School me on this W124 - 91 Mercedes 320CE
So I stumbed across this Benz on the weekend in my area. It's an import from Japan and even has some Leons on it. It has an 3.2L inline 6, 140,000 kms. I may go look at this evening.
What do you guys think of this deal? Anything I should look out for?

Dude that car is the SHIT! If you can get that i suggest u get it because i know you will love it. I used to have a 89' 300E and my car was fast stock. The car is a sleeper i tell ya... whenever im on the highway cruising or flooring it.. the car will go. Its a good investment and the gas milage isnt all that bad my car gets 22-27mpg. And for that price the luxury interior is very nice. But if you thinking about buying it.. just buy it!

Those old coupes are gangster. I would drive around with all the windows down all day with the heat blasting if needed.
Those things are built like tanks. I seen a special on some show where they put it through all types of crazy challenges and the car kept running. They threw granades in there, flattened it with a monster truck, drove it through a 3ft puddle, etc. The car didnt miss a beat. I am sure it is on youtube somewhere

Thanks guys. Bullet proof is key. I did read they have double thick glass!
I always liked the look of these coupes. I'll take it for a spin tonight and see how I like it. I'd like to get it for around $4500 so we will see what happens.
Cheers

Gangster! Definitely retro.
Just got back from driving the car. Nice guy. 3rd owner in Canada. Who knows how many in Japan ha. He owned it a 1yr and 1/2 and is a carpenter. Construction is slowing a lot here and he said he has been trying to sell it for a few months.
This thing looks really timeless. Has the euro spec headlights (all clear) and the tails are smoked. Has functional sidemarkers. He put in a new JVC deck and a some dub 6x9s with a custom deck in the rear. These cars had 4" speakers all around stock?! Has a Minidisc player from Japan and an MSD external coil which is interesting.
This car has some character. Wipers on the headlights, single wiper on the windshield, pillarless windows by putting both down. I now see what widebodyQ was talking about! It has Leon Hardirtt Ritter 18x8 and 18x9 I think. 215/35/18 which is pretty small. Wheels have a lot of rash of course ha Stock wheels also included. Overall the body is in very good shape. The clear coat is faded on the roof though. A full detail would help.
Interior is not nearly as nice as the rear. It has no sunroof and cloth but the seats are in great shape. They probably stand up better than leather. You definitely feel like you are driving an older car from the steering wheel to the gauge cluster and dated climate control buttons.
So I think this car is cool on the outside and not as cool on the inside. Drives nice but needs an alignment. The rear ebrake seems to be sticking as well and is making a strange sound as I drive. Passenger mirror is really faded and needs replacement. So the car is rough around the edges but nothing major. Just needs love.
He said he would drop the price to $5500 and I said I was looking to do $4500. We are both gonna think about it. I repeated that I was trying to stay under $5k and he admitted its tough to sell a luxury car right now. I am gonna give it some thought.

Yep they are Ritters. You don't see many of these cars around! Definitely agree I just want to slam it. Maybe switch to green tint.
I am going to wait a few days and call him up and tell him that if he gets an alignment and fixes the ebrake spring I will do 4500 cash. Those are the only mechanical issues.
Thanks guys!

WOW what a fukn trip. my friend just scooped a 560 like this the other night. i want him to fix it up nice but he has a 740iL already. this thing is a daily tank. i think the 560's came with leather n sunroof stock cause it has both.
i was just thinking i havent seen one of these in the longest time and heres another one posted on vsc!
if you buy it post a bunch of pics and any info you come across please and ill do the same. gotta help my friend for the most part cause hes not that mechanically inclined.

Oh crazy! Is that 560 the same body style but with a V8? I know in Japan cloth is pretty common in luxury cars for some reason.
I will definitely post up better pics and more info if I pick it up.

The 560 is a different body style. Fairly larger than the E-coupes.

oh. hm. yeah i think it may be slightly different. i think its like a 560 sec or something. idk exactly but its a huge coupe like this with the same pillarless window design. ill find out more later and try to snap a pic or 2. im guessing the one u posted is more like a dated CLK and the one im talking about is a dated CL, kind of like the 95 S500 coupe?
<--not really a benz buff, obviously. benz's n bmw's use way too many numbers and letters in funny combinations for me to get them right. their chassis codes n model names give me headaches. i only know 95 and newer lol and it took me a bit to fully understand those too.
what always intrigued me is the use of 740iL and then 745Li im sure theres a reason but i cant figure out why the switch.

man those pics look really similar, im starting to think my friend is a dummy and has no idea what he bought :pat::slap: LOL
i saw it only for a few minutes but told him to bring it by my house for a detail so ill confirm then.
anyway i think u should stick to the offer of no more than 4500. explain to him how u could get a newer benz for dirt cheap or something. shit they got 2000 cl600's in the paper for 25k nowadays

It's funny but I actually was searching for an SL when I came across this one. They are pretty cheap here because there plenty coming in from Japan.
Ahh I saw a 560SEC yesterday, a little older and longer.
So how can I slam this 320CE? No coilovers available. Go UAS?

I had a 4-door 300E with stick *gasp* for 11 years. Car is built like a tank, never failed me even once and the engine is buttery smooth.

Excellent thanks! Reliability is my biggest concern. The owner put in 2 new front bilstein shocks recently.
I talked to him last night to have a second look and he is getting an alignment and the ebrake adjusted which are the only mechanical issues. I'll have another look with a friend this weekend. The eurospec grill, headlights, tails and Leons really make a huge difference on this car.

Ah I see! There is one I run by quite often. SEC is definitely longer.
The one I am looking at is in good shape. The only mechanical issues are it needs an alignment and ebrake adjustment that I mentioned earlier. The owner is getting it fixed up Wednesday but I am still nervous about the maintenance of such an old car.

That wide body is dope! I would suggest buying it if you can get it where you want it $ wise. I've owned quite a few older MBs and have found them to be bulletproof. I will say that if something goes expect to shell out some cash for parts, nothings cheap.
I have a AMG 5.6 4valve sitting here if you wanna do a swap... :)
