Opinions JL Audio 13TW5

Most people know that the Y33 has limited trunk space due to the fuel tank behind the back seat.  With air it even makes the space even more limited.   I was thinking of running (1) 13TW5 w/ JL Audio 750/1 HD.  I was even considering running (2) 750/1 and (3) 13TW5..? Overkill??? I already have  (1) 13TW5 (1) 750/1 (1) 600/4 so switching audio is not an option.


Thoughts......

Aren't there subs that are flat for those who are limited on space?  I know kicker makes them.  The mod -NisAznMonk knows more about it.

Yes its the shallow mount.  The word i got is they hit like the W6.  I saw some vids on youtube but wanted to see if anyone had any hands or ears on experience.

w6 version 1 or 2?? LOL  I have the w6v1 and it barely hits at all.  I'm trying to get rid of it.

im pretty sure u 2 are having 2 different conversations.  the tw5 is a shallow mount sub for people with limited space.  i dont know if they sound like the w6 but ive heard great reviews about them.

I have quite a bit of exp with them. They are based off the w6v2 as far sound quality but not as much output and as far as shallow woofers go they sound better and handle more power than any other shallow woofer i've heard. (Rockford,Memphis,Pioneer,Kicker or Kenwood) Have any of you heard the JL Audio demo mustang they built for CES? It has 3 of them in the rear deck and sounds great

any idea of what is being run in the car.  I see (1) 750/1 and I see 3 TW5's but whats the other amp? I suppose its a 600/4 for the Highs and Mids which would mean he is pushing 3 subs with the 750/1

if hes running them IB on the rear deck, then hes pushing them to their limits with that 750.  IB=waaaaay more efficient.

RMS is 600  on the TW5 whats IB?

oddly i read the articale and he has (2) 600/4 hd so he is only running about 200W per sub

if hes running them off the rear deck with no enclosure attatched, hes basically using the entire trunk as an enclosure, which is infinite baffle or open air as is called alot.  when a sub is in a larger enclosure, they are more efficient and can reach their limits using less power.  

as an example, in my fathers basement, we have 4 15" subwoofers mounted to the wall, essentially using the adjacent room as the enclosure.  the subs are soundsplinter RL-P's and are rated to take a ton of power, but when used in an IB configuration, they require much less.  we have around 200 going to each sub and they produce HUGE bass.

the enclosure is sealed, im guessing by the subs being so close it would produce quaility sounds ..the write up only mentions the clean sweep and a audio control DGT two channel digital EQ which would only be necessary because its being run off the syock head unit.

All in all I was thinking of running (3) amps but if i can run the 750/1 to (2) 13 tw5's and still produce good sound...it would be a go for me

so they are in an enclosure.  that seems right as i never heard these were a good candidate for IB usage.  2 13" subs on one 750 watt amp will typically get loud and sound good doing it, depending on the quality of the box of course.  i think an amp per sub may be a bit overkill.

kicker had an edition of free air subs you could use your trunk and just put them on a plexi glass and no enclosure was needed they were made for that but i think they got discontinued .

im thinking  (2) 750/1 and (3) 13TW5 or simple setup (1) 750/1 (2) 13TW5

those amps bridged make 500 or better bridged which would make those subs receiving 1500 watts of real power total

No sir 1 600/4 to 2 subs bridged and half of the other bridged to run the third sub this car only has front stage

ok about 900 to 3 subs....so i will be ok with the 375 to each sub

I just did this in a Escalade for a customer it sounds great

those are great subs. i love using them in spare tire well enclosures. in fact i contemplated a 13tw5 for my lex but dont have the funding yet to make any decisions.
 
if u did 2 of these i would do it off a 1000/1 if u have room to mount it. i personally would put em up against the back of the trunk in a 3" deep box. u will save lots of space.. stilll have a spare tire and it will sound great.
 
 
oh and for the record the jl 13tw5 is the BEST free air sub i've heard. i've only heard the rockford fostgate, pioneer and kenwood subs. we even use the 10w1 sometimes in truck boxes.. but the 13tw5 is the best on the market as far as im concerned.
the only thing i would say is u gotta make sure your box is extremely rigid and doesnt move or vibrate. it has to be bolted to the car!!! this sub has very little excursion BUT does put out a LOT of output if you can mount and dampen the box properly.
when we demo this sub for customers i have to stand on the box in the sound room otherwise the sub rattles the box across the floor.
 
go for it. where are u tryin to mount the sub and what do you want the finished product to look like?

i have the HC1800 Kinetik and the HC1400 but I'm going to test fit the hc3800 for a more clean set up

amp rack will be against the back wall

Full custom trunk so everything will be bolted down and secure

oh sounds nice and those C5s are amazing speakers!

Very nice setup bro... alex is a awesome installer.

im 100% happy with the work...alex out did himself and (2) 13TW5 beat down the block, clean and crisp
