installed tension rods - front end is unbearably stiff

i put in s14 pillowball tension rods in the y33 to correct front end caster issues that i've been having, and that shit is kidney-pulverizingly, teeth-chatteringly stiff (maybe not stiff, but the vibrations at 60+mph are crazyyy) now on the freeway. is there an alternative (you know, other than taking that shit off and living with the messed up caster)? is there another way to adjust caster on the front end? is there a way to soften everything up (haven't played with damper stiffness yet or anything else)?

Are you sure they are equaled out alignment wise?  I bet they aren't..and I also bet that's why you have vibrations.  When you change one portion of suspension geometry, it changes throughout the whole range.  So that may have thrown your toe out of whack from side to side.

yeah, i would recheck everything, if not i have some Energy suspension/suspension technique bushings TC rod bushings from my old s14 that were never used that i could sell you cheaply.

full alignment, and then poly bushings as mentioned.

its gonna feel very stiff no matter what... thats how those heim joints work. there is no type of cushion or rubber to dampen the road, its all metal to metal (not actually metal, just what ever those rods are made of). i replaced my stock tension rods for some adjustable drift spec S14 tension rods (had to modify them a little bit to fit my G50) and now i can feel everything from the road, thru the tires, thru the suspension to my lower back... 
 
because i work at a service station, i can dial in my caster to whatever the hell i want and back again.... if your car is lowered and you try to get the caster in factory specs, your front tires are gonna be set back like 2" (set back as in not centered in the wheel openning more towards the front doors). i did it to my G50, and it looked retarded. so i eye balled the tire so its centered in the wheel openning, looked at what the caster reading was, and dialed it in to the other side... my front caster is at about 7.9* or something like that... as long as the caster is even from left to right you will be fine. it does not have to be in factory specs... 
 
id imagine your vibration problem has nothing to do with the tension rods... because, well it triangulate the lower arm back to the body, and there should be no looseness... maybe try getting your tires rebalanced...or check your tierods for looseness....

HmMm i have S13 SPL Pro Front Tension Rods and SPL Pro Front Tie Rods and even have all the S13 stuff done to the Rear and it is stiff but dont notice it once I pass about 40mph when I am actually on the highway doing around 60 - 70 the car hugs the road but doesnt vibrate much and I am running thin and kind of crappy tires that usually are loud must be a unbalanced wheel or something loose like Mista808 said. Had 1 wheel in the front loose 2 weights from the balancing and had a vibration but since then car is fine.

apparently toe, caster and camber are more or less spot on all the way around. i'll check some of the other things -- tie rods, etc.

the problem is just this teeth chattering shaking that goes through the car. the increased road feel is fine. i'll inspect tie rods next.

Where are you located? Cause I notice when you drive on certain roads it might look smooth but its actually really grooved you feel it also are you running on Coilovers and Stretched tires? All that adds to the vibration cause from factory to what I feel now its probally the same feeling your talking about but once I hit the highway I dont really feel it as much just when you are going around 10 - 40 mph
