Just remember that most of Japan rides on coilovers. It is just the U.S. culture that making it seem like air suspension is the way to go.

I'm a little bit biased but I liked it. It began from Hawaii to Japan. Then the Philippines got mentioned like 4-5 times.:biggthumpup:

Probably because its not really all about having perfect fitment in Japan anymore. You see lots of guys with sunken offsets, or good offsets but tucked hardcore.
 
The 'fender between lip and sidewall' look is mainly a drifter/euro trend now
 
In Japan it seems being low is more important than having the 'perfect offsets'

so true...what is that "t" word again?..i make um flush just enough to tuck  ...those guys that have crazy wheel fitment that sit on the fender...yeah it look nice when you park...but during the cruise you can't ride as low.

tsuraichi = flush

kai media came out to one of our cruises to video tape a segment for their show on a local channel here in hawaii... they wanted to show one of the many local car scenes here... as for the interview, it was so random... i was supposed to be interviewed as well but i dug out and ucf11mang was left by himself to do the interview so you can see how nevous he was...

Well, yes and no; the reason you could ride that low in Japan with coilovers is because of the quality of the roads over there; [I]they dont need air sus[/I].  I do agree that the mentality about air suspension is a bit off here in the US but some people DO NEED air.

Me and damicci [I](I include him in my argument because we have discussed this millions of times) [/I]can tell you that here in Tucson AIR IS THE WAY TO GO. Not because it is a status thing or some 'baller-heavy-hitter-it aint VIP if it doesn't have air' type of thing... it is by the simple fact that our roads are CRAP. We both had coilovers (I still do) and our cars, kits and wheels have taken a horrible beating trying to ride low. Heck, I had to repair his bumper once because a lil piece of wood was in a ditch in a certain angle and ripped a huge hole in his front bumper.

And I tell you if I didn't needed air I wouldnt get it. I am happy with my coilovers but would be much happier (and lower) if I get air just for the piece of mind that my kit and wheels would not get beat in a fck pothole. 

Now about the video... man ...shows you what america does with foreing concepts: makes it a trend and adds more 'cowbell' to make it a product and in the end make money. Commercialization of a subculture, just like how they ruined drifting. The image the US has of VIP Style is that all VIP ppl in the mags are yakuzas and live in huge mansions and have 4 or 5 cars of these and change wheels every 3 weeks... which we know it is completly wrong... It just saddens me how many people have this type of concept; all i can do is come back here and rant about it among people of like minds I guess... :shrughs;

To be honest i dont think its the roads as much as it is the patience of other Japanese drivers and lenience of police. The roads i saw there were no walk in the park. These vip guys scrape all over the place and drive 20km/h on side roads, 60-80km/h on highways.
 
Here in Australia our roads arent that much worse; but if we were that low we would be defected off the road by the first police car we drove past. We would have people beeping and throwing stuff at you as they overtake you instead of waiting patiently in lines up to 200m behind a very low vip car.

Yeah I have seen my share of terrible roads in japan but there also not many steep gradients unless your going into a parking garage. I remember driving a honda life up one thinking it was going to stall out b/c it had no power trying to get up this hill to get in the garage. Full accelerator and all, but no go.
