Paying homage
(taken from the libertyvip message forum and modified)
This thread is to pay homage to those who have inspired me and those cars that I learned from. I do have more personal favorites and even some that I like better then these cars that I listed. I choose the cars that I did because of the impact they had on me in one way or another.
Everyone, feel free to add some pics of some cars if you have any.
I am going to start this.

^Step lip front, reverse lip rear.
This right here was my favorite Y33. If you look at it, you will say "It looks sick but what is so special about it? It looks stock with wheels?" Thats the whole point. The attention to detail is insane in order to get his car to look the way it does, to fit those wheels while remaining so low. It looks as is he didn't even try. Then you put it side by side with another vip Y33 and you will soon see how crazy it is. Look how high the quarter panel fender arc is cut. He rocks those 20's so beautifully. This car also helped start my love afair with Vlene. I am at the point where I will say anything that Vlene makes is the king of the crop, top of the line (Brabus has the same effect on me).
I remember back in the day, this car was posted on a trailer. He had Fabulous Expand wheels and previously, I had hated those wheels. The way he used them made me understand that the actual wheel is not as important as how you rock it. It also inspired me to get my car lower and redo my fenders. He is on coilovers BTW and so are most of these cars.

This was one of the few hooked up F50s in Japan around 06-07. The resale value was much higher on these cars over there so no one really did body work to them at that point. I would look at pics of my car side by side next to his to see exactly what he did to get his to look like that. He was modifying at such a rapid pace. It seemed like he had a slightly new look every 2 months.
Also, around that time VSC was very brutal. If they hadn't seen something done, it was forbidden to try. I had tinted tails on my car and everyone gave me a hard time about it saying it is not vip. Then this car did it the same way I had mine. It made me realize, you can't make a "VIP rule book." I was glad that I could say I beat him in doing something. It was also sadening because I admired his car and understood that he rocked them better then I did. It tought me that every mod has a chain reaction. You need to do a few things at the same time in order to pull certain mods together better. Excecution is key.
When I first payed attention to this car, I knew I was looking at something very powerful. It had on Lowenhart LS-R wheels (the split tri-spoke wheels but would later change the wheels to Leon Hardiritt Vertu's), Benz SLR fender vents and a blood red interior with carbon fiber panels. Lots of "love it or hate it" going on in this car from inside out. This was also when Fender vents and none of the above mentioned were popular. I didn't like the car at first but I repected it. I found myself going back to look at pictures of it very often because of how different it really was. I started to fall in love with the car and its enormous amount of detail. You can call him Bret "the Hitman" Hart -Excellence of excecution. Every single detail from small to large, is all tied in together. As crazy as the car looks, nothing on it looks out of place.
It was depressing knowing that I would never ever be able to build something so perfect but I was just happy to be able to just see new pictures of it. To me, it was sort of like watching Michael Jordan playing basketball in the 80s-He could score 60 points on you in any given night no matter what team he was playing or who was garding him. The worst part is he will do it with so much flare and skill that you would get embaressed if you were to even try to play D. The car had so much flavor, it was able to stand out amounst all the big boys with ease despite not having to use a loud colorful exterior. I would hate to be the guy that has to park next to him. His car was able to help start new trends and shift VIP. All red interior, sliced style fender vents, 6 exhaust tips, w221 hood vents, murdered out exterior, "King of . . ." trunk are just a few that I can think of that he helped make popular. Studying this car so hard and following it for a while gave me a better understanding of what vip truely is - FREEDOM. That is also one of the reasons I choose to bring the name Liberty VIP to life as a car club. (Liberty = freedom). This is still my favorite VIP car til this day.

I had to start a new post after the One Star "King of Majesta's" car out of respect.

(thats where he got the idea from. Sclass w221 Carlsson Aigner)

^same car but older pics. The car was originally black and on the cover of VIP Car magazine when it was black. Look at the insane trunk set up.
This car was the first car ever to make me get out of my seat and leave the computer for 10 minutes. The effect to me was similiar to making someone fall from a cross over in streetball. Thats it, time to go home with the ball. Game over.
Just like the One Star car, this Black Pearl car started a wave of new creativity and ideas. Where do I start? Just look at the headlights. He has two sets of LS600HL LED projectors in each one. He had this done when the car was only months old. That means he had to have gotten them straight from the dealer. Baller would be an under statement. On top of that, he must of redid the headlamp housings like 3 times and flooded them with custom LED's in the process. He got a set of LS600hL headlight projectors for his fogs too because his LS600hL fogs were not baller enough. He set the bar as far as retrofits are concerned. The paint is what my friend blkonblk98 really hates about it but I personally love it. It is a Carlsson Aigner style paint job with authentic Mercedes ceramic scratch resistant clear coat ($$$). The real deal Carlsson Aigner Sclass RK65 sells for $500,000-$600,000. Why not take the trademark of something so baller and put it on a baller build? I personally dont like the rims on this car but the excecution and pure ballerness is to be admired. He is the Current king of new VIP, IMO.

I will be honest, the second gen GS is one of my least favorite VIP cars. No offense to anyone with a GS, I don't hate the car, I just prefer Infiniti styling over Lexus models in the 90's. There are just some things that bother me about the car. With that being said, having a GS on my list is a HUGE compliment to the owner of this car. He now has a different kit and black lipless wheels. The look in this pic is my favorite stage this car has ever been in.
The excecution is flawless. The sculpted hood, SL vents, clean body work and red paint make this one of my favorites. He kept it super clean.

The UCF30 might be my favorite VIP platform so I had to throw another one on the list. This one right here would be very similiar to how I would have styled mine if I would of choose the LS over the Q. It flows so perfectly. I am not going to lie, I never liked mesh wheels but when I found out the BBS LM-R's almost cost double the price of LM's, I was hooked on the ballerness of those wheels.

I had to show the G50 some love. After all, it is one of my favorite platforms. This car is the Garage Freedom G50. I over looked it for a while until it made the cover of VIP car last year. Since then, that is the only issue of VIP car that I still have. I could not get rid of that issue (also because the black Y33 I mentioned earlier is featured in that issue). The radius work is so clean. Again, he rocks the 20" wheels like he suppost to by keeping the car low. What I really found strange at the time is that he did all that body work but choose to run huge spacers with those wheels. Lots of those guys think big lips are not as clean as the smaller lip look. My guess is because it takes the focus away from the design and details that are on the face of the wheel. I seriously think the same wheels in lower offsets would not look as good as these do on this car. Again, flawless excecution

When i saw that car at the Sessions Platinum event last year i was blown away by the detail in it. I was expecting that the retrofit would look dodgy up close but it literally looked OEM. Everything on the car is as good in real life as it is in the pics.
Only slightly minus point was that after K-break king of sedan festival, when everyone was leaving, his was one of the only ones that was riding with the airsus raised (i'll see if i can find pics - was about 1-2 finger gaps between tyre/fender). Possibly cos he was one of the only ones with airsus, but it sure stood out. Even his girlfriend Yumi (white UCF20 Celsior, pink lipped wheels/pink tint) was riding slammed behind him.
Anyway Agi, great writeup. I think its good to acknowlege some of the cars that have motivated/inspired you, and its important that people recognise some of the thought process behind your build.
If you dont have a clear vision of what it is you are trying to achieve, the results will be half-baked. If you think that just putting wheels/airsus/kit on your car is all it takes to achieve 'vipstyle' then you wrong... you are just building 'cookie-cutter-vip'. Every mod has a reason, a purpose if you will. I think thats what is different between the Japanese scene and the US scene at the moment... Not enough people are thinking like this!
I could put up a list of cars that inspired me too.. Though the main one is of course the "King of Cima", Obayashi-san's Y32 =)

My pics of that amazing car
And this is the pic i took as he was leaving K-break last year. Still probably lower than most here would roll, but when he is in a lineup of cars all driving completely slammed, it looked... out of place..

Please do if you get a chance. I thought the owner of Garage Magical was the "King of Cima" He had it on his hood and on his wheel it wrote "absolute master of . . . " (I couldnt read the rest since the wheel was sideways in the pic.)
How does that work anyway? I See Obayashi-san with King of Majesta on his 149 as well.

Excellent thread! I think you bring up a lot of great points in showing the cars you did. Alot of these are so subtle that most who dont know the platform indepth would miss it. The details are that important. I really think it is important also the comment about lip size and spacers. Big lips maybe fun, but it really can take more away from the car if not executed right. Sometimes small lips are legit.

That Last Y33 actually played a role too. I never noticed that model Y33 had a body line on the trunk. It made me want to do a after MC F50 LED tail conversion without the inners and with a custom body line.

^body line on trunk which no one notices
Some cars from recent that really inspire me are

I know your all thinking, "I was with you those first few picks but now you lost me."
Well those were the cars that inspired me comming up but times have changed as so has the style. That car above has so much character. It is one of my favorite cars that came out within the last 12 months. The front bumper alone has influences from 4 different bumpers but yet it has all come together to flow with the rest of the car.
If I didnt loose you with that car, I am sure to do so with this
You're all prob like "Damn thats ugly." All I have to say is that it is much harder to do then it looks. Even if I was capable of thinking of something like that, I dont think I would do it but the amount of skill that it takes to pull something like that off is insane! One slight wrong move or an added vent could of turned this car into an eye sore.
The owner of this car/shop that did the work, have to be artists. Despite how crazy the car is, it all flows together. I have to give respect where it is due so I will hip my hat off to that owner and shop.

One of my favs...and I'm pretty sure Dom's too. I just wish his interior didn't clash so hard! I love the "stock" appearance as well and for riding as low as possible with impeccable fitment. So many of the mods done will go unnoticed by the general public and even some of the average enthusiasts.
Like with my Jag, I love hearing the words "there's something about it that makes it different and I just can't put my finger on it. I still get people asking me what type of car it is..I can't wait till i have it fully rebadged..it's really going to throw people off then. Anyhow..on with the bow-worthy:
Another notable Y32:
I seriously love these cars and have been jealous of Dom for owning one. I guess I have the next best thing...a car that these were designed after..haha.

This car is
THE reason I painted my car red. i loved it when I first saw it and definitely an inspiration in my build. As far as the spacer goes, I think you might be wrong. My guess was that LH did not make anything aggressive enough for this car. I had a set of waffes on my LS before the modulars that I absolutely loved. I really really wanted to order a new set of waffes because the ones I had were 19/20 combo and not aggressive at all. Sadly LH did not make them as aggressive as I wanted and I don't want to deal with spacers so i had to opt for another set:sad:. I have not read the article, I'd like to get my hands on that issue though, so I don't know if it states the reason he ran such big spacers knowing he would be doing all that body work. Nice thread btw.

This was one of my first inspirations to get a 929, because when i started to research the cars, i kept ending up in Australia instead of Japan, and this sentia kept popping up, one of the first complete sentias i saw.

And than i came across this beauty, which still is a mystery, because ive only seen this picture of it.

and these guys here just keep blowing me away, and i just try to follow what they do, and i have noticed with some of the best built sentias that none have stock fenders, and ive noticed that the sentias body lines are made for it..

i have it if you wanna take a look at it
my car is unfinished and will prolly stay that way, i dont have the drive to actually care enough to dig myself into a hole for a car the way i would have a few years ago. there are a few cars that get me ordering parts and researching though.
2 of them are really easy for me to point out. racinstylez ls and mr executiv's gs
these are 2 of the top VIP cars in the US and i see them in person on a semi regular basis. everytime i see them its like looking in a magazine. they def push the envelope this side of the world. hopefully they push more ppl to come hard with some great cars.
i have to agree with agim, the red 2gs has win written all over it. all the small details are there. the interior is what makes that car for me, along with the perfect fitment of course.
these cars also tell me that sleek and elegant can also be aggressive and menacing and i really like that in a car.
for whatever reason i dont have pics of johns car. but that is THE reason i fell in love with the 2GS as a VIP car. his car has always been an inspiration for me, hopefully now that he is working on it it will keep me moving fwd.
less is more and gato proves it. flawless execution in everything he has done. his style will never fade. he might not be pushing the envelope for a new style, but with his car looking like it does, he doesnt have to.
i should be throwing on some new parts soon and i might just post pics, if i do im sure most of yall will see how these cars influence me.

The Ordens he has are far from the most aggressive you can get. Thats about 3-3.5" lip when you can get a 5". He may have got a good deal on them used but I think he got them in that size because the bottom of the spokes lines up perfectly with the step of the lip. I think thats the best look for Leons.
