cutting my Y33 springs

Ok I know it might be frowned apon but I what to cut my stock springs to drop my car I just got my wheels and I have to wait 2 months on my coilovers and I really want to rock my wheels now so the question is how many coils should I cut to give it a nice stance on some 19's on a 99 q45 ?

oh man, cutting springs is very unreliable... especially if you want each side the same.  to tell you the truth you should really just wait it out man. have some patience...

just bite the bullet and wait. i know i did, for close to two years while i was saving cash for coils + wheels, haha =P

dont do it...you'll only hate it later.....believe me my back has never been the same...you can find good deals on coils..

Just wait for a deal to come available. I found springs for 150, maybe you should just see if you can get a hand me down from another member. If you cut the springs it is likely to be bouncy. in fact i saw this Mitsubishi eclipse the other day in omaha that looked like it had hydro's, nope just cut his springs and was fu"""d. I asked him at a stoplight, it was kind of a jack ass move to ask but you should have seen this thing bounce. I think he could have had three wheel motion LOL

Sounds like he's already got coilovers coming, but just wants to cut the OE to drive it low till the C/O's arrive.  In any case, if you do cut them, cut from the TOP and NOT from the bottom as the bottom of the spring gets wound tighter to fit the perch and if you cut from the bottom you run the risk the springs will fall off which would suck big time.

If you really know your wheel fitment, it may not work out so well for your tires or j-flanges, as the spring rates will way too low to keep the car off of them.

I could tell and show you a decent example for a G50... but a good guess will be to put your new wheels on. Put the car back on the ground. Measure how much fender gap you want to remove. Take that same measurement from the top of your spring going down. Measure how much travel is left in your shock while your down there and compare that to how much you want to drop your car. Measure from the top down to mark and cut your coil. Do this to one front and one rear Then use those to make an exact matching cut to the other front and rear spring. The idea is to put the car just at the bump stop so that there really isn't much compression left in your suspension in order to help keep your front fenders and tires separated in bumpy corners. If you're not right at the bump stop your front tires and fenders might be fighting to the death in bumpy corners. if you shocks are blown its going to suck really bad, not that its going to be good anyway but a month or two is cool.

I'm going through a local shop here in town and the supplier told him that there is a 2 month backorder on the coilovers 
and I just want to say thanx to everyone that had an informative comment it looks like I will wjust wait the 2 months
