Turntablism.....

Anyone here is a Turntablists?im thinking about getting into it and buying a pair of turntables and a mixer from a friend.i've always wanted to learn how to scratch since i was a little kid.i remember back in the early 1990's,someone in my house played the song "sending all my love" by "Lenear" on the turntable.and as curious as i was,i wanted to immitate of what i see when watching "Yo MTV Raps!".as soon as i put my hands on the record,i got scolded by my parents!they were yelling at me saying im gonna break the needle!anyways i figured id tell a little story of my "destiny".but anyone got any tips for an beginner?and is it worth getting into?im not planning to get popular of this,i just wanted something else to do with my free time.

gettin into spinning is fun, takes work and practice as most things you do in life. when you get it down you appreciate it alot. I say its worth it if you have the time to practice and having it as a hobby is fun.

do it! I've been DJ'ing for 5+ years. You can make some extra money on the side too if you find the right venues. Then maybe as a future mod you can incorporate your tables in the trunk ;)

HAHA!! i remember doing the same thing to our family's BELT DRIVEN turntable back when i was 13. belt came loose after a while and never played records again lol. i actually recorded some of my "scratching" and at the time i thought it came out good. as of recently i've only dj'ed messing around, i did a party for some friends. had a numark blue dog mixer with one turntable and a cd player.

I used to do the same thing as a kid and my mom would get pissed. Then I did actually break the needle and that was pretty much the end. Now I have table for about 3+ years and they are sitting in my storage area collecting dust as have no room to hook them up.

i've been scratching for a couple of years and it's not as easy as it seems
it's a lot work but if you actually enjoy it then it's not work at all
takes a lot discipline cause it does get discouraging

go on youtube and watch some of DJ Qberts videos...he has some tutorial videos on there so you can go check it out

I've been skratching since about 97. At minimum I would suggest Numark TT500 turntables paired up with Shure needles (either M447 or M44G). For mixers, my suggestion would be a Vestax PMC 05 Pro or PMC 06 Pro. The turntables and mixers can be found used for about $150 each. Craigslist FTW!

its a dying art..alot have moved onto CD's

its pretty fun learning tho, gluck

its like building a VIP car but a lot more  time plus you have to have a lot of dedication ..
 
trust me i did it back in the day - jumped to CD's but old school PPL never fails when it comes to true scratch

there's always serato scratch live. it comes with two vinyl platters resembling LP's that you can use but it pulls from your MP3 library. my cousin uses it it's pretty dope.

yo thanks for all the input!i've decided to give it a shot!i got my tables and mixer 2 days ago.they are used but they look perfect!i got 2 Technics 1210 MK2 with Shure m447 needles and a Rane TTM56 mixer.only today i had time to try it out,and yeah,its alot of work!now i gotta train my fat hands to move quicker.LOL!

nice setup it's pretty much like mine.  learn how to mix good first so keeping rhythm is just natural.  being able to scratch is cool but if you can't scratch on beat it's useless.  most djs now are on serato which is cool if your a club dj cause you don't really have to buy the shit you don't personally like but you have to play.  but if your gonna be a straight turntablist then stick to just vinyl.
