How bad is Stopleak for your radiator?

I have a small rad leak and replacement is a grip, anyone have any exp in this product? My concern is that the stuff will need to run through the system...:shrug:

put the stop leak in...its cheap and it may work...and if it doesnt work than..you might have to soend money....man all types of things are goin on with your car....gl homie

that stuff can mess up your water pump tho

dont do it. gotta do a powerflush after to get all that shit out when u eventually do get a new radiator(which you will sometime) a powerflush and fill is usually around 240 at the dealer for most luxury cars. add that onto the price of the radiator and install and youll have a big bill waiting for you in the future. and also like volkgt7 said, it can damage your waterpump but didnt damage mine the one time i used it years ago. 
i would only put stopleak in an emergency or if i were just about to sell a junker to a douchebag :shrug:

I wouldn't do it...just source a used radiator but I think there should be some aftermarket radiators for a good price.

Yeah dont do it Aug its a temp fix and when you do replace the radiator all that crap is still in your engine

My buddy put some of that stuff in his car. It gummed up his water temp sensor and water pump. He overheated it without even know since neither the sensor or pump worked. Motor is done now. I guess for an emergency its ok.

stuff is bad .. it just doent go into your radiator .. it goes everywhere in your cooling system ... block, water pump, thermostat, heater core, hoses etc .. just get a new radiator and do it your self ... its not that hard, just bleed the cooling system when your done

Hey Aug, try this place out they are in San Marcos. I think you can get a radiator for a good price there.

I guess dont do it....you learn something everyday...i used that stuff on my truck and i didnt have any propblems after i changed my radiator ...but that was a mopar and they a RAM TUFF!!!!
good luck with that homie...but atleast you know how to remove the radiator...

hahaha...btw my car almost overheated yesterday and i was pissed...think i was low on coolant, so i put more in and it took a few mins for the thermostat to open w/ new fluid..i was livid..effin dealership didnt tell me i was low esp after they diagnosed a small leak..fuckers!

just buy a whole new one best bet ..

Wait, is the leak from one of the fins or from the end tanks? Either way, you can take the radiator to a radiator repair shop and theyll fix it for cheaper than a new radiator. A customer of mine had a small puncture in one of the fins, only costed about $30 for the radiator shop to weld up the hole and pressure test the radiator :biggthumpup:

BTW, dont ever fucking use that Stop Leak bullshit. I;ve had soo many cars come into my shop with that crap and it gunks up EVERYTHING. There has been a few times where it was soo bad I had to flush the entire system about 3 times and it still didnt get all that shit out.

i heard a new radiator is like just over $100, i'll prob go that route, but no still not fixed. It's a real slow leak...

A+!, had a customer just come in with one of his minibrutes. Overheating problem, he thought he had a leak somewhere so he put pepper in. 

Pepper was everywhere, messed the water pump up and the thermostat. 
And needed lots of flushing! :pat:

im having same problem aslo .small leak in my radiator.does anyone know if the radiators on ebay with lifetime warrenty are any good?

im about to buy one.no way im puttin pepper in my car or stopleak.i used that on my rx7 years ago and ruined the waterpump.and i just put a new watwer pump in my q45 when it hit 60k...

any answers?

koyorad shouldnt be more than 150 bucks and about 45 mins to a hour of your time....

btw, koyorad OEM replacement is siick ive... they work good and have no issues

from experience on working @ a shop.... please dont use STOP leak, worst thing u can put in your car and worse scenrio.. your engine can over heat still and cause other damages..

dont listen to people unless they have used it first hand..

ive ran stopleak on my gs300 and it fixed my slight heatercore
leak and my radiator.. IT DID CLOG my overflow hose which after i cleaned
out worked just fine.. no more heater core leak and this was 2 years ago.

can u please give us examples of how it caused the car to over heat? was it clogged overflow hose like me?

and what other damages are u talking about? do u understand how stopleaks works?

In my old Cressida (7MGE) the previous threw in stop leak because the car was overheating. Eventually I blew the headgasket on it (after a week of ownership lol) and when we pulled the head off you could see all the crud that jammed itself in the water galleries in the block. We cleaned it all up and put it all back together with new seals and thermostat (didn't shave the block or check the head for straightness, even used the original TTY head bolts lol) and the car is still running like a champ (sold it off to a mate).

Do not use stop leak. If you have used stop leak already I'd highly highly suggest to do a cooling system flush immediately and, if an emergency, get your hands on some of that plaster type bond that is applied externally to the crack and patch it up until you can get a radiator assembly.
