help w/ ins coilovers

hey guys,

need some input please, the pic is of the right front coilover, to adjust the camber plate, do i jus unscrew those 4 silver bolts and move it? there seem to be 2 holes inbetween those silver bolts

can i do this while the wheel is off? also, should the other side be a mirror match b/c right now they are both in the same position

also, these are suppose to be damper adjustable, do i turn that large nut to adjust it? only on the rear coilovers do i see a knob to be adjusted with an allen wrench

thanks

Yes you loosen the 4 silver screws to adjust the camber. The spare holes in the camber top are for the screws, you can move them closer together so you can get more adjustment, they dont need to be far away from each other like you have them.

camber usually isnt the same left to right because it is adjusted according to the slant on the roads for water run-off. so normally they;re different one side to the other so it tracks straight on a slanted road, but for looks and for fitment people normally do even camber both sides.

its better to do the adjustemnt with the wheel off since the weight is off the suspension and it will move very easily. sometimes it is too tight and hard to move with the wheel on. best to take it off, adjust, slip it back on.

i am unsure on the damper adjustment, what coilovers are they? i have insurance group and my damper adjust is a clickable knob on the top middle of the top and you simply turn it by hand. some others you adjust from the bottom. i am not sure about yours, i wouldnt have thought they are adjustable if they only have the centre nut since thats just the main nut generally holding the top joint together. maybe take a shot from a different angle though so we can see as you may be right.

hey thanks for the reply,

ya mine are insurance coilovers too for a q45 2000, hmm you mean under the knuckle? there is no adjustment knob

ya on my rears it has that std knob that adjusts w/ the allen wrench

so what happens if i tighten that nut down more? just tightens up the top hat?

thanks, i'll try to get some other pics but i've seen no other way cept if that nut locks as you tighten

if i remember correctly (and i'm not sure if you can quote me, since i slapped my c/o's on without adjusting damping), the damping is adjusted from underneath on the insurance c/o for y33. if i remember correctly, in the packaging, you should've found 2 longer L-shaped allen keys. the long end of the key fits into the end of the shock, which is recessed underneath the spindle.

so essentially, there's no knob for front damping adjustment -- you'll have to use those little keys they sent :(

hmm, looking at the instructions there is a picture showing adjustment at the bottom though i didnt see any allen wrenches in the box, i'll have to look again

dam that is goin to be a pain to adjust having to take the wheel off everytime

so what happens if i tighten that top nut, it doesnt look fully on, did you touch it when you installed or left it alone?

thanks guys

the top nut is what's holding the shaft of the shock to the camber plate. i left it alone, but if you're worried about it, take an air ratchet and torque it down some more. as long as you're not getting weird knocking while driving, i'd say you're fine.

you also don't have to take off the wheel to adjust the damping -- i would probably jack the car up, put some stands, and crawl under the car to adjust it.
