use the loctite....I almost did.....but as lond as the barrel and lip are sealed correctly, you will be fine...
