modifying newer previa?

i am for sure i am going to buy a previa, but finding one seems to be a bit harder than i thought! haha. so, i have a question about the different years of previas available here in the us. 
 
at first, i was planning to get a 91-93 non-s/c just because it would be an older car that would be cheaper on insurance and not have many of the newer electronics that i would have to worry about. plus, no worries about the premium gas for the s/c. 
 
but now, i found a pretty decent deal for just about $2800 for a 97 awd s/c with leather seats, and captains chairs. now, im rethinking it, and thinking about hopping on it. do you think i should get it? i remember reading somewhere that the newer ones were harder to modify in someways, but i dont remember where i read it since i have been on so many different forums and reading so many different articles and such. what are the major problems associated with modifying the newer previas? any input would be very greatful and helpful! thanks!

I did work on both.. there the same.. just that under the dash the newer ones have more reinforcments that makes it more of a bitch to get to the bolts holding the struts.. 
 
Dont get the the SC ones .. there known for blowing Eng.. ask Yoshi he went through that issues.. and ended up getting another Previa to mod..

:biggthumpup: Cosmetically, the 94-97 have a better looking front bumper but removing the front struts will be a bitch to remove. On the other hand, 91-93 have an easier access point. 

I never recommend the SC previas. Has alot of problems. 

Also, please find out if the owner kept up with maintenance. And what is the details on $2800? mileage etc.

thanks! okay..so i guess i will stay clear of the s/c ones..and prefer the older ones. as for the mileage on it..it has about 160k on it..but since all these problems are available..i guess i wont be getting it..thanks! now to continue looking....

and oh yea..when did they start adding more reinforcements? so i know what years to steer clear from..should i just stick to the 91-93s?

oh yea..i saw that one..id rather prefer one that was stock and modify it to my standards..than taking one from someone else and re-modifying it..plus i think thats a rwd..and im lookin for an awd..but thanks!

Any reason you prefer an awd over a rwd?  Also the awd version does not come with the dual sunroof from the factory.

AWD........just yet another component that could go wrong.  Keeping it "simple" is definately the way to go.  Besides not too sure how AWD would react to Staggard (sp) Wheels.  I guess you could always go with the same width and offsets all around.  Atleast then you would be able to rotate.

Also hold out for the Dual Sunroof/Captain Chair Set up..........I wish I did.  Good luck with your search.

are rebuilt SC engines an issue?

well..one reason im out for the awd is cuz so i can also have a car to drive in the snow..cuz right now i have a 92 lexus sc300 and that it no good in the snow..very bad! haha..so at least when i get this previa..i can have something i can raise and drive in the snow

as for the dual sunroof..its not a big priority to me..since it doesnt come factory on the awd..thats fine..i guess ill just stick to the plain roof. and as for the captains chairs..thats a mix for me..i have two different plans if i were to get either the captains chairs, or bench.

if i were to get the captains chairs..i will retain the carpet and just update everything...if i get the bench..i will remove the bench and put wood floors and make the back bench a hella roomy area. then i will convert the back bench either to two captains chairs..or covert a different bench which would have a pull down armrest in the center, similar to many of the sedans back seats, and have a pull out table from there. just a lil brief of what my plans are.

Yeah I hear you on the sunroof thing, since we live in Seattle we see more rainy cloudy days than bright sunny ones.

Sounds like you got some nice plans up your sleeve.  Looking forward to what you do after you find a suitable Egg candidate.

thanks! and yea..thats the hardest part i think..finding the right egg..i got big plans for it pretty much all laid out..that was just a lil teaser of what i'll do..i like to keep the rest a big surprise til it actually happens..i didnt realize it would be this hard to find a previa when i initially started!
