Am I crazy to want to go to coilovers? I have air-sus now

I have a Celsior and have factory air suspension. There is nothing wrong with it, but I feel it is limiting how low I can drive around. It is too soft to ride low, and it is common to bottom-out or scrape when going through dips and the like in the road.

If I changed to coil-overs, I'll have basically a permanent ride height. By sacrificing my air-suspension, I can ride low(er) as coil-overs will have the correct spring rates, damping etc. 
But in saying that, I do lose on the fly adjustability of air-suspension.

Talk me in or out of going to coilovers!

Factory air was the main reason i went against all forms of air suspension for so long. Factory air is unreliable, overly soft and really slow. And it can burst on these old cars.
 
I still prefer coilovers, but i understand that these days aftermarket air suspension can be set up almost as stiff as good coilovers. I would go with some coilovers, and look into aerosport bags or cups to go over the coils later.

Also I forgot to mention aftermarket air as well. I have built a Toyota Surf with air-suspension before so I have knowledge and experience with aftermarket air too, but still......air really is only for the adjustability right.

I can ride an inch of the ground, and still drive it like i stole it. I drove my cedric literally an inch of the ground, and was able to drift around diakoku futo upa nd down ramps multiple times with no problem.
 
Its more in the setup of the system you purchase than anything.

^^^ what air suspension were you using? What kinda height were you getting at full lock up?

my ksport air can get pretty low and still maintain a solid ride.

universal air on coilovers.

3 nad a half inches ish on full up from the ground

get a air cup set up... you still have a coilover and a air set up :) i got one on my GS its great!!

cups only work if you arent very low to begin with.
IE wimp

cups would be nice to have..i dont care bout parking lower..id get the cups so i can get up my damn driveway easier haha

get coilovers, dont be weak though go nice and hard on the spring rates cause once you put them in you will find yourself going lower ..and lower... and lower... and you need it hard haha

Although I've never experienced a car with coilovers and bags, I'd say that's why you could do that, as opposed to a car with just airbags (which I've experienced)?

I think I'm leaning more and more to coilovers. What are you running? Hard to find anything locally :sad:

i'm running insurance group but theyre pretty soft, i would recommend JIC

All depends what you are trying to make your ride into...
 
For Showcar - definitely bags! Cuz its crazy to see the car roll-in 2" high, and within matter of secs. the tires go down so low, the frame is kissn the ground.     
 
For Street car - coilovers; plus less likely to breakdown
