Hella Fail
I'm stumped boys, I'm at an impasse.
I'm tucking tire in the front and I can't turn. I'm sunk big time and it's not helping at this point, it's chewing up my fender really badly, undriveable. I don't want to raise the car but I found that if I raise it by just a few mm it'll be driveable. But I still don't know if I can go flush. I can't stretch the tires because the wheels are narrow (7" and 8"), and I've got the smallest tires I could find on there.

This wheel is 4mm more aggressive than my Viennas, and the tire isn't stretched (195/45 on a 7") I guess it was a couple mm lower or compressed or something and it caught an edge and flipped it. I could have avoided that by pressing the inside flush, that was totally my bad, but touching heavily was unavoidable regardless.
But even with my Viennas, the fitment is mm away from ruining the fender if the suspension compresses even a little, so it's barely driveable at all. What can I do? I really want to tuck in the front, and daily it, and if possible be flush.

If I cut it, it'll flip and get chewed up for sure. I need to make it smooth and pliable but resilient enough to hold its shape. I need rubber fenders.
I've been staring at front fitment on other cars on coilovers and it looks like they all have the fender lips angled outwards, which I could do with my fender roller, but I love the look of stock unmolested fenders too much, this car will look stupid with angled wheel openings.... I'm having a breakdown.

Roll fender flat and stretch the tire as much as you can. Don't turn the wheel when going up a driveway. Hit it at an angle going straight. Also set the coilover preload higher so the front doesn't compress that much.

The real inconvenient truth.... You must have stretched tyres to pull off flush :(
As you turn the wheel, the car should raise to the point where the stretched tyre just clears the fender...
Either that or just limit your turning.....

if you want flush and hot stance, then youll have to stretch tires, and roll/pull fenders. thats a guarantee. you can get flush and have wack stance, but being a member for so long im sure you know a majority of this stuff already. so make up your decision and go for it.
btw, you should gotten wider wheels all around, that is another major aspect that smaller cars forget about when pulling off sick fitment.

I think I'll just raise the car a few MM. It sucks, but I'll go for the happy medium rather than fail one thing miserably to do something else with mediocrity.
Maybe once I actually have money I'll get a brand new set of wheels made to specs that actually fit perfectly.

now that i think about it i had the same problem with my sc400 but my buddy took a pipe and rolled and flared the fuck out of it i chipped up some paint but that was solved by going to the Vietnamese nail shop and getting some fingernail polish that matched the paint
oh btw the sound of the fender bending made my stomach turn but it turned out ok

well it doesnt have to be that low to look good
I say a few mm up ( but still tuck tire) and paint the bottom blk lip you got on the front white.....giving it a lower illusion.

Damn... sorry to see this happen... Same thing happened to me when I was on springs...
I learned how to go around the block if a u-turn was necessary...
or Just drive in reverse (reasons why I put HIDs in my reverse light housings :saiyancrunks: )

Wider wheels =more camber to fit right?
My car is kinda small as well but I figured I could do 8 inches wide up front and run a 215/35 tire. But I don't think that tire size is small enough to stretch and after reading this thread I'm wondering if I shoulda just say screw traction and get an 8.5 wide with more camber upfront.

Last year i had 245's in the front of my car and it rubbed allll the time and i cracked my fender in three places. I just had this fixed yesterday so i see where u are coming from! I this year i kept the same 9.5+30 in the front with a set of 235 nankangs and a put a 15 mil spacer in the front to make it madd flush and now i cant go any lower! I could run a 225 in the front, but i tried that allready and im tired of bubbling tires evrry 2 weeks. Im about to reluctantly take off the 15 mil spacers and put on a 5mill and slam it again. I normally would b wanting to have the. Car 7mil higher and ride flush as opposed to lower and sunken in but this ride height is bothering me more and more evryyday. With your width and offset you dont have many options

I would recommend this. As you can see in my pics I still have a lot of room for a wider wheel - I probably could run a 9" with a 205 and it would be flush and clear the fender at the same time. The downside is the camber as you say, but -4.5 (what I'm at there) isn't really that bad, in fact it looks pretty cool...

The most camber I wanna run is -5 so if I can do that with 9 wide upfront I may go for that I'm just waiting on Fred to get back to me on how to measure my wheel wells to see how wide I can go.

no offense man, but just give up trying to make this car vipstyled. if you got some type of attachment to it, then just set it up as a practical daily and focus all efforts on a better car to represent luxury. no matter how many post you have its sometimes hard to take your critisizm when you havent produced much of a product that resembles the style yourself.
and this can go to anyone else who talks the talk but cant walk the walk. you all know who you are.

Rolled fenders are required and a pull helps a lot, otherwise more caster, more stretch, increase spring rates or increase sway bar thickness.
what kind of caster can you get in front wheel drive cars anyway?

A few MM is nothing, just raise it a bit, and roll the fenders flush as possible. On my old Civic (comparisons sake, it's the same class car, prolly the same quality metal) after rolling the fenders, eventually they "flared" out just by being rubbed by the tires when turning and they never flipped like that. If the metal is thin like on the Civic's it should work out.

Well, it is fair what he's saying. I probably had told him he was on the wrong track at some point, if he was aiming for Vip. Personally I've learned so much from when I started, and I remember back then I was so sure I could make a Protege that could pass for a Vip car, but then I realized that wasn't really what I wanted - to be stuck under one label. I love being able to take off a set of Vienna Dish with stretched tire, and throw on some fat Azenis on lightweight wheels, take the car to the track, then come home and go cruising and have the car look good all the way. That's what really makes me happy.
So I don't want to have any bad blood here, if I offended you earlier Aftermath, I apologize. I'm pretty sure I've been more than impressed with your car since. I went back to that thread and I see what happened. I think that we can both agree that if you had gone with 20x7.5 hella sunk like you initially planned it would have turned out as nice as it is now =p
In other news, I "fixed" the fender lip for now, by bending it back and rolling it as flat as possible. It's still crinkly though so I'll just go get a fresh one at the wrecker and re-do the whole thing.
I rolled the other fender some more and gave it a slight angle outwards that helped with clearance enormously. I think I can live with even a little bit more outwards angle if it stays subtle, which means I may be able to lower the car back down.
Part Shop Max fender roller ftw!!!
There will be big things happening in the rear fitment department as well. Due to the crap ass design of the Mazda quarter panel, the inner wheel well is nearly horizontal right at the opening, which means no room to tuck, regardless of flushness. Solution? REMOVE!! haha.
Inner wheel well radius, coming to a 323 near you =)

my GS rubs pretty bad on the daily up and down my driveway with 9 +27 and 235/35s but i dont want to go down to 225/35 and im already sunk so i dont want mroe camber. so i just live with it..lucky the guards are rolled from factory and i got them rolled even more, so the tyre cant 'grab' it just rubs over the fender edge.
