Air Intake / exhaust for Y34 (2003 M45)?
anyone make an intake or exhaust for a 2003 m45? whats the inlet on the stock intake? if I was to purchase a filter with a heat shield.... exhaust, was leaning more towards a muffler only. any direct links to where I can get a muffler?

DUDE, THERE ARENT ANY. You will see many forums discussing this same topic and most people just put in a K&N filter, but there is mixed feelings about K&N saying that is too oiley and messes up ur MAF. I personally have no problems with it. As far as exhaust go, theres only 2 kinds. Expensive and Expensive.

It's a possibility but the 2002-2004 Q45 GF50 Trust Airinx might work. Supposedly the engines are the same but that doesn't mean the MAF is the same. You can take the risk and try getting that. I have an Airinx on my 02 Q45 intake and it fit perfectly. Even down to the brackets and the plastic hole I drilled. The intake might fit but the brackets might not...but that isn't a problem really since you can just fab up your own or just let it hang. On mine it didn't really need it but I put it on anyways. It's all up to the adapter. If the adapter works on your MAF then thats all it is really needed.
I didn't notice any gains because you just don't feel 2-4whp gain from my butt dyno...especially when you already have 340hp. The sound is noticeable but only on hard acceleration or if you blip the throttle. Honestly it looks strange since the stock Q has engine covers all over the place and when you install it you lose the mounting points for the cover that sits over the intake. It's just alot of empty space with a small sponge yellow filter. I mainly did it to increase fuel efficiency which also I didn't notice anything.
Right now I'm running my car without the rear muffler. Sounds actually pretty good. Not loud at all. Sounds like a stock truck and here nothing at highway speeds/cruising.

Well... there are a coupe of guys on Nico that use the K&N and claim all is well, but personally.......I'd pass on it. There are a few with custom exhaust. It can be done. I heard NMGoodthing's exhaust in person and WOW.

i removed the extra intake resonator box thing and it seemed to help. kind of acts like a cold air intake without any forced induction though. gotta buy one of those ebay diy intake kits so i can use one of their short straight pipes, an elbow, and the filter so it directs it up towards the airbox better. (i know those things are ugly but itll be tucked up behind the bumper, and u cant see it from the engine bay either)
oh i have a k&n and can safely say that you should save your money and buy a WIX brand filter and with the extra money upgrade to some amsoil.
i wish i could capture a clip of how my car sounds but my cameras microphone is junk. having no rear muffler sounds way better than stock. i also took out the resonator since it was in the middle of the car and dragged on speed bumps. removing that makes your car have a slight resonating howl like a g37 from around 2000-3000 rpm. can get annoying on long inclines because of the constant droning. thinking about putting in some CC insert baffles to combat the noise. i wish the VQ sounding growl continued up to the higher rpms, it would sound a lot cooler. maybe if you remove the 2 secondary mufflers near the differential? who knows. did anyone remove all of the above?

I am talking about a true cold air intake not some ricey short arm that breaths any air inside the engine bay .
Full 3 inch mandrel bent polished aluminum .

people dont know these things offhand dude, you arent talking about a civic here. only person that might know those engine specs would be the only guy with a modded vk45 on the net lmao. you own one why dont you take it apart and do measurements its not that hard.
if performance info isnt available on nico or freshalloy then you are SOL and JWF til you do it yourself. there are few people here with modded engines let alone this particular engine.
FWIW i vaguely remember the MAF being 92mm. anyway disconnect it and find out. and while youre at it poke around and see how the system works and maybe youll rethink your approach. the resonator part of the intake that i posted could be modded to shove a decent amount of cool air to the stock box.

Good to know about the resonator. marksport confirms it. I was going to rip it out since mine is cracked but I'll try to get an aftermarket resonator.
Might as well go custom for intake and exhaust. Jaynick has the Mode Parfume axle back aka 2 pipes with tips on them :D

Any J-Spec exhaust for the Ced/Glo will have to be modded. The rear section on the M45 has a built in collector that brings the 2 exhaust sides together. J-Spec mufflers only have one inlet, so you have to do a custom Y-pipe to bring the 2 sides together into one inlet of the J-Spec rear section.

nice option or you can do what i did Y pipe from the cats into 3 INC stainless custom bend high flow res.. all the way to the JP muffler ...cost a few bucks but almost a life time of the car.. increased fuel milage i might add..from 19 to 20 to 24 to 26 on HWY@ 99km ..sounds krazy but its true

Sorry for the thread dig, but I'm doing some I/E work on my Y34 and I have a question. When you went to the 3", did you go with a single back from from the y-pipe? I'm looking at singles and duals for the car but I want to keep it in the stock location and it seems a little superfluous to have all those bends on the passenger side just to run duals back from the y.

Do what i did .. cut from where the cats meet at the first connection straight pipe all the way to the rear muffler which will have dual tips .. Simple /clean

Mind sharing your muffler specs? How's the sound inside the car?

Do this:
Magnaflow dual in/out SS small muffler, Magnaflow double wall slash cut tips, dual pipes all the way back from the cats and an equalizer pipe to balance everything out. Sound is phenomenal, doesn't drone at any speed or RPM. Not loud in cabin, but makes you want to roll windows down so you can listen to it. Nice, deep, throaty V8 sound.
You're welcome.

LOL! I couldn't quote who I was responding to. I can see running a single 3" but a dual 3" seems a little like overkill. Dual 2.5" would be good and I've also considered electric cutouts for the stock exhaust so I can control the sound.
