clear bra help.

ive had my car about 2 years now. when i bought the car it had a clear bra, i really wanted to take it off right away, but when i bought my car i was working maybe 100 miles round trip on the hwy so i figured id save myself a few rock chips and leave it. it worked really well. well now that im not working that far away from home, i decided to take it off...i guess i waited far too long cause now i cant get the bulk of it off. the sides and front came off easy, but the top of the hood (prolly less than a 1/4 way up) is cracked and very brittle. its just clear 3m vinyl from what i understand. anyone have any idea how i can take this off without sitting there with a heatgun and taking off one very small chip at a time?

I would venture to guess you could use a plastic razor to carefully take it off with the assistance of ample quick detailer. Just be ready to buff afterwards as it will leave some minor scratching behind.

use a steamer. if you know anybody with a jiffy they are the best to use.

i was thinking some kinda glass cleaner with ammonia i know it takes tint off regular windows best thing to do is email 3m and see what they recommend.

ok i did some research for you. steamer or heatgun and scrape at it with plastic razor blades.

or if you have a vinyl removing wheel you can use that on metal surfaces.  it can burn and warp bumper covers and mirrors though. u attach it to a high speed buffer.

heres a couple of example why i dont like paint protection film yet.  ill wait till they get it dialed in.

^I think it's like anything else...I have had mine for a year and it still looks great! I also wash and wax my car religiously once a week including the clear bra :biggthumpup:

def gonna try that vinyl removing wheel. my clear bra looks like that truck, except my car is black. man i hate this ish. i knew i shoulda took it off sooner. :pat:

^ If your car is black I would stay away from the vinyl removing wheel. I have seen it WRECK the paint on a conquest by someone who did not know what they were doing.  Plastic razor blades can still scratch paint too if you push too hard.

[b]Steamer[/b] is your best bet by far.  Work in one by one foot squares going up and down and back and forth for like 60 seconds.  It will peel right off.  There is a liquid you can use to remove window tint, if you spray it on first then wave the steamer over it you should be solid.  Do it outside if you can the adhesive smells absolutely horrible when it gets hot and wet.

thanks for the tip. i was going to have my friend do it for me since hes an experienced body man. but i really dont wanna have to pay to have it painted if he messes it up. i shoulda just taken it off when i got the car lol.

I don't mean to offend anyone who has it or is planning to run it but I am really against this stuff.
 
First off, it takes away from the gloss of the vehicle. It is not as bad on silver and gold cars but on just about every other color, it is noticable. Its like your paying money to keep your bumper free of rock chips but you are taking away from the appearance of it at the same time. Whats the point? I think having to repaint a bumper once a year isnt that bad.

I agree with u! I have repainted my nose on my car evry year for the same reason. I have to admit that i have seen some more recent installations of the clear bra that have been a lot less noticeable. I am still considering it. I wasn't eve aware that you could remove these things without taking off the paint
