Is there such thing as VIP Sport? VIP 'Sport' Themed Car? Let's Discuss!

The discussion of this topic started like this:

Damicci came back from Japan on February and brought back 2 mags: VIP Style (April 09) and VIPCAR vol. 157. On both magazines we noticed that there was more than one featured car that was very borderline Sport Styled (actually on page 220 of VIPCAR there is a car with –get this- a HUGE CF spoiler!).
Another thing we noticed is that many companies like K-Break, Aimgain, Moda Parfume and such are utilizing cues from sport car parts such as CF Hoods, vented hoods, mildly sporty aero kits, some optional color on new wheels and also the use of Work Meisters or SSR Professors on VIP Styled cars.

Now, give me your honest opinion on where the line gets drawn: when does a car stops being VIP Styled when sporty cues are included in the build?

What would you consider the car on my sig?

*What do I consider it? Sport styled with VIP cues. The interior will be a bit more calssy even tough I will be using sport reclinable seats but the essence of a VIP car will be there: ambience lights, system air sus (just because I need it in Tucson), etc... oh yes, my car will look like that!*

I dunno, but FLS = Falk Luxury Sports. I've always believed you can blend luxury and sports. And IMO every single VIP Styled car has sporty cues weather subtle or obvious. You can't tell me a set of BBS LM's which are basically racing wheels, no matter whic car you put it on, even a Toyota Century for example, isn't sporty: they're fricking racing wheels, it doesn't get any sportier than that.

I would say the GS in your sig is VIP Style, it has more obvious sporty cues in the intercooler and the wheel choice, but still VIP.
But hey, that's just me.

Luxury is getting sportier all around the globe IMO. Look at the new Eclass. It looks really sporty. The AMG models are more aggressive then ever with side bumper vents, sculpted hoods etc.

Even Jaguar has made the shift. Look at the new XJ. Times are changing. Body lines on cars are changing. VIP tunning for a good part of this decade has been about making older cars look like modern Euro cars.

If Lorinser does something crazy, it is automatically accepted in the VIP community. If Brabus puts 6 vents on the hood of a CLS, Mode Parfume does the same to the F50 and others soon follow on LS400/430's. If Carlson, does a two tone paint job as their signiture for their aigner line, you better believe cars are going to follow (like that sick LS430 with the 2 sets of LS600HL projectors).

Thats my explanation

I was trying to figure out how to say the same thing.

I don't think there is a Sport sub category, it is just styling.
Things are constantly changing and so it seems the new thing is not worrying about a luxury look but and aggressive look. If that means making your car look sporty then that's what you have to do.

SO... it is just simply direction in VIP styling... interesting view which makes a lot of sense. And indeed I have been noticing the resurgence of sportiness and agressivenes in VIP styling specially for newer vehicles because the vehicle itself is poised for that.
I have been looking at the IS and either way I see it has the sport escense on it's lines; same goes for the M45 F50's; it just has that sport design in the actual base.

if you can get to 0-60 in less then 7.5 seconds in your full out VIP car, then I'll call it sporty.

gotta set the standards some where right?

I wouldn't necessarily say beating a dead horse. Most conversations have been about why these sporty wheels are on VIP cars or why this sport car is VIP styled.
Although I do agree that times change so of course people will do different things with their cars.

In overall yes this has been discussed about sport cues on VIP cars and so on. But, still there is no category in VIP for it. IMHO.

I personally do not like the trend I see. There is a Lexus out there with allot of carbon fiber and looks like a sport style and I can see the white Fusa and such. Just does not seem to fit. Looks out of place with the VIP stuff in the car. My first though was. Go one way or the other.

I say nay to the mix.

PS: I removed my CF hood you see in my pic. Just cause it did not work with the theme.

I have been battling finding the fine line when a car stops being what. For isnatnce, the car on my sig couild be considered sport styled. But what would be the difference between this car and Elite Auto Style's car (Justin)? The color? We both have the same front bumper... Our wheels will be different but I'm not using terribly sporty looking wheels... And I am using his car and my car as examples just because it is the most ovious example I could find.

EDIT: BTW in this pic, Justin is missing the Garson grill... ;)

I agree with you to a point. Like widebodyQ said earlier, the majority of the community in the States has been focusing on a VIP look from the mid 90's with some modern influences. While I like that look, I know that the style is evolving constantly as it derives new influnces from other styles and from exotic car manufacturers. I'm stuck on stupid in the mid '08 look right before the transition to the painted barrels and sportier wheels. Although I do admit the newer sportier look is very appealing. Keep in mind that things work in cycles and it seems that the new look is a very modern subdued version of the yankee style of yesteryear.:giggity:

so would it be wrong if someone wanted vip styling exterior but a sport cockpit? (aka. full on bucket seat, "race" steering (nardi classic or something along those lines) and a manual transmission)

UFC11: that has been done on a coupe of cars I have seen in mags but the twist is this: The bucket seats are wrapped either in designer material (LV) and in some cases just simply re-done in in leather with the logo of the shop ebroidered (sp) (Robson Brand)

SikNLow: True to what you said, I do believe many people in the US has been focusing on the mid 90's VIP look which is aero with subtle lines, classic VIP looking wheels (dish, mad lip, 5-spoke), and the extra plushy luxury interior.

I think what is more important is to focus on what you really want, build it, then be happy with what you have wether it is a VIP or Sporty Sedan as an end result.

But back on the topic, I would like to see more OG's chime in and see what they really honestly think of this. :D

European cars are getting more sporty and aggressive so naturally the style will shift to that direction.

The style had to evolve to the next level, naturally influence was drawn from the same routes that influenced the style in the past.

If you can't make something more luxurious then the next logical step is to make it look more aggressive externally. Putting vents in hoods and fenders can be done in your driveway.

"VIP tunning for a good part of this decade has been about making older cars look like modern Euro cars." and now that the euros are getting more aggressive VIP is following suite.

Sporty is one way of describing the shift but the word I think that fits it better is exotic. Crazy headlight projector and LED conversions, the application of external LED's, the variation and location of the exhaust outlets, satin paint in a color other then black... all would suggest that the style is evolving to a more exotic and surreal look. I like it and I look forward to seeing what can be done with it.

it is up to you. I think building something you want is more important than buildindg something they like.

They = the world
The world will never like it.

I build what makes me happy regardless of what people think. I believe this is the attitude of many VIP builders most days being that they are using very edgy cues on their cars... =)

My point was that it's a constantly evolving style. In fact, it's gone in one direction, reversed, then gone in that direction again. So who knows what's going to happen. The whole face wheel thing that almost took off kind of dwindled and dish was back in (as a majority). Or the whole fitment game changing, but really it hasn't. It's funny how inconsistent the style can be at times...

Yep you are right: actually, I think it was on the first sanctioned D1 event in Japan, there was a Chaser as an entrant that had more TV's than I don't know what and it was drifting in full VIP garb up to the wheels (Kreiss looking wheels) and if I remember correctly, the Chaser had about 700 HP and had the cage matched to the seats (leather I assume). I think it would be very cool to do such a car.
IMHO people have to be more open to where the style fluctuates (sporty~classic) to accomodate everyone's taste within the style.

Yeah but there is allot of lack of taste with peoples styles as well. I mean come on. I understand the principal of being open minded. I am def. open minded. However some things just don't look right or don't mix well etc. etc. At times it takes time to figure it all out.

There is this student at school that is plainly eccentric. She sings old 40's movie songs to herself and does these unattractive dance moves down the hallway. She does not care at all and will just burst out with it all in front of everyone. It's terribly annoying and you want to tell her to cut the crap. But everyone pretty much looks at each other, smirks and goes about there business. ON TOP OF THAT :) She wears rainbow colored stockings and multicolored dresses. Riders her bike to and from school!

Open minded does not make it better :) Does not help her get a psychiatrist :) Hehe god forbid. Now this does not mean she is not being herself or lacks originality. Does not mean I will ever get used to her behavior or that what she wears makes any sense.

I think the evolution of VIP, VIPStyle can branch off in many ways. However some will lack allot of respect form me personally for reasons I don't know. One of the reasons I brought up the topic. So I could explore and research the style more and find out what works for me within reason. Since there is no real definition of an engine bay that is "VIPStyle" than there are allot of avenues one can take I think. If the person has taste, $$ and the time the project will come out just fine. But if not however open minded one is it will prob. look terrible or overdone.

Just my thoughts about this before coffee in the morning :)

At the first D1 here in vegas their was mark 2 black bn-sports kit 19's nice offset with full interior and tv's ect. i think we might be talkin about the same dude i forgot who was the driver .. but that was his daily and a full comp car.
Yeah but there is allot of lack of taste with peoples styles as well. I mean come on. I understand the principal of being open minded. I am def. open minded. However some things just don't look right or don't mix well etc. etc. At times it takes time to figure it all out.

I know some will not agree......but for some of the traditional VIP manufacturers are looking to other platforms and types of mods as a matter of survival. The market in Japan for traditional VIP is shrinking....since it's been around for so long. Also, the Japanese tend to like to emulate what we are doing here in the US, and vice versa. So, it's an ever evovling circle of modifications.

Infini: Open mindness doesn't mean you can do some excentric stuff and call it VIP. It still has to flow with the style accordingly. True to that. But sometimes it is up to the individual to judge if it is considered VIP or not. For example, I do not consider my car vip styled, i consider it sport styled with vip cues. Some people could think that my car is a VIP styled car with sport cues. individual opinion. Also there is the mindset as well: when I think of building a VIP car I am not thinking interior, system, 850HP and rollcage. I disagree with someone that haves a mindset like that unless they have a very good plan on how are they going to make everythiong flow accordingly... which is kind of hard imho and very unsightly on a car that is supposed to be a Luxury...

I think one of the biggest challenges depends on the plattform itself too. 1st Gen Aristos, Chasers, IS300+ are designed with sportiness in mind. Not that you could not make a very solid classic VIP'd cue build but there is some chalenge to it. Pick the wrong color and it looks sporty. Add aero a bit too agressive and the look tends to look sportier. Wrong set of wheels throws the entire look to a different direction. So the challenge is there too.

I like the opinions so far, keep em coming!

I don't entirely agree with you, but I do on one point. Traditional vip was an era of style..not the style. It's funny you mention the evolution, but then say something like that? They do take cues from us..but the problem is..they aren't taking cues from our style of vip...they are taking it straight from DUB. :pat:

i don't know if it's people trying to make a new genre within the community as much as people showing their roots. i would assume these guys were previous drifters and still enjoy some of styling and bring it with them to their vip rides......
