ls400 question

http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/1222523170.html

i found this ls400 near me for about 500 dollars, i got a quote from a reputable tranny shop for a thousand minus a student discount to rebuild the original transmission... i spoke with the owner he was completely honest in how he described the car, told me that it runs, and that some body panels such as the front end were replaced, due to a minor accident....now this ad has been up for several weeks and everytime i check back it always catches my eye....especially when i am not looking for it, im just wondering if it would be a good project to invest in, because the Q in the same condition would be close to destroyed or just out of my range right about now.... anyone with a mechanical history or knowledge of the ls400 drivetrain please add some input

Seems like they interior and exterior will require a lot of attention. Ask him where he got his tranny rebuild quote. $600 is stupid cheap for an auto trans rebuild. Other than that I think $700 is pretty reasonable if you're willing to put in the work on the rest.

he mentions that a rebuilt tranny goes for 600 but even then i would have to have it installed for an extra price more than likely, the shop can give me a warranty on parts and labor
