Death of Autotune (D.O.A)

Haven't Seen anything on this yet so:

Read an interesting article about the creator of Autotune and his impression of the message being sent by the artist known as Jay-Z. While I understand what the message's meaning is, it seems like a large population of folks are misconstruing the meaning. New forms of music making is inevitable but it seems outrageous all you hear is robotic voices dominating the airwaves.

As if this was not enough you now have the lines that were clearly drawn between hip-hop/rap and RnB being blurred. Once noted as so called rappers are singing songs and thier own hooks. In my humble opinion, pick one or the other and stop confusing folks.

Jay-Z simply says too many rappers are singing and sounded like T-pain. No beef with the softaware itself but the intended purposes wasn't meant to make talented singers of whack rappers. Pitch correction software, not instant RnB hit maker software.

Thoughts?

dont even get me started.....
I think the hole radio play is a government plot to dumb down the masses....they only play music that degrades women , and has a zero positive message unless popping cyrstal and rolling on dubs is what you want to do.....There are alot of great hip-hop artist out there with good music and they get zero radio play....I've boycotted radio play for some time now i even went as far as shaving my antenna off....I believe hip-hop is dead and this is the beginning of the end for all......i belive the radio host playing this rubish dont even listen to once the push play , they put there i-pod on and listen to the good stuff....
I could go on this for a min...and t-pain is garb....believe me make your money playboy no hate over here...but wake up and help the masses that are listen to the music...your killing the youth....(venting over)

yeah...I think the state of "hip hop" is in serious disarray! Sick beats with wack ass lyrics all for the sake of getting a song on the radio! True hip hop didnt give a shit if it was played on the radio or not because their fans would still follow and find them. They were the soundtracks of life and the streets. Not this high society commercial bull shit. And I swear if one more person says Lil Wayne is hip hop or hip hops best I am gonna fucking scream! Jay-Z has a great point in this song and it reminds me of Jay-Z in the Reasonable Doubt erra!

I mean, we really need to get rid of the current crop of wannabe hip hop artists. The songs are retarded..I mean, I don't give a ish if you got plenty money (and I don't need to hear you say it 1,000,000 times during a song either..I mean come on?!). There's so many no talent assclowns these days it's not even funny. What's worse is the fact that people are apparently listening to this crap? We are making society increasingly ignorant...amazing.

Good! when he's done there he can come clean my floors! He is wack.

I agree that Hip Hop needs an overhaul! The days of hearing a new song on the radio and actually being moved to want to dance, or learn the lyrics are gone! Think back to the old school hits...I am sure most of us can remember the words to Bonita Applebum or Scenario...hell SUMMER TIME by Fresh Prince! Now think of the bullshit on the radio now...without having to look up the words how much of the songs can you recite!? Probably not much for the simple fact that it either sucks so bad you dont want to, or is so damn incoherant and mush mouthed that you CANT understand it! *cough* LIL LAME *cough*

T-Pain actually used to be a rapper. I can't remember the song but it was popular in the south. I am sick of hearing T-pain autotune it up on EVERY single thing he touches. But point being why are rappers using autotune. You don't need pitch correction in rap, and what the hell are you doing that you need pitch correction? It's obviously not rapping so why call your self a rapper or hip-hop artist.

Really the only other people are the masses that support these artist. And the funny thing is if you argue with a supporter of these artist they only take two arguements

1. They are rich and you are hating cause you don't have as much money. (really ridiculous)
2. They are attractive and i don't care what they are talking about cause they are so fine. (ah ignorance is bliss)

YES! I was actually jamming that shit in the ride today and people were looking at me like they forgot what old school was all about. Then, once they had a second or two to comprehend what they were hearing, they started jamming with me.

I hate the fact that everyone is trying to use the AutoTune feature in every song, hell, people that come to record at our studio all want to use the AutoTune feature on our mixboard and the funny thing is a lot of them STILL sound like crap with it utilized.

T-Pain got old with the AutoTune usage but he used it to his advantage and, I have to admit, did a damn good job doing it and he does make some pretty nice beats. But when everyone else does it it gets old, and fast. For example, I love Jamie Foxx's music but man, when he first came out with "Blame It" I didn't know if it was T-Pain or what. It was a complete disappointment to hear Jamie Foxx utilize AutoTune, especially when he doesn't even need it.

And I don't care for Lil Wayne or his lyrics BUT...there are a COUPLE songs that ARE catchy, I can't lie about that. Forgive me but since my niche lies in music composition/beat production I think I'm listening more to the music/beat itself and not the actual lyrics...except for "Every Girl"...I feel so guilty...lol

The only thing I can say is that the Electronica/Techno genre is definitely fusing with Hip-Hop...er, MAINSTREAM Hip-Hop.

But I do find one thing funny. Although Jay-Z is obviously dissing the usage of AutoTune, hasn't his artist, Kanye West, used it quite often? *shrug*

Exactly, many artists are using it cause it is the thing to do not cause they need it. Well RnB artists that is.

I have disconnected eith the lyrica aspect of rap for a while now and mainly have interest in the production sound of songs myself. It seems that is where most talent lies anyway. Especially if you can make artists out of soulja boy, wayne, new kids, any many other talentless contributers.

The only thing I can say is that the Electronica/Techno genre is definitely fusing with Hip-Hop...er, MAINSTREAM Hip-Hop.
I noticed that too with youngbloodz and lil jon, there seems to be alot of techno and trance synths beings used especially coming from the south.

But I do find one thing funny. Although Jay-Z is obviously dissing the usage of AutoTune, hasn't his artist, Kanye West, used it quite often? *shrug*

I cant get into trance and techno. While I love the beats of some songs...the monotony of a 15+ minute song just gets on my nerves! LOL. I have since opened up to rock..well..metal...actually not sure what to classify it as. I am likeing mainstream rock I guess because its new to me for the most part. I guess that is how mainstream rap and hip hop are popular though. It is new to the people that listen to it...if they listened to the classic they might not ever listen to Soulja Boy or think Lil Wayne is the best out. I am probably one of the pople we are discussing as buyin into the crap...just in the rock scene...so I guess its all relative.

Soulja Boy is THE biggest joke. I can't even stress the word "THE" enough to describe how lame that little shit is.

About Lil Wayne. The only thing I can favor with him on is his lyrical deliverance. It's the way his words are told, the way he delivers it to you. It's catchy.
Soulja Boy is THE biggest joke. I can't even stress the word "THE" enough to describe how lame that little shit is.

About Lil Wayne. The only thing I can favor with him on is his lyrical deliverance. It's the way his words are told, the way he delivers it to you. It's catchy.
i hate solja boy to!!!......

Wow, I just goggled Auto Tune and this is the shit I hate about pop music these days. I try to point it out to my friends, but none of them notice it in the vocals. Its always bugged me and they always play that crap in clubs.
