745i v's S600...

Right, I'm wanting to buy either one of these cars in black to create the (sort of) VIP look.

Mods are going to include: lowered, nice big wheels and tinted windows. That's it pretty much, oh and a ridiculous sound system! :D

What are the differences in these cars? For some reason I have a feeling that the BMW will give me less trouble and be more reliable? Don't know why, just a feeling I get!

Also, seem to think it will be easier/cheaper to slam the 7 series than the Merc because of the complicated suspention the Merc has?

Would appreciate any thoughts/advice on these cars! :)

i would take which ever car will be more reliable, unfortunatly i havnt done any research on either car, as they are wayyy out of my price range, so i wouldnt be able to comment. However, i have seen a VIPed out 760li in my town and i must say, it was the nicest car ive ever seen in my entire life.

Cheers guys!

Well I'm not 100%, what ever comes up at a decent price/spec when I have the cash in my hand!

It will be the 2002-2004 745i and I might either go for the older (2001/2002) S600 or maybe a newer (2003/2004) S500!

Am I right in thinking that with an S600 you can jsut take out the airbags pump fuse and it will sit on its arse whilst still driving OK?!

be aware of a lot of issues with earlier build w220's, but anecdotal evidence suggests early 7-series were just as bad. take your pick. i would go 04+ s500.

Nope. The S600 uses ABC, not Airmatic. ABC is a hydropneumatic suspension that runs off of the power steering pump. When the pump fails, which it does quite often, you essentially have NO suspension.

Go for a 04+ S500. Fewer headaches and more reliable. Uses Airmatic, which can use adjustable links to dump it (as can ABC). The 7G is a nice transmission mated to the M113 motor.

i think out of the above your best bet would be an 03/04 s500 for reliability.

This is very interesting!

So an 04 S500 can be dumped with a controller of sorts? What sort of cost is this mate? So in essence it comes bagged from factory?!

I'm less fussed about the engine, I'll still be able to get a meaty sound from the V8!

Well, both can be lowered two ways:

1. Lowering Module (expensive but quickly adjustable)
2. Links (cheap but not adjustable)

You still can raise the car slightly with links (via the Airmatic button), but not in the same way you can with a module. The lowest possible drop is utilizing both. You can essentially lower the car to the point of no suspension, but you cannot drive at that height.

Thanks mate! What sort of cost are the modules v's the links? Just want the arches sat on the rims, nothing insane as the UK roads are a pain in the arse with speed-bumps!

So with a module, I could be riding nice and low, see a speedbump and quickly raise her up to get over it? And then dumper her completely on her arse when parked?

What sort of things would I need to buy (if anything) if I wanted a little neg. camber on the rears?

Ah right, well basically I just want to lower it without spending thousands! I don't care if it's adjustable really, just would be nice!

Whats tinting the windows like on these? Aren't they double paned glass?

Also, exhaust systems, I assume custom is the way to go? I'm gonna want AMG tailpipes, does anywhere sell these?

Thanks again guys!

it doesnt matter if its got double pane glass, it still can be tinted, it will give nice mirror finish!
and pipes i guess merc dealership would be the best bet, or maybe ebay

Cheers bud. Not after genuine pipes! LOL, they'll be upwards of a grand just for the tips I'd assume.

Pretty easy to copy so must be plenty about?

Hmm, so how would you recommend I lowered it if I just wanted it fixed? And what sort of cost would we be looking at?

Thanks again mate!

The controller new...is about 1800 if I remember correctly from when I bought mine. I haven't had any problems with the ABC suspension, in fact I'm looking to get into a W220 s65 cause I love these cars so much!!

Here is the website for the links. www.adjustableairride.com Works great for me! If you are going to get a W220, 04+ would be the safest choice plus you get the facelift (new headlights, hood, grill, side moldings, tail lights, clear mirror lights, dvd head unit etc).

So you literally put those links on and it dropped to that height? Is the ride much worse? Not that I care! lol.

Have you got much/any neg camber on your rears?

What's the crack with this camber then? I want mine to sit like this one:

Althought I could go a tad higher for clearence! Want the tyres mostly hidden with some negative camber at the rear!

I was talking about the S500 2003 model mate.

Can't really afford an '04+ S600 sadly!

I want to be able to afford the car and be able to do what I want with it, don't wanna be stuck in a situation where I buy the car for all my money then it has to be left standard!

What are those ELM things you're speaking of WestCoast? Where from and what do they do? Allow for more camber?

The ELM is Electronic Lowering Module such as Renntech, or brabus for example. It allows you to lower the car and raise it up to stock height with a simple push of a button or turn of a knob. They do not allow for more camber, but with the addition of the adjustible links it allows you to drop as low as my buddies car or the black 600 in the video.
